    Gameplay - The diving aspect is executed very well. You really feel like you're diving. Learning new recipes for items you can create, along with building your base, is also very fun. There is always something new you're looking forward to creating. While looking for those materials, you often find another blueprint. It keeps you engaged and always saying "I'll just do this before logging off...". The story is good, but not amazing. The only bad thing I can really say about the gameplay is that it gets a bit repetitive in the mid game, where there is a bit of a slow down in the story progression. I feel that the developers could have added a bit more here to keep the gameplay flowing.

    Graphics - Certain graphical aspects are really good! These I would rate 8 or 9 out of 10. The best of these are the water effects, and the biomes. The water looks great, especially when underneath and there are sunrays bursting through the water. It's brilliant and really sells the feeling that you are diving. The biomes are beautiful, and each feels very distinct. The colors are gorgeous, and the graphics of the different plants and fish you see in different biomes are lovely. Where the graphics are let down most is pop-ins. It's really immersion breaking and very frequent. Whenever you are travelling you will see it everywhere. There is no option to increase draw distance. There are a few other areas where the graphics could be better, such as the planet in the distance, which looks almost like a cardboard pop-in and at times doesn't even seem like it's in the distance.

    Music/Sound - Brilliant. It really sells the feeling that you are diving into an unknown area. Each biome has different music, matching the vibe of that biome. There are some biomes where the music really gets your adrenalin pumping. The sound effects are great too, even the little things such as guggling down some water. Excellent job by the sound team, and I think sound is a very underrated aspect of a game.

    Uniqueness - There is no other game like it. If you want to feel like a diver and want to explore and underwater world then pick this game up right now. It would get a 10, however it does re-use many survival game aspects, so I can't call it a completely unique game. If you have played many survival games, you will probably find the survival aspect boring. But the underwater exploration is just simply fantastic and you will not find it anywhere else.

    Monetization - Excellent. You pay for the game once. You own the game forever. There are no macroscamsactions, lootboxes, or any of that garbage. It didn't get a 10 because to get a 10 you have to be incredibly good value, and the game is still in that £20-£30 bracket. While absolutely worth it, I have seen on occasion some simialr quality level games at under £10. And these are the ones that I would give a 10 to. The devs have also offered some DLC, but they have put effort into it, and it is standalone to Subnautica, so you don't need the DLC. Think of that as a different game! Overall, Subnautica is absolutely worth the money. Developers who don't try to scam their players should be rewarded. It is currently £25 which is good value.

    Overall, if you have an inclination to explore an underwater world and like the idea of diving, and improving your equipment to explore more and more areas, then seriously consider buying this game. This is what it excels at. The story and the graphics are good, but not exceptional. Survival game lovers might find the survival aspects a bit boring as they are pretty standard.    … Expand

    There is no map in the game so you have to either memorize the place or just use beacon, however memorizing the map is not that hard after putting few beacon for landmark because of the unique flora and fauna in every area.

    Subnautica is one of the best examples of what makes videogames fun. Its mainly immersion. Unlike modern videogames Subnautica doesn't assist the player throughout the play-through. No tutorial, no handholding, no cutscenes, no map, no real indication of what you have to do, nothing. Only the freedom to decide what you want to do yourself. This base already fades away the sense that youSubnautica is one of the best examples of what makes videogames fun. Its mainly immersion. On top of this, your character never talks, which really makes you feel like you are that character. Not that you control a character with its own conscience. After playing for a while, you start to realize that you really have to figure out everything yourself. And because the underwater world and its mystery is so captivating, you can easily put up with long hours of exploration to seek out every place and piece of information there is to find. To top it all off Subnautica is incredibly scary. I can say with certainty that Subnautica is going to introduce you to multiple fears you didn't know you had. They play right into those fears by adding fog, big wrecks, big bodies of water, darkness, disturbing looking biomes and worst of all alien sea monsters. Not to forget the incredible sound design by Simon Chylinski which builds up the tension from 0 to 100 real quick. After a certain point, Subnautica becomes a battle between your curiosity and your fear of the unknown. Overcoming that fear time after time was a great experience. There is honestly so much more to say about this game, but you really just have to experience it yourself.… Expand

Bought the game in 2018, it’s been an emotional roller coaster, there’s always that feeling when you see the sea emperors kids go and venture, also the combination between horror game and adventure open world game is so good, no feeling beats the one you felt when you beat the game for the first time, it’s a one in a lifetime experience, enjoy it.… Expand

    I had slept on Subnautica for the longest time, it had been in my library more or less since release and until now I only had around an hours play-time in it. I viewed it as just a weird underwater survival sandbox but it really is so much more than that.     I had slept on Subnautica for the longest time, it had been in my library more or less since release and until now I only had around an hours play-time in it. I viewed it as just a weird underwater survival sandbox but it really is so much more than that.

    Firstly the game looks great, it's very colourful and the different biomes take on a whole new colour palette whenever you enter them and leave them which makes the world feel more enjoyable to explore.

    The different fauna and fish; the amount of detail and lore they've put into these things just from scanning them is absurd, but in a good way. There's always something to read and learn and eventually you begin to feel one with the surrounding marine life.

    The resources you get are interesting, or at least the way you get them is interesting and fun to me. A bit of mining, a bit of cutting and combining them to make new items so that you can fabricate even more advanced materials and items. It's no different really from most survival crafting games but there's something a lot more satisfying about getting items in this game than it is others. Maybe it's just the sound of the fabricator.

    There is an overarching story, but I won't delve too deep into it, basically you've crashed on an alien planet and need to get off the planet; and some other stuff happens here, there and in-between, but I won't spoil it here.

    My only real criticism is that some resources can be rather difficult to find, Kyranite especially. You can be wandering around for quite a long time in the completely wrong area and have absolutely no idea that you're wasting your time. So you end up basically scanning the entire map to find out where to go, only to need to get an upgrade to go there. Which isn't a problem, getting the upgrades is part of the fun, but it can be rough after searching for a while, finding where you need to go, only to back-track to get the resources to go there. Feels like time wasted.

    Furthermore in order to complete certain tasks, you need certain items which are hidden in deep sea bases, without some of them, it's near impossible to complete the game.

    Sometimes you get a weird frame-stutter bug when entering and exiting a vehicle, it's noticeable but it's not game breaking by any means.

    I enjoyed my time in Subnautica, it's one of those games where you'll be asking. "Where did the time go?" And next thing you know, it's 5am.

    Don't do what I did and sleep on this, it's a phenomenal game. For a first run, just have your goal to be to complete the game and you'll find the magic that's laced throughout this amazing world.

    7/10 - Will likely do another playthrough at some point.    … Expand

    Great exploration game, especially if you enjoy the sea. It has a beautiful art style and a pleasant mystery story that you have to discover by yourself like a marine detective :D

    Unfortunately the game could have used a lot more polish, as the controls for certain transportation options were very clunky, frequently getting stuck on edges.     Fish and other more dangerous creatures would oftenly clip through solid objects, which also hurt the overall experience.

    The enemies were also quite derpy and once you get used to them it becomes trivial to avoid them.

    In the second half of the game, especially the end, it did really get excruciatingly dull when it came to gathering materials for the "final ingredients" and components in order to finish.

    Overall this is a fairly enjoyable game if you're a fan of diving and exploring the natural world, with a few caveats.    … Expand

    Very enjoyable and good game. It has good story as well. I definetly suggest it. Only thing that I didn't like about the game is difficulty of exploring. It is kinda hard to explore and to find your way. It is 8 out of 10.

    This game is interesting and exciting at first but it doesn't take long before it all starts looking the same and then it feels boring and aimless as there is no direction in what to do and ends up feeling so repetitive as you are just continually trying to find resources which is tedious and boring. Inventory full? Build more storage-space. Need Ressources for Storage space? Good luck finding them or bringing them along with your tiny inventory! Need specific ressources that require specific tools to mine them? You guessed it: Need to find these ressources first! And pray to Cthulhu you'll have enough inventory-space!

    Not only does the game never tell you where to find most of the needed crafting-materials (good luck guessing what vague locations your PDA was thinking about!), it spreads them out so you'll keep on backtracking, searching and cursing at your limited inventory-space.

    When you are finally able to build the big submarine (controls like **** or the prawn-suit [good luck sinking somewere in this thing and the jump-thrusters can't get you out!] (they cost an INSANE amount of rare materials and will require you to spend hours over hours looking for small and hidden ressources spread miles away), all they do is let you get "deeper". And even there the novelty wears of quickly.
    Because guess what you have to do at the bottom of the ocean again: Searching and searching and searching for rare materials, backtracking until your eyes bleed and repeat this until you fall asleep.

    It gets even more mundane since the deep gets less detailed, more weird AI-bugs keep popping up (wildlife swims in a stuttering manner or clips through your ship or your base) and ressource-requirements seem to skyrocket.

    This game seems to have the intention to punish you for progression. The further and deeper you go, the more you have to collect, backtrack, repair, replenish energy-cells and so on, and so on.

    Ah yes there is a "No ressources are required-mode", but this makes the "game" (rather work-enviroment) even more boring. The Novelty wears off very quickly, the building-mechanic is like pulling nails, with a "camera" way too close to the building-sectors and even noone to show off your impressive (still pretty limited) buildings, because its SP only.

    This mode shows you even more how empty and bland the game really is, with a paper-thin story and story-elements ridicoulosly hidden away or placed in weird unfair locations!    … Expand

    There is nothing else in the game than widely spread materials what you constantly need, and you either found them or not and looking Youtube videos for help (that's why it is the most discussed PC game of '18). If not, you can spend infinite time to find what you need, by luck. The entire "excitement" is based on that. After you learned from videos what to do, you become totally bored.

    The game also channeling constant desperation and loneliness. If you thought that Generation-Z is a lonely game without additional players, that is nothing, compared to this. But of course this is not necessarily a bad thing, because it's part of the story line.

    The crafting mechanics is polished and you feel that 90% of the game making time was spent on that (10% on the graphics), but without game mechanics, it worth very little.

    You can't just put a player into loneliness for 100+ hours and expect positive results (okay, actually you can, since the game got highly positive reviews for a reason which is beyond me).

    But to be honest, this game is very unique in its own way, so I have to recommend it.    … Expand

Me hubiera gustado que tenga multijugador, se que en parte la gracia del juego esta en sentirse solo y atrapado en un planeta desconocido, pero no hay que mentir sobre que seria muy curioso y interesante que hubieran añadido esta modalidad (aunque aun pueden hacerla, están haciendo actualizaciones para mejorar el juego). Sé que existe el launcher de Nitrox, pero quiero jugarlo online de una forma oficial ya que Nitrox da problemas de conexión, la fauna o minerales no están sincronizados con los demás jugadores y pueden haber muchos bugs como objetos duplicados o peces sin movimiento.

    After 125 hours played in this open-world game, i have discovered something new every time, this game its perfect for people who is looking for a non scary game but yes for a game that gives you goosebumps. The music is perfect, and the story its interesting but not necessary. One of the most underrated games, almost in the last 10 years.

    RT and LT are switched on 360 gamepad, so don't believe the lies that this is controller supported, (if you switch them in options you get the incorrect UI prompts, good luck playing like this)

    An amazing game :O This was a unique experience for me, I had never played a game like this! A great exploration & resource management game. And the survival elements were not annoying to me, and generated tension & necessary planning in the early & mid-game. The story was surprising!!     Subnautica is a really good survival/horror game title. It has a huge unique open world which most of the time gives you goosebumps. Building a base, creating new vehicles, exploring the deepest pits of the alien ocean. But the main issue I think the game has is the constant need to farm more materials and that makes this unique game boring sometimes.     It's a very good game, but it's very poorly optimized. I played it on my PC and XBOX, on both, when I set up my base and look at it, the game hits 22 fps on PC and 15 fps on series x. Also, the game has a lot of loading popups. And I think the story could be easier to understand, not necessarily needing to read and look for the PDA's

    This game is amazing. Underwater world looks really massive, beautifull and scary in the same time. Plot is enough good. Two main problems are grinding and bugs. I strongly recommend it.

    I rarely give 10/10 scores. The sense of awe and exploration is like BOTW, but with a feeling of isolation that’s both zen-like calm and terrifying at times. Saying too much will spoil the numerous discoveries scattered through the game. I almost wish I could forget the game just to I can experience it for the first time again. This is a 100% must-play.

    The survival, exploration and terror aspects are so good. You dont know the amount of times i had an adrenaline boost right after hearing a reaper leviathan in the distance.

    The underwater setting is refreshing and enjoyable. The crafting and story progression and the mystery of the world are great. Only the bugs are a bit annoying at times.

    this is the best survival game i have ever played. it is very fun and replayable. i completed the game 5 times by now and i could complete it the 6th time. the only bad thing about it are the weird bugs that appear at random but they arent a big deal. overall a must buy

    Poucas vezes na vida fui tão surpreendido positivamente num jogo. É incrível, envolvente, leve, divertido e surpreendente. Não tive nenhuma experiência negativa e a história é sensacional. Eu espero muito que essa empresa continue produzindo jogos com tamanho primor. Nota máxima.

    아직 절차적 생성에는 부족한 점이 많다는걸 깨달은 작품. 어디든지 갈수있지만 산소량의 한계로 레벨에 따라 자연스럽게 잠수의 한계를 구현한게 좋았다. 수중공포증을 가진 내가 그걸 이겨가면서까지 몰입하게한 작품.

I don't know if they will make a third game, but if they do, they should give credit to the first game and re-live the feeling that Subnautica gave me.     This game is one of the iconic steam games in my opinion. Atmosphere in Sub Nautica is incredible and terrifying. This game has major technical issues however that ruined my first playthrough of this game. Another issue is the lack of direction in this game. I would recommend using a guide if you want to play this game.

    Subnautica se zprvu může zdát, jako hra s náhodně generovaným prostředím, ale není tomu vůbec tak. Celý svět je umně vybudován, aby dával smysl a byl zatraceně strhující. Jako hlavní hrdina nemáte čas na odpočinek. První věc co uvidíte je, jak skáčete do záchranného modulu, a nad vámi ve vesmíru vybuchuje vesmírná loď. S nějakým tím kodrcáním a železným plátem přímo do hlavy, vám cestování na mořskou planetu pod vámi rychle uteče. Po probuzení se vám naskytne nádherný pohled na rozsáhlé moře široko daleko a obrovskou poškozenou loď, která to zapíchla kousek od vás. Přesně tak nějak začíná tato hra. Co se stane dál, je jen a jen na vás. Taky na tom zda jste zvolili survival mode anebo klasiku. V survival modu se musíte starat jak o hlad, tak o tekutiny. Nejsem takový hardcore hráč abych si to zvolil, takže klasika pro mě. Pravda, chvíli jsem to zkusil, ale hratelnost mi přišla docela frustrující a vůbec jsem si neužíval vše okolo.

    Pocit průzkumu na neznámé planetě je tu úžasný. Bádání do hlubin moře bylo dech beroucí. V moři se toho nachází strašně mnoho, ať už se jedná o velké kusy vaší lodi, které fungují jako takové malé puzzle hry, nebo všemožné jeskynní systémy a unikátnosti. Hned po pár hodinách hraní navíc zjistíte, že nejste prvním návštěvníkem na této planetě a vše se začne parádně komplikovat. Tyhle pocity tahle hra zvládá naprosto dokonale. Každou chvíli se vydáte nějakým směrem, jenom proto, že to tam vypadá zajímavě. Příběh je obrovským tahoune celé hry. Více detailu k němu psát nechci, protože jeho rozkrývání patří k tomu nejlepšímu. Hra vám neřekne, co máte dělat a kam jít. Jistým způsobem vás samozřejmě vede (rádio, nalezené zprávy posádky) ale párkrát jsem překročil takovou tu únosnou časovou mez, kdy jsem nemohl přijít na to, co dál.

    Na začátku začínáte s holým zadkem, pardon, s neoprénem a musíte si vše pomalu vybudovat. Ve vašem záchranném modulu se nachází „Fabricator“ mašinka, která dle plánu může zpracovat materiál, který všude možně najdete, a dokáže vám z něho tvořit divy. Ať nářadí v podobě ručního skeneru, laserové řezačky, nebo podmořské výzkumné stanice. Tenhle progres je tu dávkován postupně a vždycky musíte najít potřebné plány (z vraků) a specifický materiál. Pak už si stačí postavit stanici, dok pro ponorku, bio reaktor, úložné prostory a mnoho dalšího. Hra umožňuje, mimo nutnost, postavit obrovské podmořské základny. Takže na Youtubu můžete najít budovatelské skvosty. Negativním prvkem byla správa surovin v inventáři. Je toho tolik, že musíte všechno nějak skladovat a následná práce s tím vším byla někdy frustrující a otravná. Okno pro tvoření věcí by zasloužilo předělat a dát tam možnosti záložek nebo filtrování. Od poloviny hry jsem totiž mohl tvořit tolik věcí, že jsem to, co jsem potřeboval, vždycky dlouho hledal.

    Vizuálně je hra nádherná, i jeskyně září barvami a životem. To samé mořské dno. Tohle všechno umocňuje výborná elektronická hudba. Když se začnete potápět do temnoty a najednou vám do toho začnou bušit parádní basy, tak máte srdce až v krku. Nebo když se vám pokusí natrhnout neoprén nějaká příšera. Vizuální zážitek kazí až technické zpracování, kdy textury a podmořské útvary, často doskakují, až když se k nim přiblížíte. Hru jsem hrál už ve finálním stavu, se všemi opravami a přesto se toto dělo. Takže bych to spíš už viděl na limitaci herního enginu, který už to lépe nebyl schopen zvládnout. Je to škoda. Bez doskakování a s větším dohledem, by hra byla vizuálně dokonalá.

    Za málo peněz obrovské množství muziky. Zatraceně atmosférické muziky. Trailer dokáže parádně navnadit.    … Expand

    Какая-то выживалка без сюжета не понятно что вообще делать просто выживать не интересно, в начале почти ни куда не сплавать так как кислород кончается каждые 30-45 секунд. Игра на любителя.

    Wordless, awesome gameplay, full-featured exploration, great soundtrack, very well-planned plot, this is a type of game that people love and are addicted to this game. ,it's something unique, something I've never felt so much pleasure in playing, just amazing.Congratulations to the developers, this is something that I have the great and unique pleasure of calling a real game.

While the PS4 version was extremely frustrating because of poor optimization, on PC the bugs are minor. This review is heavily tilted in spite of these bugs because of my emotional response to the game.

    I really have to say this is, **in my opinion**, as near a perfect video game experience there is. I actually feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to play it. This game is beautiful. While I'm less a fan of the slight cartoony style, it works for this game. It feels authentic to me. I've never gone scuba diving, let along been on an alien planet, but this really captures the fantasy for me. The graphics, art, sound, and music are all breathtaking.

    While it can be gorgeous, it can also be terrifying. The depths can make one feel very vulnerable, surrounded by monsters, running out of air, and barely enough time to reach the surface for a breath of air.

    The UI is mercifully light weight, so easy to get into game and navigate menus. My only issue is that it's overly easy to drop things when using a controller (the button is the same as moving things to lockers and the muscle reflex makes me want to use the same button for using things when not interacting with lockers) but this is minor. I also don't really see the value in having such a limited number of quick slots but I'm sure there must have been a good reason for game balance.
    The sound design is incredible but one little detail I want to call out is how all the PDA sounds and dialog sound like they are being transmitted through glass. Just something I appreciated as an audiophile.

    The gameplay controls with a controller are really well thought out and nicely tuned, never once had an issue with controls other than screenshots being triggered by pressing both thumb sticks, so the clench response of terror causes my screenshot section of my PDA to be filled of crashfish explosions and leviathan mouths (just kidding, that's actually pretty awesome).

    Story wise, I love a game that can weave a story with an absolute minimum of cut scenes and expensive cinematics. I loved the story. I felt it in my heart, the ending, (no spoilers) made me smile so big and misty eyed, something I haven't felt from a game in a long time. I'm just a little dismayed that they went more heavy handed with story elements in the otherwise excellent sequel.

    Now I do wish they would work on achieving the same level of polish on the PS4 version, which is so riddled with bugs and crashes and slow saving, loading, and streaming that I was glad that I got it when it was free. On the other hand, it was promising enough that it made me buy it on Steam. I cannot recommend the PC version enough.

    El juego en si es bastante chill, un superviviente en un planeta lleno de agua que necesita recolectar recursos para sobrevivir, realmente es una premisa sencilla y la historia tampoco es que sea del todo compleja aunque si interesante, mi principal problema es con la optimizacion del juego, yo no tengo un PC de la Nasa pero si cuento con algo bastante decente, y por mas que intentaraEl juego en si es bastante chill, un superviviente en un planeta lleno de agua que necesita recolectar recursos para sobrevivir, realmente es una premisa sencilla y la historia tampoco es que sea del todo compleja aunque si interesante, mi principal problema es con la optimizacion del juego, yo no tengo un PC de la Nasa pero si cuento con algo bastante decente, y por mas que intentara configurar el juego para que la renderizacion fuera buena nunca lo logre, cosas que cargan en tu cara, peces y agua que atraviesan estructuras, y bugs con los vehiculos que los vuelve inaccesibles son algunos de los bugs que me hicieron dejar este juego despues de 20 horas, la exploracion es buena, las diversas especies de peces me parecen interesantes al igual que las diversas estructuras, pero sinceramente no se como puede funcionar asquerosamente mal, una lastima.… Expand

    It isn’t without performance hiccups, especially the deeper you go. But the breadth of content here and the open-world nature both in terms of playspace and just pure choice in how you go about it is something rarely seen in games.

    Subnautica is hands down the best survival game I have ever experienced. I completely lost track of time while playing it and for the first time in ages I rescheduled my appointments and neglected my responsibilities to spend more time with a game. If I could I would hand out free copies in the streets so as many people as possible can see how ridiculously good Subnautica is. [04/2018, p.62]

    A great game that took five years to make. Subnautica is an open sandbox sci-fi fantasy that can inch it's way into horror as you explore the depths of the ocean world. Just be ready to farm!
