    VR headset I used to review this game: HMD Odyssey+ Do you need a free game because VR games are too expensive. This is the game to download first.     Do you need a free game because VR games are too expensive. This is the game to download first. The mode 'Longbow' is literally addicting, no idea how Valve didn't turn this mode into a fully built/developed game yet. It could have custom maps created have the community via the Workshop, so much potential. But at the very least, this version does feature an in-game leaderboard system so you can compete with other VR players.    … Expand

    Well, it's about time Valve released a game. It's been way too long since their last effort, Portal 2. And after Kelly Bailey, Ted Backman, and the main writer behind the Half-Life franchise have all departed Valve, they decide to finally release a new game: The Lab. A short VR game. I mean sure, this game is just as polished and refined as some of Valve's other titles, but the contentWell, it's about time Valve released a game. It's been way too long since their last effort, Portal 2. And after Kelly Bailey, Ted Backman, and the main writer behind the Half-Life franchise have all departed Valve, they decide to finally release a new game: The Lab. A short VR game. I mean sure, this game is just as polished and refined as some of Valve's other titles, but the content that we get here feels more like a cheap tech demo rather than a fully fleshed out new project.     This should be one of the first things anyone tries on a Vive. It's polished, free, inventive, and bright.

    And it's made by Valve.

    It's like Wii Sports when the Wii came out: a sampler of what we should be able to expect from the future of VR. Only better in every conceivable way. My only complaint is that there is not more of it.

    As a door opener into the world of Vive-VR Valves tech demo The Lab is the perfect start. But when it boils down to games and mechanics there is not enough substance. [Tested with Vive]
