    First the positives:
    1. it can be played as a web browser game or as a game.
    2. Graphics are pretty decent for a web browser game deisgned in 2017. 3. Unlike other io games, each match has a start and an end. Now the negatives, where do I start? 1. Now the negatives, where do I start?
    1. Most mods are unplayable, either due to difficulty, or to other players teaming up in solo games. The next points will cover Team Mode, which is the most played.
    2. Each team match has THREE teams instead fighting instead of two. This creates a chaotic dynamic where if the two other teams attack your base, you are screwed. It also creates a schizophrenic teamplay, because one part of your team will go to attack one base, and one part the other. Which could be avoided if there was some sort of in-game chat. Which leads me to item 3.
    3. In a game where teamplay is essential, there is no way to communicate, other than using lame predefined 1-word messages like "attack" "follow" "gg".
    4. The ship evolution tree is chaotic, you go from a tier-3 ship that has high speed and low fire power, to a tier-4 where you have high fire power and low speed, then in the next tier you have again a ship that is slow but has high firepower.
    5. Navigation controls are crappy, counterintuitive, and make it difficult to engage in combat successfully.
    6. Regardless of your ship or your prowess, in most cases you will die if you are confronted with three or more enemies simultaneously. Individual dogfighting is heavily punished, and if you attack in group you will mostly have the kill taken away from you by another team mate.
    7. Space stations have power shields that can only be affected by top tier ships. Which makes it pointless to attack them with anything lower than a tier 6 ship. Which could be solved if there were some heavy weapons that low-tier ships could buy to have their say in the game. Which leads me to the next point.
    8. Most effective weapon against space stations are torpedos, each of which costs almost the same amount you need to move from tier 6 a top tier ship. Heavy mines have a similar problem.

All this creates a bottle neck in Team mode where unless you become quickly a tier 5 ship, you will be hopelessly brutalized. The safe bet would be to mine and build yourself up, but the problem is that this is a fighting game, not a mining game. So either you choose to avoid combat and end up being a miner for the fast climbers of your team, or you get killed until you quit.

Starblast is a simple yet solid game. The game has some flaws that should be polished in the future, but the fans of the genre are going to enjoy this new game by Neuronality.
