One of the best cyberpunk games you can play. The controls feel a little weird for the first half-hour but then become tons of fun. The controls allow you to feel like you are actually playing as the main character. If you liked Deus Ex or System Shock 2, this game is perfect for you.

Ohh the good old classic that nobody played because System shock 2 was so much better. Okay in all seriousness this is a pretty good game. On with the review then.

Pros: -The gameplay. This is one of the most strategic and most innovative games for it's time. Literally anything that can be collected, you can collect. From the smallest chip to the biggest gun, there's nothing too big

-The atmosphere is top notch. Everything feels like is trying to kill you and it really looks like an abandoned spaceship. It is downright perfect

    Cons:
-This is a nitpick but i seriously can't stand the graphics. They looks so bad but that's to be expected from a game from 1992/1993

Overall System shock is a great game that will kick any so called hardcore player in it's ass and overall deserves to get recognized more like it's younger brother System shock 2.

This game is an old favorite of mine. I actually still have my 1994 copy of the game. This game was followed by System Shock 2 that was an under appreciated sleeper title. Even back in the day, the 800x600 resolution combined with the incredibly visually busy environment made this game tough to play. Also back then there were no real control standards for FPS games and there was no way to tailor the original controls. The Enhanced Edition has fixed most of that. The "original" manual is included, but be sure that you look online for the control setup for the Enhanced Edition which has been updated as much as possible to the standard WASD and Mouselook. Also the resolution has been upgraded and there is now a 16 x 9 option along with the original 4 x 3 mode. Even though this is a 20-plus year old game it was and still is a standout in the cyberpunk genera. The game provides a very tension filled environment. You are presented with many technology based logic puzzles that you must solve while trying to defeat SHODAN, the computer brain that has eradicated most of the crew on board and has filled the station with Mutants, Cyborgs and Robot defense Terminals all programed to kill humans. You escaped SHODAN's notice because you were locked away in stasis while the slaughter took place. This is the kind of game that sucks you into the story after a few minutes and won't notice the aging graphics so much. This was great game in 94 and it still is and updates have made it better. Worth playing! Expand

It's a wonderful game, but I can't get past the dated controls. The graphics are more dizzying than Descent I. You have to toggle between free look and movement. It needs a full remake instead just a partial update to be playable.

A must play, with just the best antagonist. I am single because Shodan set the standards so high.

System Shock is an atmospheric shooter with light adventure elements. Without spoiling anything, you are a hacker trying to overcome Shodan’s plans, the enemy AI who has taken control of the space station Citadel. System Shock may be the first FPS which tried to blend in story elements with shooter mechanics and it is hard to ignore its importance in the evolution of FPSs, considering it came out 4 years before the original Half-Life.

Whereas System Shock still holds up in some areas (story, atmosphere), it shows its age in others… Shooting is pretty bad and the AI is quite poor. Throughout the game, I have killed many enemies, because they were stuck in a doorway, unable to find their way towards me. The UI is very different from today’s standardized UIs and often criticized, but I honestly enjoyed its sophistication. My main problem with System Shock was the maze-like level design and backtracking. I often found myself trying to figure out how to progress, finding out later that I am supposed go back to a small room five levels (floors) earlier. Hacking mini-games are alright and the inventory management is fun.

Overall, System Shock was too ambitious for its technical limitations in 1994. It definitely deserves respect for what it was trying to do, but if I had to name one game that desperately needs a remake it would be the original System Shock. Thanks to Nightdive Studios, I guess we will get our hands on that out soon…

There are some insects that can't appreciate this game. Some of them can be observed in review section below.
This game is a product of so much imagination and labor. Level design is efficient and fun. Music and sound work reached it's electric perfection.
Some say that graphics and interface aged poor. Needless to say that those pathetic creatures or meat and bone will just can't

The only reason of breaking 1 point is this game is too ahead of it's time. Because the coplexity of this game causes hard times at the beginning. But this problem is disappearing in the first two hours. Also you can easily get lost at Citadelat the beginning.

Now let's talk about story and lore without spoiling. Our story begins with an explaining and epic cutscene about how we dive into the terrifying adventure in 2072. Then our adventure against ai is starts. And from now on we are alone until the end just like the main character. But we find the records of survivors before us and lore and story starts expanding and getting more exciting and wondering.

Time to talk about controls and graphics. Controls are hard to learn at the beginning. Because the complexity of the game requires a lot of buttons and sometimes remembering the controls is just hard.Graphics are not bad for a 1994's PC video game. But sometimes sparks claustrophobia.

Gameplay feels like metroidvania most of the time and it's just a perfect choice for a game like that. Also minigames are funny if you are good at this. And there is a lot of types of guns and enemies that changes the action.

Long story short, if you love sci-fi this game has litteraly one of the best sci-fi lore and story. Also this game is just perfect for metroidvania lovers. This game is a MASTERPIECE.

The old System Shock was not the easiest game to get immersed in and that was mostly due to its controls. The overhaul makes the game infinitely more enjoyable simply by virtue of no longer needing to struggle with these.

It is still a classic, and one that planted some incredibly important seeds for the fps genre as a whole. This enhanced edition brings all that back and adds a little more, but unfortunately the control system hasn’t aged well.

So good to see Night Dive Studios revive this classic and make it purchasable and playable again. If you've ever uttered the words 'cyberpunk' or like games that have the word 'shock' or "Deus Ex" in them, give this one an honest try -- it may not look the part in screenshots, but it's a legend.
