With Stormgate launching in early access, there is always the chance that it will improve with sufficient development time. As it stands at release, however, it is difficult to see why an RTS player would pick Stormgate over more established competition. Its simplistic mechanics make matches grow boring quickly. Its story and world are so poorly developed that they are not even worth mentioning. With its heavily in-progress state, it seems better to wait and see if it improves before investing time in checking it out. [Early Access Review]

Stormgate’s early access hints at potential, but it’s clear that it’s not yet the revolutionary RTS some might have hoped for. The game shows promise with its gameplay foundation, but there’s still a lot of work needed to refine it. As it stands, it’s a game worth watching, but not one to jump into just yet. [Early Access Score = 30]

The arrival of Stormgate has reignited the RTS genre. However, as an Early Access title, the game still has some issues in terms of its art direction and pricing, which significantly impact the overall experience. [Early Access Provisional Score = 80]

Stormgate has the makings of a great RTS, but it needs a stronger identity of its own in its full release. [Early Access Review]

Stormgate is an interesting new entry in the RTS genre, and while its visuals might be divisive, the gameplay is definitely good enough to get both fans of the genre, as well as newcomers hooked. [Early Access Review Score = 80]
  6. At present, Stormgate is a potentially good game that makes a poor first impression. Six missions, only three of which are playable for free, makes neither a good campaign nor a good deal, while the game's most interesting factions are hidden away in the multiplayer, where you need to do a lot of on-the-spot learning to get the most out of them. All that said, I don't think it's a game anybody should write off. Behind its blandifying art style is a very tactically chewy strategy game. If you're a fan of the genre and have friends who are likewise, there's good fun to be had in its 1v1 multiplayer, which I should stress costs nothing to try out. [Early Access Review]

Stormgate seems like an interesting game, albeit one that has a bit of work to be done before it leaves Early Access. The game needs to work on its presentation of information, both visually and through in tutorial sources. It also could stand to bolster its factions with more unique and interesting designs, with the Infernal Host standing out as the most interesting of three otherwise bland factions.
