Title: Star Wars: The Old Republic - A Mixed Galactic Adventure

    Rating: 5/10

Star Wars: The Old Republic offers players a mixed journey through the expansive Star Wars universe. The game starts off on a promising note, with its first planet drawing players into its immersive world. However, as the story progresses, the game struggles to maintain its initial allure, leaving players to grapple with a sense of monotony and repetition.

The initial planet experience is undeniably captivating, presenting a well-crafted environment that resonates with the Star Wars lore. Unfortunately, as players venture beyond this captivating introduction, the game's momentum begins to wane. The storytelling loses its grip, and the subsequent planets fail to capture the same level of engagement, ultimately leading to a sense of weariness.

The core issue arises when players complete the storylines for the classes wielding lightsabers, a pinnacle of Star Wars mythology. At this point, the game's shortcomings become apparent. A feeling of redundancy sets in, as players find themselves traversing vast landscapes without much fresh content to explore. This repetitiveness can be attributed to limitations in game development that prevent the inclusion of more diverse and engaging content.

In a universe as rich and dynamic as Star Wars, the expectation for a game to provide consistently captivating content is high. Regrettably, Star Wars: The Old Republic struggles to meet these expectations, resulting in an experience that feels unnecessarily elongated due to the repetitive nature of the quests and activities.

Despite its potential, Star Wars: The Old Republic ultimately falls short of delivering a consistently engaging experience. While the initial planet showcases the game's potential, the lackluster progression and repetitiveness that follow hinder its overall appeal. For fans seeking a comprehensive and immersive Star Wars gaming experience, this title may leave them feeling unfulfilled due to its shortcomings in sustaining excitement beyond the introductory stages.

SWTOR is a good game considering when it was released. The stories are fun but some side quests contradict the main quest (Planet Hott). There 8 chapters for 9 classes (I think), and each classes play a slight different story. The amount of content is enormous. I play this purely in solo mode and there is so many systems that, I am overwhelmed. I don't do any timing/daily/weekly quest. ISWTOR is a good game considering when it was released. I don't do those horrible subquest that have no saving point, and last more then an hour or so (stupid decision). I try the space fighting but it's just point and shoot.

The fighting is fun, at least in terms of getting slowly some new moves. But it is very repetitive. The graphics feels washed up and old. Reshade with sharpen/lumen did the job visually. A lot of loots. Although the integration of crafting/upgrading feels really disjointed. You get a Stronghold but it's purpose seems to be for vanity and decoration. You can invite people I suppose. So, all those system seems like they were put one over the other, and it's difficult to manage at times. I like the creatures, the races, the planets and ships. The environments are nice but I would have like weather in them. The sounds and music are great. I give it 75% because it is still a fun experience, even in single player. But I am afraid, I will loose interest well before the ending of my first play through.

Update: Downgrade to 6, because the main story obligates you to do a flashpoint. Flashpoint are horrible, no saving, hours without interruption. I don't have infinite time to play games.

I have been playing this game since neaqr launch, it has grown so much in terms of content and is by far imo the best mmorpg out there, a healthy RP base and PVP base, some great guilds , a non toxic gen player base.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game that takes players on an immersive journey through the Star Wars universe. As a player, you have the chance to choose your own path and become a hero or villain, with your choices impacting the course of the game.

One of the things that sets The Old Republic apart from other MMORPGs is its rich and detailed storytelling. The game features fully voiced dialogue for all characters, which really helps bring the world to life and makes you feel like you're a part of the action. Each character has their own unique story, and the choices you make throughout the game can have lasting consequences.

The gameplay in The Old Republic is also top-notch. There are eight different classes to choose from, each with their own unique abilities and playstyles. Whether you prefer ranged combat, melee combat, or healing/support roles, there's a class that will suit your playstyle.

Another great feature of The Old Republic is its focus on player choice. You can customize your character's appearance, choose their skills and abilities, and even make moral decisions that will affect your character's alignment and reputation. This gives players a sense of agency and ownership over their characters, which can be incredibly rewarding.

Overall, Star Wars: The Old Republic is a fantastic game that offers hours of immersive gameplay and storytelling. Whether you're a die-hard Star Wars fan or just looking for a great MMORPG, this game is definitely worth checking out.

This is definitely my favorite MMO. The story focuses on your character, not on some NPCs like in Warcraft. Unfortunately, this game has a lot less content than WoW. It loosely continues the story of the KotOR games, especially if you play as the Jedi Knight class.

KOTFE (as it's often referred to) made this game feel like a chore and feels unapologetic in wasting your time. The storyline is incredibly lazy. One of the few things this game had going for it was some of the writing, so that really hurts it. The writers never met a deus ex machina they didn't like. The gameplay is often plagued with poor pacing and glitchy interactions. Trash mob spawning is absolutely maddening and unnecessary. Character dialogue and growth is sometimes fine, but for the most part only fit for bad fanfiction. You can forget about making any hard choices or the few choices you do make mattering at all.

It's such a shame that so much Star Wars IP has been ruined by the desire for a quick buck. Add this to the list of wasted potential with The Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker, etc.

The gameworld is colorful and detailed, but this is offset by some of the ugliest character models and faces to ever plague an MMO. There's plenty of content and various things to do, but currently the whole game just feels like a platform for the Cartel Market (cash shop). The current content update being touted as an expansion is anything but an expansion, it is more like a teaser to eventual updates that overall amount to an expansion but have no business being called that with this staggered release of the content. The game engine is so heavily modified that is has constant issues and my bugs have not been fixed for years. They hyped up this "expansion", delayed the "expansion" and then released a piss poor amount of content and a Combat Styles upgrade that was underwhelming as can be. Underwhelming is a good term to describe this whole content update and what it does to the game. My sub will run out in March and I will never resub to this game, Bioware has killed it in my eyes. This game truly is the epitome of mediocrity. Of the eight storylines available, only two of them are actually well-written and engaging (Sith Warrior & Imperial Agent). Not to mention how it butchers the lore of previous entries in the Old Republic series in order to make the mediocre Jedi Knight storyline look more important. Aside from that, it's pretty much your basic MMO.

On official forum (where CAN'T write if not feeding EA w monthly sub) There's over 10x good Suggestions. Improving Galactic Starfighter, Many Day & Night Cycle Requests to bring more 'LIFE' (Many Mmo's have it) into SWTOR. Interactable Furniture to Hubs (Cantinas & Fleet).. Many Requests for both mini-games Dejarik & Pazaak. Mini-Games could be played in big Cantinas. SWG has them, but Neither in Swtor :( Swtor that's made to Outdated Hero Engine & still running on fumes when near Q4 2020. Much wanted Day & Night Cycle since 2012: Each planet to have their Lore-specific Day-Night cycle & each bogey to behave accordingly. Same with timed Vendors & or NPCs. Weather should influence Planets more often.
IMAGINE Raining in Nar Shaddaa & brings Blade Runner vibes. Sadly not there.. No Day & Night Cycle :( ESO, Wow & FFIXV has proper Weather & D&N Cycle. IF ONLY SWTOR had been made w CryEngine or Frostbite Game-Engine.. *Drools when thinks of images.*
Changes that DROVE Away Veterans w real Eyesight:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From 3.0 forward: Swtor's Skeleton Dev crew made Bad Development calls, slow pacing & no comms with their Customers :( (Sry player base) Command Lvls & RNG Grind.. Dumb moves to start Single Char's Storyline @mind numbing KOTFE & KOTET :/ Those Expansions w many chapters having mind seizures cause too many scripted parts where Sky Troopers jumping down. Just to be put down Fast. Y most plrs use OP Companion after Comps they turned Invincible :( Changes drove away Single Plr & Group Plrs. I'm one of Old School plrs who LOVED to Equip your comp. before got ruined to Terminator mode (tank, heal & dps) & their modding Vanished :( Eaware's Skeleton Crew at Meetup during pre 5.0 patching: - Let's give RNG to everything - Both PVE & PVP. What could possibly go wrong ? Was Sad to Witness.."
More DUMB Changes without Feedback Survey to Plrs:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I & hundreds of others got Attached to our Characters & their Respective Factions that we spent Years with. At mind numbing KOTFE all of that VANISHED cause of dumb Charles "sleeky smile" Boyd & his few Skeleton Devs working in HQ's Broom Closet :( REASON: A new totally Random & OP as He** Faction suddenly invades the Galaxy while our characters are in a Coma. Making the Jedi, Sith,Republic & every accomplishment our chars made completely pointless & irrelevant. In my eyes that made years of their writing Meaningless..
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Immersion breaking Cutscenes like DW Char uses only other weapon from 2x :o :( I can't recommend newcomers (New Souls to be Milked by EA) to Sub cause you can do all Storylines without Feeding EA. [Link omitted per site rules]

Years later and SWTOR has drastically improved. ---However so have other games. Despite my enjoyment of this game, and choosing to play it over others, I am lowering the score from an 8 to a high 7. It brings something to the MMORPG genre that others can't touch. That is the ability to play solo if you want to. There is a lot of content in this game that has been tailored to be able to be done in a group OR solo. The story quests are amazing as well. Better than some of the movies for sure. This game still has a lot of room for improvement, even on little things--like the fact that I had log in issues for a week because of a bug after an update. The game just doesn't have the money or support system like WoW, and I say WoW because I played WoW since their second expansion.-- So even though it's one of the more polished MMOs, it's still lacking. It's also F2P now, so even though they release new content, it comes out slowly, never in big expansions like with WoW. I feel, personally, the classes in SWTOR are more fun and unique to play than WoW, but content wise, WoW will always have WAY more things to do even if it is boring, tedious and grindy as hell. I still think SWTOR is a nice getaway for those maybe like me who play WoW but just get burnt out and want to do something different for awhile, but like something familiar. It's perfect. Not a replacement, but a temporary and nice change to visit now and again to switch things up. At least that's what I use it for and I enjoy it immensely.

Metacritic user reviews are a joke and should not be used as a tool to decide whether to watch/play/listen/etc anything. Its full of fanboys and trolls, and shouldn't be taken seriously at all. However...coming from someone that has played multiple MMO's like Guild Wars, Star Trek, DCUO, Rift, Age of Conan, and of course WoW (for 5 years)...etc...I suggest, if you have the money and it interests you...go buy it...I mean you spend 60 dollars on a console game that you can beat in a week...why not buy a game and play it for free for a month... If you're on the fence...wait for a free trial that I am sure Bioware will offer. AND...if you just are not interested, dont play, that's cool too...Its not a genre defining game like WoW...but it brings a lot of new aspects to the table as well as developers constantly stating they have more in development coming soon. I loved WoW...it is a great game...but for someone looking to move on from WoW but still have that familiarity, SWTOR is excellent.

This game has brought me an important insight. How does a game make you "feel" like a Jedi? And the answer was unexpected for me. It's the music. And this game delivers.
This is basically a game of two halves. One is a story driven RPG, one is an MMO. The story would have been a much better fit on a different type of game. It is good. I just know about the Jedi Consular and the Sith

I just know about the Jedi Consular and the Sith Inquisitor, and I feel they are both very adequate and satisfying. I imagine that's why you would play a Star Wars game. To be a Jedi. Or a Sith
The MMO part is simply not for me. It is very similar to WoW. While some details maybe felt better I think it was a mistake to try to combine these 2 games. You have to get through the gameplay to get to the story and it is hardly worth it. It was dated when it came out, I would prefer something forward looking

Somehow this made Star Wars shine in a light that you can just imagine being real and it inspires imagination in you in how much you want to be in THAT world. They are definitely onto something with the player makes the decisions for light and dark side and they don't hold back on the punches for either side. This game makes it seem like Star Wars is actually possible in some galaxy or universe and hopefully at some point this one. The story telling is delicious and for the time that this game came out, the best they could have done in syncing it with actual gameplay. I see the potential in this game and for the creators to take the perfect things of the game and will use it in the future for ever greater feeling for being apart of the world. Very fun to play stoned lol. Sure there are things I don't like about this game, for one the amount of grinding/ traveling back and forth for quests. But the reason this is so I suppose is to make the dialogue that much more enthralling somehow. I Hope that these guys continue making more of these Star Wars games because I never want it to end. I want to always have that power of actually turning and becoming a sith. The F2P is a bit restricted, but you do get 1-50, so basically all the class stories. Also, most of the time it doesn't even feel like a MMORPG.

Togruta(which do exists). Since i didnt wanna play basic human race thats just boring.

The combat is quite easy to learn, for starters i highly recommend you choose jedi since you can heal yourself.

I got to say that the some restrictions are unnecessary like why cant you say something in the forums without paying, and why are races restricted to f2p players compare to star trek online where you can choose so many races plus 3 payed ones(which is optional if you wanna get them)

But for the most part, the game is quite addictive.

(unnecessary) Even though im not the biggest star wars fan, I like it, but I hate when fanboys has to say stuff or just been critical annoying or else this franchise is in pretty trouble. But thats my opinion.

But what can you expect from EA? The problem with the game is that its boring, very slow pacing which seriously weakens the experience, this is Star Wars - its a fast paced universe, this game is exceptionally slow, and that isn't the lag either.... trust me, that lag is severely noticeable - and is perhaps the #1 reason for dying in the game.

Lets also talk about the bugs, its got issues. It took me the best part of an hour doing research, and editting the ini files just to get the game to run properly due to its infamous resolution bug.

Moving on they limit your inventory severely as well as giving you item rewards that you can't use because you aren't subscribed which wouldn't be that bad if they didn't give it to you and have it waste an inventory slot in the first place. There is just so much locked behind a paywall that it ruins the experience completely no matter how well voice acted or good the story is. The story is pretty okay and it's what all the people who pay flock to when someone complains about the **** the free to players have to go though. A game should earn its subscription and Star Wars The Old Republic has definitely not. There are much better selections however if you don't mind being completely restricted and just want story then go ahead however I would recommend Star Wars the Force Unleashed or any other Star Wars game instead.

It's also enjoyable to take part in if your co-opting with your friends, being able to participate in conversations with other players is certainly innovative. But... it's not perfect, and there are several parts of the game that leave me scratching my head, such as certain quest giving npcs which are solo/same class only, meaning your friends can't take part in the dialogue.

I play this as a Free-to-Play game, I'm not a subscriber. As a Free-to-Play game the restrictions are not heavy, if anything they are rather generous, with the max level you can reach being 50 for F2P (60 for subs). But perhaps the most criminal aspect of this game is their support for F2P players. There is no support for guys like me, even ones with preferred status (something you get when you buy off the market). I have never known a game to completely shut off any customer support to F2P players, and not just that, but to do it to even preferred status players. It's a complete joke and the only reason why I'm not giving this an 8. Bioware is not exactly known for its stellar support, nor is EA, but they've gone too far this time. Your pretty much screwed if you run into a bug, a technical issue or even have trouble logging in (something I've had).

A Mediocre Star Wars Game? sadly yes it's true, but it shouldn't be a surprise since it's an MMO. It's basically another watered down MMO with uninteresting characters plus it's single player is boring. The best part of this game was the CG trailers and that's saying something....

This game is at the same time grandiose in scale and vision, and the pinnacle of mediocrity in execution. It is truly one of a kind, and never shall anything quite like it be created ever again. To understand the peculiar way the stars aligned to make this game possible, let's recap the story of its creation:

In the beginning was the legendary Bioware game Knights Of The Old Republic (2003). This game was a fantastic achievement at the time, and it remains an enjoyable game to this day (if you can look past the parts that are a bit dated for obvious reasons).

Millions of fans wanted wanted more KOTOR, and another studio was tasked with creating a sequel. The sequel turned out good but not fantastic, and it clearly suffered from being forced out the door before it was ready. The dream of Bioware some day returning to give us a REAL sequel stayed alive in the hearts of fans for years.

Then WoW happened, and game developers saw that this new MMO thing could rake in money like there was no tomorrow. Everyone wanted a piece of that action! Bioware was no exception, and they knew you have to bet big to win big, so they gambled some serious BIG MONEY on their first MMO.

This was a project that couldn't afford to fail, so they did what people always do when failure isn't an option - they bet on what they perceive to be A Sure Thing (TM).

People LOVE WoW, people LOVE Star Wars, and people LOVE Knights Of The Old Republic too! Put these three things together, supercharge with stratospheric production value, and boom, WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?!!

Quite a lot, as things turned out...

The worst problem with SW:KOTOR, is that it feels forced as an MMO; it clearly has the soul of a single player game. The MMO aspects of the game simply aren't very impressive. And when judged as a single player game, it's unfortunately much worse than it could have been if it hadn't been forced into the MMO mold in the first place.

It's a BIG game though, all that money spent sure bought a metric F-ton of lovingly crafted content. But it's all MEDIOCRE! The story is mediocre, the gameplay is mediocre, the visuals are mediocre.

This can't really be blamed on lack of trying, the game oozes of love and care! It's clear everyone involved gave it their very best!

But they had too many checkboxes to tick, and the game is an Overconstrained Design as a result. They were tasked with creating something that was fully WoW *and* fully Star Wars *and* fully Knights Of The Old Republic, all at the same time. They were given the resources to pull it off, but were then clearly hampered with a risk averse leadership that wished to play it safe.

The result was a mess. And a surprisingly dull gaming experience. Players went into it expecting to have their minds blown, got disappointed, and quit. The scores of servers Bioware started out with were emptying out fast, and many players who wanted to play after all got stuck in ghost towns.

But Bioware refused to admit defeat, and took way too long to merge servers. When they finally did, it was more or less too late, the remaining population was low. Certainly far lower than they had hoped for at first.

Heads rolled, the team that created the game was replaced because "it takes a different skill set to run an MMO from creating one", as Bioware diplomatically put it. The new team set out to convert it to the free-to-play model to pull in more players. But they didn't want to lose the few subscribers they had, so they came up with a convoluted 3-tier hybrid pay model where you can play most of the game for free, but are nagged to subscribe and nickled-and-dimed for ridiculous little things like having to pay to hide your helmet (!).

All that said, the game isn't BAD, it's just not all that good either. And it needed it be AWESOME to live up to expectations from players and investors alike.

It has been polished and improved a lot over the years, and at this point it is without a doubt the finest free-to-play single-player "MMO" experience out there! If you want to waste some time grinding mobs mindlessly and being rewarded with snips of a little light heroic story, then this is your game! All for free!

I haven't actually paid a single cent for this game, but I have played three characters to level 50, and have three more at level 15 waiting to go when I have some time to waste. Tier 1 free-to-play players actually only get 2 character slots, but I preordered the game and ended up being registered as a former paying customer, which elevates me to tier 2. This in spite of the fact I canceled my preorder in disappointment after trying the early access...

Sometimes you only want to play a dumb bog-standard mob-grinding MMO to give your brain a break for an hour or two. This is just the game for it. It beats anything in the "market" for games you care enough to play once in a while, but not enough to actually pay for.

Which must be considered a colossal failure.

If you liked WoW but want something a little different with heavy emphasis on story this game is it. Companions are great, group dialog is cool (need more of it), solo story is great. Needs better character creation/options, fully fleshed out space combat/quests, and no queues. The real test will be if BW can continue to dole out content that keeps the end game going for PVE players (same with any other MMO, I don't PVP so I don't know what the state of that is).

I've played Guild Wars 2 for a few years now, along with the expansion Heart of Thorns. Decided to take a break from GW2 because the expansion felt like more of a job than a game. Wiping every event, boss, and even exploring became really tiresome. Still a good game, but I'm burnt out on GW2. I played PvE, WvW, and dungeons. Fractals were way too hard.

I played World of Warcraft to level 65 as a tank. Really enjoyed it. Stopped playing because I couldn't find a good guild, so most of the time I was soloing, except for dungeons. Never tried raids of PvP.

I'm enjoying this game a lot. The story, environments, and characters make the game really immersive. This game is great for players like me who are casual most of the time, but still want to play dungeons, raids, and PvP when they choose. I've found that players are easy to group-up with for doing story missions, or world bosses.

I don't know how to describe it, but this is my kind of MMORPG. It's fun and relaxing to play. This game seems to be getting better and better with time.

Cons: As a subscriber there are very few cons, but some of the UI takes some time getting used to. I read reviews about server lag, but it has been pretty mild at this point. Mail should go right to the player instead of a mailbox; it's Star Wars. I wish they had a group finder for other aspects of the game, like PvE, but typing in chat isn't too bad.

I'll update my review as time goes on.

April 2016: This is one of my favorite games. At the end of Shadow or Reven and I'm having a great time. My favorite MMORPG. Thank you Bioware. Can't wait to try Knights of the Fallen Empire.

As for the story, there are so many plot holes it's ridiculous and some of the questlines and dialogue seem as if they were thought up on the spot.

Another thing that annoyed me with the story is that it's inconsistent when playing in groups. You can play parts together and it's all fun. Then on the next questline, one of you doesn't exist or you just can't complete the story together. (Revan xpac + KOTFE xpac)

Knights of The Fallen Empire- the new expansion, starts off very interesting and cleaner than any of the previous content, but it just seems to have dragged on and seems half packed with filler. There delivery and the content of the chapters really destroyed this expansion for me. It isn't even over and I'm bored. Too bored to finish it because I've quit. It's almost as if they run out of ideas for a chapter and say "Just throw more Skytroopers at them."

It seems like there's passionate people at Bioware trying to make a good game, but the result has been a contemptible money grab.

If you like micro transactions for bag space and action bars, this is the game for you.

Back in the day before a couple fairly major changes that other people have listed (crafting, unoriginal new quests, companion changes, and changes to multiplayer content), this game used to really hold my attention because of its original, unique story telling, especially the story quests for each individual character class (8 classes = 8 stories). Endgame content when level cap was 55 was pretty good too if you had a good guild to run with.

But after 4 years of playing this game, it's time to look for something new.

Also why does everyone complain about free-to-play so much. It's like someone giving you a free soda only to find that its a cheaper drink than what you would get normally. You literally paid 0$ for the game. If WOW gave a free to play but it gave restrictions like this would it "hurt" the game play? No because all the people who are paying have not had their game affected at all. As for the game play though, I do agree. It is kinda boring sometimes, but I never had a real problem with it entertaining me (Though that's probably just me). But the story is amazing. All the story quests are fully voiced and are really engaging. Hell even the flash points (or dungeons if your a wow player) are voiced and have a mini story in them (Most of the time). Anyway I recommend this game for its story.

Also on a side note if you don't know whether or not you want to get into it, play it. The free to play option is still there and at early levels it didn't really matter to me. once you feel you've played enough, then decide on whether or not to subscribe.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. SWTOR is slowly approaching the inevitable brick wall that will crash it. When the game first came out it was quite exciting. The story lines were great and fun to interact with, it had a very "Star Wars" feel to it...But, you quickly find out that it is a "once through" game.

No matter how many expansions or extra content they throw in, it is essentially nothing new at all to the game play. In order to advance through the new story content you must do the same thing you have done on everything else.... the same linear sequence of:
    1: Enter zone
2: Follow the limited path through the map
3: Kill the enemies placed directly in the path that are waiting for you
4: Kill the easy boss at the end of the path
5: Get the next quest in the story and repeat steps 1-4

In other words, the game does not offer anything new. Instead of adding innovative content....the developers instead tend to "change" the existing mechanics a little (changing the class tree, changing the abilities by removing some to add another, all of which causing you to have to re-spec your characters). New gear is added for the new levels which makes your old gear you spent a lot of time earning completely obsolete and not good enough for whatever new Ops or FP that came with new content....

The most recent expansion "The Fallen Empire" is a fun story to watch but just the same old mechanics... I was bored with it halfway through after spending 20mins per segment just killing things in the same fashion as I listed above.

The new major changes to companions, zones, crafting, and Flashpoints were all a real shocker to me. Your companions no longer benefit from gear stats. They really hold no diversity now as they all can play any role (Tank, Heals, Damage). The gear is now for looks only. This takes away from the diversity of your player as a whole. This change was made because the developers felt they were too overpowered and players were too easily completing content.... THAT is a huge slap in the face to the players. It makes most of the crafting worthless now.... Considering you can get your good gear from flashpoints and ops... it really makes crafting only for the high end mods you might get as a drop.

The game changes have forced the typical solo player into playing the boring daily quests and possibly a heroic 2 and solo flashpoint..... but the game has suddenly bottle-necked players into having to group to beat content. 2 players with their companions can't even attempt a hard mode flashpoint now without getting ripped to shreds...even with high end gear. Now you must find or wait for a 4 man group in order to play the content....

All in all.... the other reviews list the other issues and failures of SWTOR. The game is free to play....and after all these years playing it...I no longer feel it is worth $15 a month for the few extras I get being a subber..

All it will take is another MMO with potential to hit the market and I think this will kill SWTOR. Only the hardcore Star Wars fans will remain.... Players are ready for something else in a sense. Especially the PvP players....

It has awesome storyline for every class, and additional storyline for every planet and expansion, it has Starfighter PvP and Starship PvE, those Flashpoints(Dungeons) are real fun and character customization is nice, even if 70% things ingame are cosmetic.

Much improved since its release in 12/2011. Still don't think it's worst the monthly sub costs, but the f2p model is disgustingly limiting. If you want to get at least a decent experience out of the game, expect to shell out some money at some point.

One of the best MMO in the market. I guess I am over 1,000 hours of play and I own 8 characters. An awesome story-driven MMO, with PVE and PVP fights. Forget here to find hackers, you can play safe. Now it's also free-to-play. You have play it!!

I've had a great time with this game. Good story lines, great voice acting, fun pvp. I've given it up for awhile only to return and find more and more to do. The developers have put a lot of time into this game and supported it for years now. Highly recommended.

I agree with a lot of the others. It isn't a bad game. It has some strong points, but weak points pull the game down pretty hard. The gameplay is fun, but nothing special; the content is interesting, and the customization allows you to express yourself and feel unique from others of your same class/race.

Pros: * It has excellent story missions and the coherence of that story runs

The gameplay is fun, but nothing special; the content is interesting, and the customization allows you to express yourself and feel unique from others of your same class/race.

    Pros:
    * It has excellent story missions and the coherence of that story runs well all the way through the game.
    * The voice acting runs from pretty good to amazing in some places.
    * It has a pretty decent item appearance customization system.
    * It has an _excellent_ item modification system which allows you to keep your old gear up to date with your level.
    * A lot of effort was put into making the social aspect of the game accommodating with things like: the RNG cutscenes, the ability to join in on others story missions, granting access to your stronghold to friends, guild strongholds, and the hologram system which lets distant party members participate in quests cutscenes.

    Cons:
    * The game used to be better in the past, they've unfortunately followed the World of Warcraft model of simplifying their talent and ability system, which makes the whole thing feel.. uninspiring.
    * The customer service is really awful, the response times are absolutely terrible, and they seem to only be capable of very basic assistance, not to mention that they exclude a huge amount of their player base from the forum support.
    * Microtransactions. The game is riddled to hell with microtransactions. I half expect them to soon limit players to 1,000,000 steps a day, with a 40cc purchasable item to grant another million for that day. Seriously, even as a subscriber you are terribly limited from what would seem like basic functionality, and while you do get some coins from the monthly stipend and class story mission progression, it just isn't enough to sustain you unless you refrain from things like changing your characters hair color or style.

I honestly think that this would have been a highly enjoyable and popular game if the "Cartel Market" (in-game shop) were reigned in.

I do some searching on their website for a support ticket system, but that's only for subscribers. The customer support forum? Only for subscribers. I guess coming back wasn't really worth it after all. At least I saved $15.

If you are looking for a story based PVE game this is a good one. Each of the 8 base classes (4 Republic and 4 Empire) have their own story. The 8 story’s alone make it a worthwhile game to play. Fully voice acted make it a blast for anyone looking for an immersive game.

PVP is an exercise in futility, with the team with the most fotm classes winning. Bioware has no concept of class balance, and over nerf and over buff constantly. They use their own metrics instead of listening to their player base or even playing their own game.

This game has many rights, and many wrongs. The main issue is that it is not a typical MMO, where players focus on a single class and enjoy a single story. Unfortunately this was an over reach for bioware, resulting in some misguided decisions. The most interested parts of the lore are not explored enough, while the most basic parts are over explored.

Too many side quests, not enough end game content. PVP is sorely abandoned.

That being said it is by far one of the best MMO's you will find out there. It is far more interesting than WOW, and much more re-playable than ESO. The unique classes will keep you entertained as you learn how to play them all. It has by far the most original costumes than any MMO you will find. You will be able to make not one, but 8 distinct characters that are unique to you. This is a prime game for role players.

That being said, be warned of the community. Star Wars is a wide spread IP, and it draws both the experienced players and the newest of noobs. Expect drama in practically every community you meet, and expect role players to take themselves far too seriously. This is "Star Wars" and the ultimate nerd ego bolster, so the role players tend to be overly brutal in their treatment of other people and there is a lot of guild politics and bullying. There are the "loremaster" types who like to use their "expansive" knowledge of lore to justify god modding and metagaming. Don't fall for it. Walk away if someone makes you feel bad There are great role players in the game, you just have to find them. And if you do it will be one of the best role playing experiences you can have in any MMO.

If you love star wars you will love this game even with it's flaws. I have been a subbed player for almost 3 years now. I have leveled 10 characters, and have 12 more. I think it's possible this game could become the best MMO out there if bioware does their expansions right. We'll see.

I find that this game has way to much negative reviews, and I should say more like bashing and hate towards EA. For those who left in the beginnning I would tell you that going back is worth it, espacialy if you been planning to, I tried the F2P option first and it's way to limited espacialy if you were a playing sub before. So to all STAR WARS fans out there thinking about playing this game it is worth it, great story, good gameplay, ok graphics, good community ! I do recommend that you check on the forums or sites to see which servers are the most populated before creating a character ! Have fun ! Expand

If you are a fan of story in your video games, this is the single best MMORPG for you in particular. It weaves a strong narrative and compelling characters throughout the leveling experience and into many of the end-game areas and group encounters.

Most of the negative reviews here come from the state it released in - which had two glaring problems: [1] Not a lot of end-game content (the developers came out and admitted they thought it would take most players months to get to max-level, which they believed would give them time to release most of the end-game content in the first few patches without any harm done... it was almost cute in its naivete), and [2] lack of a group finder and some other 'basic' MMO features. (Some of the negative reviews also came from Star Wars Galaxies fans who are bitter over their Sandbox MMO closing down as this Themepark Star Wars MMO came out.)

Both of these problems have been rectified. There are multiple raids (called Operations in SWTOR), all of which have fun and engaging encounters, and most of the standard MMO features have been added - the biggest feature still missing is an in-game Guild Calendar. (I also wouldn't complain if they implemented Cross-Server queuing.)

The underlying gameplay design doesn't stray too far from WoW's basic formula, which will make the game particularly accessible to current or former fans of Blizzard's mega-hit. The biggest deviation is the presence of 'companions' - which basically function like combat pets. While you play through the leveling content, every class gets five unique companions specific to the story and gameplay of that class, plus one companion that is shared by all characters (a 'ship droid' which has a different name and appearance depending on which faction you play, but is functionally the same). Currently there are also two more shared companions that were added in Updates over the years, which can be unlocked on any character (one can be purchased, the other acquired by a unique quest chain). All these companions have their own personalities and back-stories, and add a wonderful amount of personality to the game.

New 'Content Updates' are released around every nine weeks, which add new Daily Areas (which usually continue the game's story the first time you play through them, before the quests become repeatable), small group PVE encounters (called 'Flashpoints' - equivalent to WoW's 'Dungeons'), instanced PVP maps (called 'Warzones'), reoccurring Events (some seasonal, like the X-mas themed 'Life Day', some that occur sporadically, and one that returns every month) or large group PVE instances (Operations, as mentioned above).

To date, there have also been two 'free expansions'. Galactic Starfighter, which added a PVP space dog-fighting minigame that is a lot of fun once you get over the initial hump of learning it (they admittedly need a better tutorial, but if you stick with it through the first couple frustrating attempts as you learn the ins and outs, then you will probably find it a rewarding, fun aspect of the game), and Galactic Strongholds, which added Player Housing and Guild Flagships to the game.

The game is not without its flaws. While new content comes out every two months or so, the pacing for individual types of content has sometimes left long gaps in between new Operations or Warzones, which can be frustrating to Raiders or PVPers (a current long gap between new Warzones shows that the developers still haven't quite gotten a handle on this issue). Most new Content Updates come with a few notable bugs which have to be worked out over the course of a few maintenance patches in the weeks that follow their release. And as mentioned above, the Free-to-Play model is pretty restrictive - there is no doubt the game is best enjoyed as a subscriber. But the good far outweighs the bad.

Despite the restrictiveness of the F2P mode, the Cash Shop has a lot to praise: the content is almost exclusively cosmetic or convenience items, so you won't be hobbled if you choose not to spend any money on the Shop. Almost all of the items from the Cash Shop can be traded or sold on the in-game auction house - allowing you to get most of them for credits (just expect the rarest items to fetch a hefty price if you go that route). And subscribers get around 500 free 'Cartel Coins' (the Cash Shop currency) each month, with an additional 100 Coins a month if you use the free Security Key app to secure your account (getting friends to subscribe through the Refer-A-Friend program and even completing some in-game achievements can also net you additional Coins without having to pay real money).

SWTOR is a Themepark game through and through, so Sandbox fans may not care for it, but if you enjoy solid storytelling, a great leveling experience, fun mini-games, and the Star Wars universe - this is a fantastic game!

Its 10, ignore everything else. You literally have nothing to lose by trying this game... all the pay for stuff you can get on the ah, even the packs... a lot of these reviews are from years ago and are at this point totally invalid. If you have been looking for a good game this is it. Its unbelievably good... maybe the most underrated game out there.

LucasArts generally exercised greater quality control of Star Wars games than most licensed properties receive, though that didn't necessarily translate into titles that were actually good. I've played a few other Star Wars games in the past, and while the SNES platformers were pretty good, this one is even better. Knights of the Old Republic may just be the best game in the franchise, and succeeds at being a top-tier RPG even if one has no interest in Star Wars. BioWare did the license proud.

I wound up bailing out on Star Wars: The Old Republic well before hitting the level cap, but not before digging into it more so than any other MMO I've played. Even if it is an unhappy marriage between two wildly different game types, the fact that it kept me hooked for so long at least counts for something.

A good game. It pays excellent homage to the film series (even though it's set before the movies), and is a really solid MMO.
