The sound design is supported by an old fashioned art design that gets the job done. Sometimes it looks like a very attractive GBA game and sometimes the portraits are distractingly higher res than the character models. Classic game weirdness! And that’s the thing- Symphony of War doesn’t get perfect marks across the board. But it adds up to more than a sum of its parts. Once you start noticing how elegantly all of Symphony of War’s systems interact, you’ll never be able to go back.

I was pleasantly surprised with the time I spent playing this SRPG. In many ways, it draws from classic heavyweights of the genre, but it also has more than enough substance to stand on its own. There’s certainly a lot to uncover and do throughout a playthrough, and it also has moderate replay value given the ways player choice alters certain narrative events. Symphony of War: The Nephilim Saga is an adventure fans of tactical RPGs might want to keep an eye on.

I fell in love with this highly addictive gem after just a couple of turns. If you don’t mind that it was created with RPG Maker and looks like a decades-old relic, if you’re able to turn a blind eye to poor enemy AI and you’re willing to give the story time to really get going, you’ll probably lose track of time. Just like I did when I spent 16 hours with Symphony of War just on the first day with it.

Perfection is not stationed in Tahnra yet, but despite this, Symphony of War is still a strong and compelling turn-based strategy thanks to the amazing mix of simplicity and depth of its mechanics.

Novel tactical mechanics make this indie a contender for the best strategy RPG this year.

Appreciating Symphony of War takes some adjustment to its production values, but our 50 hours with the game were largely a joy. It’s built for those who delight in fiddling with systems and tweaking squad builds, and its combination of ideas offers a distinct tactical experience.

Symphony of War: The Nephilim Saga is a fabulously fun tactical RPG. The squad-based gameplay and management mechanics co-exist incredibly well, and there is a surprising amount of complexity in each of the systems. While the expanded lore has had a lot of thought put into it, the games narrative does feel rather rushed and uninteresting. If you’re a fan of management RPGs, and are looking for something that will scratch the Ogre Battle itch, then this is a game worth checking out.

Great strategy game its mix Fire Emblem with Ogre Battle, you can make your own squad.
with your choices equipment, tech trees and what class of units. Each squad can equip 3 different artifacts, There 3 different kind of terrains in the game Forest, Swamp, Towns.

As for classes units there are 2 type Heavy Infantry/Heavy Cavalry and Light Infantry

Light In Infantry can Ambush enemy if they attack the enemy in opening space from any terrains.

Cavalry can do Charge if they move 7 space before they attack.

so the different between Light In Infantry and Heavy Infantry, Heavy Infantry have high def and Light Infantry have low def but higher Ski (Evade, Hit, Crit Rate)

So each squad (and you will have many) is different since they can include up to 9 different men inside from a wide range of type (archers, soldiers, riders, and more).
The game is quite long with many different missions. A great number of mission are interesting because even if the game is a tactical rpg, there are some story elements which change the tide of a battle. The story told is a bit epic, and has many good elements, but by the ending, the writing of the dialogues feel weaker and some choices leave the player with a mixed feeling because they display something, but not clearly explaining what this mean, and then something happens which change completly the perception of the player who would then maybe want to make another choice if he had know what his first choice entailed.

Also, the UI of the game is not very good. There are improvements planned by the little team of developers, but there are quite a number of weakness in the UI department.

So for me, it's a really solid 8/10 but no more.
Good thing is the dev intends to give more content for this game and is already preparing a 2d game improving many things for the future so intend to pursue the lore and expand the gameplay ideas.

The presentation isn't up to par with FE series, however, the care and work that was put into this game is quite evident. The unit design and variety is excellent as is the class system. There is a fair amount of story and character interaction as well although it would have been great to have some voice work in the game. Also, the fast forward option is a God send, save a lot of time. All in all, definitely give this game a try. Expand

I really liked the combination of squad planning and automated battles. Even if I had to yell at the AI a few times for attacking instead of healing.

As other's have noted the core gameplay is very similar to other traditional tactical RPGs and is executed well. I'd recommend playing it on highest difficulty as you out scaled your enemies very early on. Story could be improved as it felt very high-schooley and generic. Not sure what was the point of the "bonded" conversation element. Overall, I think the core elements are great here, More variety in classes, some "merging" between them or significant interaction would improve it a lot more. Expand
