Most levels are very hard and require you to learn to manoeuvre your robot very precisely. And even then, a lot will often depend on sheer luck, and you will die dozens of times before you succeed.

    There is a large variety of stages, from high speed ones, to the more aerial ones where you perform numerous jumps between platforms, and so on. Some take a form of drag race, where you must time your boosts accurately, others are more open and have multitudes of paths to take through a level.

    The main 'campaign' has 41 levels. There are a lot of tough, frustrating moments, but strangely enough you will keep coming back to the game repeatedly to try and beat the level you're stuck on. Once you complete the campaign, you unlock several bonus levels, which, from what I played so far, seem even harder than the original campaign ones. You also have an endless run level, where you keep running and dodging obstacles for as long as you can.

    The game has a very nice visual style and cool electronic music. All this helps to enhance the virtual reality atmosphere the game is going for. If high speed challenging games are your thing, then give this game a try.    … Full Review »

For the same price as a mobile phone app, this game delivers the kind of experience which is far too focused for most AAA developers. There are two styles here - one of them is like a rhythm game (e.g. Audiosurf) where you switch between lanes and have a linear path. Another is much more open-ended with multiple paths, variable speed, much more player control. It's this second mode that makes the game interesting. TEC 3001 captures the essence of racing games but without cars. It's all about control, precision, timing, planning ahead and of course, not crashing. The mechanics and controls are very intuitive. The game does a great job of telling you everything through actual gameplay as and when appropriate. There is minimal tutorial/text-reading time. It's straight in the action. There's no pointless story or background rubbish. It's all about the gameplay - which is simple but satisfying. It's exciting, and although that sounds like a simple statement, it's surprising how many games nowadays fail to capture the excitement because they get carried away with presentation and sugar-coating the gameplay around a pointless story. Speaking of which, the visual style and soundtrack suit the game and levels really well. If you like time trial games (think Mirror's Edge) and rhythm games, you will probably enjoy this.
