I’m a fan of the changes they made to the the battle system in comparison to Pokémon and that you can play with friends but that’s where the praise ends for me. I understand the game is in early access right now and the team will make changes later but I feel the variety of creatures is severely lacking in the first few areas. For instance, in the ruins when trying to rescue a character all you run into is the same dog and occasionally a platypus if your lucky. Secondly, there’s no reliable way to acquire money to buy items like potions or revives which you use a fair amount even if you are higher level than the wild creatures. This leads me to my last point, which is the level distribution in the early areas. I can fight a tamer with level 10’s and then the very next one will have tems from 16-18 that end up making me use most of my items after the battle because they do ridiculous damage even though I’m the same level or a higher level. I’m all for grinding and difficulty (since monster hunter is one of my favorite games) but there needs to be a fun and not a slow as a snail process to leveling up and trying to get money. Overall, right now in its early stages, Temtem is an average game that some people will adore and some people will just find boring and not worth their time. Expand

Nothing out of the box for this game, no new systems of gathering or creating new items or gear, knowing there will be microtransactions in game I already paid good money for is also quite sad. How hard would it be to drop some items from monsters you fight to allow you do some kind of crafting or cooking or ANYTHING? The graphics are decent and it's a game-alike to pokemon, however, game feels too basic and I cannot stress this enough - BORING Expand

Its great. I love the gameplay but i think it would be more fun if it was Call of Duty. Still, copying Pokemon instead still has its advantages. I like pokemon.

A very good game which has a very good follow-up of its developers both on Twitter and on Discord. They listen to the community.

Do not listen to people who talk about future micro-transaction because it is completely false.

Just awful. The game is being made and touted to be a "Pokemon killer", and there's absolutely 0% chance that will happen, just like the 0 it gets today. Don't call it an MMO either just because there is a bunch of people running around. This game shows that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Enjoy your one month of fame.

The gameplay is fun, the fights actually need stratgedy, graphics are really pretty, the world and story is big and immersive, the character customization is cute, the price is quite low considering what you need to pay for pokémon and there are very few bugs for still being early access. I highly recommend checking it out.

A battle system different enough to stand out from Pokemon. Using stamina instead of PP, and a priority system with more depth. Rng in battle has been removed so you can fight with more tactics. There also is a focus on synergy with teams due to being balanced by double battle's. A worthy opponent for the popular Pokemon franchise. Don't be deceived by it's cute graphics. It's rather challenging, but also not super difficult. It does a lot of things as well or better than Pokemon and is definitely worth trying out if you like the genre.

Unfortunately that excitement quickly became buyers remorse as I grew incredibly bored of the game by the third gym. The game held my hand too much and let me over level and basically sweep every opponent for 10 hours using just two pokemon. It was a snoozefest where it felt like the only real enjoyment I was going to get out of Pokemon was the endgame pokedex completion and perfect IV chasing.

Enter TemTem. From the very start the game hits hard and doesn't hold back. It's challenging in all the right ways. It immediately introduces you to tactical gameplay and content that you'd only find at endgame pokemon games.

The battle system is far superior. The2v2 format is wonderful, and the no RNG crit/dodge/feint/flinch philosophy is incredibly refreshing. It feels like a skill based tactical turn based strategy game which seems impossible to pull off, but Crema has done it.

Things that seemed incredibly intimidating in the pokemon games like breeding or IV chasing are actually intuitive parts of the game that are introduced organically as you progress. Each zone is elegant and charming, and the world feels much larger than it actually is, which is a good thing. The storyline is also quite enjoyable and easy to feel invested in unlike Sword. TemTem is hands down better than Sword and Shield in every single way, and it's only early access. There are still dozens of WIP areas and zones yet to be revealed and new TemTem being released weekly until the game fully launches. It is well worth the $30.

This game doesn't "kill Pokemon" and nor does it need to; Pokemon's platform-dependence means that it's missing out on a fairly large segment of the market which Temtem is now trying to fill.

That's all I'm going to say about the weird "Pokemon vs. Temtem" fight that's going on in these reviews.

In terms of gameplay, Temtem is fairly complex. While there is a burden of knowledge for simply recognizing the types of the opponent Temtems and knowing the massive table of strengths and weaknesses, that burden can be lessened by having images to refer to in order to smooth out the learning process. Once you've learned all of the Temtems and elements, the references should no longer be necessary.

Synergies and Traits add an interesting twist to Temtem gameplay. Certain abilities may be buffed by having other Temtems of certain types in play, so especially in co-op, it can be important to coordinate with your partner to ensure you're filling each others' synergy requirements.

Attacks seem relatively balanced so far, with attacks that have high stamina costs doing what seems like logarithmically more damage to tradeoff their turn usage and attacks with long cooldowns doing a lot more damage because of their lessened availability. Determining what abilities to bring, which Temtems to use, and how to appropriately combine their skills is the essence of the Temtem tactics within a fight. Outside of a fight, breeding your Temtems and giving them the right equipment is very important.

The only feature I'd wish they'd plan on adding is cooperative with more than 2 players. The synergies are already fairly complex with only two Temtems on the field at once, but with 3 or 4 it could cause some very interesting dynamics. Sadly, however, the developers have said there are no current plans to create "raids", which I assume implies we'll be sticking with 2-player cooperative for now.

While I expect there to be limited longevity with the current state of the game, the developers plan to add many Temtems over time and definitely seem to have new features planned out. For an early access game, this is quite a good experience. As always, if you'd like to support the development, feel free to buy in, but there's no harm in waiting until the game is fully released if you'd prefer to see how it plays out in the long-term.

End note: servers have been struggling under the load of new players over the past couple days, so if you buy it now, you may need to be patient. If that's a dealbreaker, just wait until they've fixed the server issues.

Now this game... is honestly amazing and this is from my early access POV... I have clocked in 11 hours so far... I think the biggest thing that was keeping me stuck to it after playing Sword is the difficulty and I wanted to experience the first Gym(Dojo) and boy was I thrilled and I cant wait for my next Temtem play session. This game honestly has so much potential and I hope it does really well.

My only cons I have for it is that; well at launch there were queue times and lag but after like day 4 all these issues seem polished and I haven't ran into any crashes, lag or queues actually after that initial launch day.
-ALSO this game needs a better way to make money... I really think we will need some kind of profession system for the economy of this game.

Be warned though, the game is currently in early access and has a number of technical issues that you can expect to see improved in the year run up to it's full release for PC and consoles.

It is more difficult than pokemon games have been in recent years, which is actually a relief. I find myself forming strategy around my money and available items, something I haven't done in I don't know how long in pokemon games. The diaglog is entertaining. There have been a few hiccups and glaring bugs over the past few days since early access started, but the development team is very active on their Discord and Twitter.

Temtem is a fantastic game when you look at its story and gameplay mechanics alone. However, when you see the variety of activities it has to offer and the way its economy is structured, it will make you second-guess your stay after the main story campaign is done and over with.
