It's true that the jokes aren't as funny this time around but the puzzles are challenging without being frustrating, which should help you see this one through to a satisfying conclusion.
  2. Telltale's production quality is remarkable, and they must be commended for at least pushing the series violently towards what is sure to be a fascinating climax. However, the game must also be criticized for the inconsistency of its flow and the near-complete lack of original locations and characters (Stan's delightful return notwithstanding).
  3. Worldplay, grog and atmosphere, but still quite weak puzzles - the fourth episode of Tales of Monkey Island offers good entertainment, including the well known problems of all episodes so far. Only the great presentation prevents the game from mediocrity.
  4. Another disappointing chapter in the increasingly uneven adventures of gaming's mightiest pirate.

Wittiness took a short vacation this time compared to previous chapters – nevertheless Monkey Island still keeps its high standards in every aspect. [Dec 2009]

Though the puzzles are on the weaker side this time, the twists and turns that the story takes are all gripping and make you want to finish the chapter in one sitting. The returning character is definitely a highlight of this chapter, but everyone else also has a compelling arc — everyone gets their own important moments, which is impressive given how limited the game's time is.
