What is really impressive about Sudden Strike is that it creates a more realistic battlefield than other RTS games without bogging everything down in statistics.
-
A solid game and a great introduction for those who are tired of the mindless carnage in RTS titles but aren't ready to cut their teeth yet in hardcore wargaming. Those who approach this game with a cannon fodder mentality will definitely be in for a rude awakening.
-
An enjoyable change of pace and presents enough atmosphere, and solid gameplay to entertain, just don't expect any of it to be easy.
-
Atmosphere and dynamics of Sudden Strike are a reason why computer games remain more interesting than adventure novels.
-
The game's campaign mode is disappointing. Most missions are not based on historical battles, and there are no consequences for losing a mission other than that it will have to be replayed.
-
May be too complicated for many real-time strategy players and a little too silly for hardcore wargamers. If you don't mind making some compromises in either direction, however, there is ample fun to be had.
-
Playing the larger missions is more tedious than fun because of path finding and unit management problems.
-
The levels look absolutely stunning on the super high resolution. I love the weapon effects and the destructible terrain.
-
You have to mentally battle here, make decisions quickly and suffer the consequences of bad decisions. The single player game is tough; the online game is tougher.
-
CNET GamecenterOn paper, the idea sounds great (and the game has been a huge hit in Europe), but the final product flat out stinks.
-
All the clever animations, amusing sounds, and pretty battle graphics in the world can't replace an interesting combat system.
-
If you love real-time strategy but are getting a little bored of tank rushes and linear opposition then you should snap this up as soon as you can its worth every penny and then some.
-
In a sea of disappointing and frustratingly similar games, Sudden Strike emerges as a rare gem.
-
What a Real Time Strategy is meant to be. 'nuff said.
-
Worth a look. Even if you are not a fan of the period or prefer more traditional RTS games, you will probably find that the challenges offered by the diverse campaigns will suck in more of your time than you expected.

PC GamerThere's fun to be had here so long as you aren't expecting a serious World War II sim. [Feb 2001, p.64]
