Stonewall Penitentiary offers an interactive thriller of murder and paranoia in an atmospheric setting filled with the tortured ghosts of its past. It looks fairly dated and certainly doesn’t tread any revolutionary new ground, but it succeeds at what it sets out to do: to be a satisfyingly entertaining experience from beginning to end.

First off, the graphics. They are bad. They range from uncanny valley bad, to just ugly. I can honestly say the only times I was creeped outFirst off, the graphics. They are bad. They range from uncanny valley bad, to just ugly. I can honestly say the only times I was creeped out during this game was random times when characters would appear on screen with the right combination of lifeless eyes and exaggerated expressions.

Now that I could definitely forgive if the story was any good. And while the plot overall is certainly intriguing the actual writing is awful. Characters are constantly over reacting and under reacting to all the things happening to them. As you examine things, your POV character often idly wonders about things much less interesting then what is actually going on int he game.

The pacing feel very slow. This is a game where it can take you an hour of your time to talk to all the characters trapped with you to tell them about a single event that happened (which of course is required to progress).

It also arbitrarily blocks your progress a lot. Like the time your character can't leave a room because he can "sense that he hasn't looked at everything yet". Whyyyyyyyy.
