    It's not a 10 but it's not a 4. I can't remember the last time a game kept me for more than 2 hours interested. It has it's moments of fast pace and slow pace, but it makes up for an interesting story and places to explore. It has a decent amount of hours, compared to most games, a big map with great design. Given the fact that this was a kick starter project and, i suppose that a smallIt's not a 10 but it's not a 4. I can't remember the last time a game kept me for more than 2 hours interested. Given the fact that this was a kick starter project and, i suppose that a small team developed this game, it is fair to say that it was done with passion and a love for horror games. I really hope they do more in the future. So, if you love SOMA, Cthulhu, Amnesia, you should definitely try this one.… Expand

    What an absolute surprise this horror game turned out to be. As a horror game fanatic, I can tell you for certain that you'll find no better game that perfectly blends an amazing story with scary moments that will make you scream. I jumped out of my chair so many times I couldn't keep count. The jump scares are perfectly executed when you least expect them so I appreciate that a lot.

I jumped out of my chair so many times I couldn't keep count. The jump scares are perfectly executed when you least expect them so I appreciate that a lot.

    So here are my thought overall:

    -Amazing story. Well thought out. Its no easy feat to blend two different character arches together and make them both work...let alone in a horror game. The only time I've seen this successfully done in my opinion was Resident Evil. I have to give special props to this indie studio for pulling off such a complex game that doesn't make me lose interest.

    -It's SCARY. Whoa... I know right!? The moments of horror you experience are so thought out and well executed. Like I said before... the jump scares are perfectly timed and happen when you least expect them. Just when you think that's all this game has to offer you...it throws in chase scenes and moments of dread and utter creepy ghosts that will just sit there and you have NO IDEA if they will do something. I can't say enough about it without spoiling too much.

    -The riddles were so much fun. They range from easy all the way to "WHAT DO I DO!?!?" which I love because I like being challenged. You will often find yourself going through your documents/files to search for clues and some of them come from the game surroundings in a particular room ect.

    -The graphics were impressive with very little hiccups. I loved the attention to detail in the woods where your home is. I was walking around looking at the trees, water, and the house admiring the detail. One of my only negatives was certain character models looked cheesy or dead faced but I'm just getting nit picky. Overall: impressive graphics from an indie studio that almost comes off like a AA title instead of a indie title.

    -Music and atmosphere were stellar. This is one of the most KEY elements to a game you have to achieve and it exceeded my expectations. When walking around in the forest or just talking with your wife setting up your new home it was pleasant and when horror elements come into play it creeps you out and makes you cringe that something might pop out. Also... a special mention that this game does right in terms of music is how the game lets you know when something is about to happen or if you got past something that was chasing you and you can calm down your heart rate. It's something small that I personally like in a game so I thought it was worth mentioning.

    -Game mechanics were easy and this is one of those games where you can pretty much interact with anything you want. You can choose to read/collect/discard and the in game tutorials were great. The only trouble I had was the switching between the lantern or lighting a match. Sometimes I had to switch to the lantern to put out a match I accidentally lit so that could be fixed. But thats small potatoes...

    Overall I loved this game. Huge standout that deserves some recognition in an already competitive horror genre of games that are available. Pick this one up and turn the lights off and have fun!    … Expand

    This game is very scary. But scenario sometimes forgettable and sometimes bored. I bored between 7-10 chapters a lot. But generally puzzles are very good and the game is very scary. I think it is a successful game.

    I just finished The Beast Within, took about 10 hours to complete. The game was decent however there are some things that could have been done better.

    So I'll start with the positives: -Some areas of the game the dev's nailed the ambience and graphics, and it was legit creepy. -There are some puzzles in the game that were a good difficulty and fun to solve. -Good voice acting. The    I just finished The Beast Within, took about 10 hours to complete. The game was decent however there are some things that could have been done better.

    So I'll start with the positives:
    -Some areas of the game the dev's nailed the ambience and graphics, and it was legit creepy.
    -There are some puzzles in the game that were a good difficulty and fun to solve.
    -Good voice acting.

    The Negatives:
    -I found about 4-5 bugs in the game; chairs sunk in and stuck in the floor, objects missing and particularly essential objects missing. This was frustrating and really takes you out of the immersion particularly the horror side of it, this should have been patched already.
    -Character models looked hilarious sometimes (particularly Emma) and it was hard to take it seriously.
    - Too many sequences of running or playing hide and seek and if you screw up you are instantly killed, I found these parts more tedious then scary.
    -Some areas in the game didn't look very good graphically, almost like they didn't put as much effort into them.
    -Not enough Puzzles or puzzle diversity.
    -The ending was fairly predictable, I was guessing it pretty early on.

    Overall decent game and worth checking out if you are a fan of the genre.    … Expand

They're also logical too, and make sense given the circumstances; there's nothing abstract or out of place.

    This pacing of gameplay elements extends to the main focus; the adventure horror. I must say that I got a couple of the biggest jump scares I've ever experienced :) Having said that, the game also excels at providing a more subtle, eerie atmosphere too and does well at releasing all the tension, only to start building it back up again as you journey through the story's ebb and flow.

    Graphics are good, with excellent use of light and shadow. Voice acting is generally decent and sound is used well to enhance the fear and atmosphere.

    The controls work well generally speaking and use the 'hold a button down and move the mouse/thumbstick to swing open the door' Amnesia style system. At first, it was occasionally fiddly, especially when using an item on another object, but it's nothing serious and I got used to it very quickly, never giving it another thought.

    The menu system isn't the smoothest, whether it's the in-game character's or even just the options screen and there were a couple of moments where the controls stopped responding and I needed to restart the game, though it never happened during dramatic segments.

    I enjoyed seeing the two stories run in parallel, and they both held my interest and made me want to unravel their mysteries. The 'modern' story takes place during the early cold war period and it surprised me how well it fit with the supernatural elements; some of the thoughts and conclusions the protagonist came to seemed plausible given the era's paranoia and fear of what the Soviets could have been concocting.

    So, overall, a very good horror game that I enjoyed from start to finish, minus a few little hiccups here and there. I played this on my own, lights out, but I can imagine it also being a great game to play with friends watching/taking turns this Halloween, or indeed any cold, dark winter night :)    … Expand

    i have played it for 2 hours. graphic is good but not perfect. atmosphere is fine. story telling is the best part. i am eager to continue and suggest it. enjoy

    i really wanted to enjoy this game but the tedious and boring puzzles that sometimes don't even function properly removed my will to finish this game.The story was alright and the game looked really good but the puzzles and bad optimization just made me look for another game.

    Awesome game, I highly recommend it for all horror lovers. Great mood, realistic graphics and interesting, but not that hard puzzles. So far best horror game in 2019

    Best game in 2019 so far!
    Great gameplay, amazing graphics and sound(track). The story and voiceacting are also very good.
    If you are a horror fan and if you like games like Outlast, Resident Evil, Amnesia and Silent Hill, you have to buy this.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Buckle in folks. I have some ranting to do about why this game is just another basic indie horror game. The plot starts out VERY typical indie horror: woman getting tortured followed by woman and her husband (the protagonist), new house, basic bickering that indicates they're gonna hate each other. The plot progressed and I had hope for the game. Then it became YET ANOTHER indie horror game. Instead of having a good plot, it basically just says "The protagonist is mentally ill!! With Dissassociative Identity Disorder! He's SCARY and obviously one of his personalities is a MURDERER!!!"
    Stop stigmatizing mental illness. Don't support this game.    … Expand

    It's cheap and small, but fairly scary and the story feels interesting to explore. The main issue is how you have to use your mouse to drag everything: doors and boxes, for example. It is extremely uncomfortable input.

The story is it's downfall: Trite, pathetic, uninspired trash that is obvious from the start. The dual personality, "I'm the true monster" **** has been done to death.     Ok, first things first

    I do liked the game, well, atleast until chapter 6

    Duude, come on, how many times i died in the chasings? I even lost count...

    You may say "you rating 7 cause you noob?"

    No!

    I'm rating 7 cause many things (like the chasings in chapter 6) do not make any sense or add anything to the plot...

    I mean, who was all of that ghosts, and the union soldier (even Abraham Lincoln was mentioned), the crazy woman, the fattie, who was this guys???

    In the end i finished the chapter happy that it ended, but also frustaded and evrn more confused about the plot and how it "works"    … Expand

    el juego me sorprendio para bien pero, tiene algunas cosas malas , empezemos por el rendimiento en pc modesto es bastante malo, algo mas de optimizacion se agradece , las partes del escaner algo confusas a veces, de resto, trama interesante, gameplay, y duracion , lo puedo recomendar si te gusta el genero. la parte tecnica, fuera de la poco optimizacion, esta bien, no hay bugs, al menos noel juego me sorprendio para bien pero, tiene algunas cosas malas , empezemos por el rendimiento en pc modesto es bastante malo, algo mas de optimizacion se agradece , las partes del escaner algo confusas a veces, de resto, trama interesante, gameplay, y duracion , lo puedo recomendar si te gusta el genero. la parte tecnica, fuera de la poco optimizacion, esta bien, no hay bugs, al menos no destacables… Expand

    Far from flawless, this little indie is still worth the try for the plot, puzzles and some nice visuals. The combat, platforming and some awkwardly placed save points are the only faults I can think off .

    I was thinking "another indie horror game with lots of jump scares" but I was so wrong. This is an amazing adventure game! Love the atmosphere, graphic and the story of 2 characters. It is something fresh in this kind of games, especially from indie studio. Of course the animations could be better and some voices but still it was very fun game.     It is basically first-person Tomb Raider with jump scares; a lot, a lot of jump scares, they are not even funny nor scary.

    The Good: premise, art

    The OK: story

    But the game optimization is poor and there are a lot of jump scares, and I don't like the expression of this game. An agent with dual personality arrests the "ubiquitous" Soviet spies around him? And kill them in a bloody and cruel way without trial to delimit the front line against communism? The protagonist    The plot of the game is very good. I like the last plot reversal very much.

    Подобные бредовые модели поведения главных героев, как с третьесортных американских ужастиках, портят впечатления от неплохого, в сущности, сюжета.

    Игра представляет собой средненький симулятор ходьбы с элементами хоррора

    Из плюсов можно отметить:
    + Интересная идея про парраллельные приключения двух персонажей в разных эпохах. Сотрудник ЦРУ распутывает заговор в разгар холодной войны, а неврастеничный юноша из 18 столетия пытается разобраться в себе и раскрыть тайну своей семьи (естественно, страшную).
    + Хорошая детализация мира - красивые, детализованные интерьеры домов, любой предмет можно подобрать, осмотреть, все ящики можно открыть (правда, непонятно, зачем?)

    Из минусов:
    - Отсутствие каких-то новых идей, вторичность почти во всем. Особенно удивляют локации 18 века: Темный лес, особняк с привидениями (оо, как свежо!), заброшенная шахта, и .. ВНИМАНИЕ!!! .... ...Снова особняк с призраками (ведь с первого раза мы не поняли всю уточненную оригинальность этой идеи). Привет, Амнезия, Пенумбра, Резидент Ивил, да и любые старые хорроры. Мы все это уже видели много раз.

    В общем, 7/10    … Expand

    Very good horror game!
    Story was very long and complex at first, but then it became clearer what it was about.
    Gameplay was very refreshing and the graphics were extremely good.

    Хороший хоррор, который может удивить изменениями механик в процессе прохождения.
    Не затянут, сюжет неплох, вариативность концовок также присутствует.
    Достойный внимания проект.

    One can clearly see the ambition in The Beast Inside, but the developer's lack of experience means it doesn't actually reach those heights.

    How impressive is this grueling horror experience? I guessed the ending mere minutes into the demo earlier this year, and yet when it came time to play the full game, I still found myself getting caught up in the twists and turns. That’s right — even knowing the ending before going in, the journey was so powerful that I’m glad to have taken it, and would recommend that any fan of first-person horror do the same.

    In ‘horror’ category The Beast Inside is my biggest and most pleasant surprise of this year. Almost all of its cogs are in the right places and the occasional grain of sand doesn’t interrupt the the game’s steady rhythm. [13/2019, p.56]
