I spend a lot of time supporting solo developer and small team independent MMO and other multiplayer projects. The multiplayer soccer game where each person behind the keys only controls a single player isn't a new concept, albeit it's a concept that's struggled to get any traction in previous attempts. This game has the worst presentation I've seen in awhile for a game listed on Steam. It's a default menu system with only the most barebones of options. It's serviceable and mostly works, but it definitely gives the initial impression of being a scam title moreso than the project by a passionate developer that I believe it to be. A background, a different font, and a bit of flair would go quite a long way to spruce up the presentation.
You can create your own room or join a room. Good luck finding a room without contacting the developer or bringing your own friends. Luckily, there's the option for AI-controlled players. In my experience, the AI players for the CPU team are competent enough while my own AI players seem to just randomly kick the ball down field to the other team. Perhaps the AI is adapting to my quite atrocious play? I've definitely seen worse AI in AAA games over the years, so the developer seems to be on the right track with that at least.
The controls are quite awkward, making use of the mouse and holding down a key to move forward. Once you adapt to the controls, they really aren't that bad, but it's strange why this control scheme was chosen. I'm not that much of an online soccer game person, so perhaps there's a reason for utilizing this setup?
The graphics are very basic. It's basically a stick figure / small child art style. It's at least consistent in style across the game, but having a consistent style of "3 year old child drawings" isn't necessarily a good thing. Sensible soccer nailed simplistic art direction. This game doesn't.
This game really, really doesn't feel ready for release, especially not release on Steam. It's definitely more appropriate for GameJolt or Itch.io for the next 6 months to 2 years until additional work is completed on the UI, graphics & sound, and well.. basically everything. I can tell the developer spent a lot of time on this project so far and it definitely has potential, but it's just not ready for public release at this time.… Expand
