Fun game. Glad to see it on steam. WoWs and this game are tied if not the same game.
Very balaced as well. Every ship has something its good at. For example battle ships are strong vs a cruiser

The initial faction selection process is relatively unguided. At the time of commencement, I hadn't understood how to select your decided faction, and ended up playing Japan. As a Former US Navy sailor who was stationed in Pearl Harbor, this was rather irritating. but it is just a game.

The tutorials leave something to be desired. For example, there wasn't, initially, any explanation as to how to pilot the vessel, and I was trying to do it all through WASD. It wasn't until the 3rd tutorial that it was conveyed that pressing F11 brought up the button mapping menu. It was then nice to be able to set a speed and not have to hold down "W" all the time to go. Note: "R" and "F" adjust the speed in 25% increments.

The merit awards, gold, silver and EXP relationships are still foggy, but I've finally determined how to assign officers to the ship's stations. On the upside, should you swap ships, you only have to assign the officers once per ship. If you swap ships back and forth (playing a DD on a mission, versus a BB), the assignments stay.

In training, you are against bots (PvE), but beyond that, it is all PvP, which is a good thing.

Overall, gameplay is fun, engaging and provides great entertainment. The Administrative stuff (buying, assigning crew, tutorials, resupply) is clunky and in need of streamlining.

Steel Ocean is a really solid game and I would have spent much more time with it in a universe devoid of World of Warships. [02/2016, p.56]
