The ships are overly complicated in Star Citizen and the set up is intimidating. Playing it feels more like hard work. That's not to say I don't enjoy Star Citizen, it's the second best space sim in my opinion and there are aspects of it that are better than elite dangerous I love my persona and character development in Star Citizen as well as walking around my ship and the graphics are mind blowing. What I usually do is play Star Citizen for a few hours and when exhaustion sets in and I get tired of the bugs I switch to Elite Dangerous which feels more polished and way more chilled to play. But we really are spoiled brats when we get to play such amazing games and we fight over which is better. Play your favourite or play both and just be grateful you are born in a time that we can have such amazing experiences in video games. When I was a kid I used to fantasize about exploring space and having amazing adventures there. 10 year old me would have pissed his pants with excitement if he could have played either of these two games back then. The ability to interact with all objects, control panels, TV screens, food, weapons, tools etc... is incredible, each with multiple interactions in case you have them in your hand. The entire solar system is rendered in real time with a graphics that looks photorealistic, and once you enter the persistent universe / the game there will be no more loading for anything. It is possible to see planets millions of km away because they are physically present in the game at that distance they are not a skybox. It is possible to see the stations that orbit a planet from the surface of itself, also to see battles that happen in space always from the surface. This means that since the beginning of 2016, star citizen was the first and so far the only project to introduce a solar system rendered in real time that is not procedural, each planet is made properly by artists that make them unique and extremely detailed; and not even remotely comparable to small games like no man's sky and elite dangerous that make use of procedural systems and models for the creation and expansion of their world building which is the simplest methods for creating big open world sandboxes, an example is minecraft. However, this involves a repetition of the planets and places and above all constant loading of the textures over the distance in the game and instance loadings. Neither game supports the same systems that allow the star citizen engine (known as double-precision floating point for entities, instances and game physics) to move from one instance to another without any loading, such as switching from exploring the interior of a spaceship to first-person exploration in zero gravity in space to falling from space through the atmosphere on the surface of a planet. There is no game in the world that does what star citizen does in every respect. And despite being a game still in development, as of the writing of this review 08/05/2022, it is slowly making progress in improving performance and developing technologies that one day will solve network and desync problems, and allow to connect thousands of players on a single planet from all over the world. Nowadays most of the companies want to focus on free to play to easily earn by imitating already popular titles, and subsequently failing by making mediocre, inoriginal and incomplete games or videogame companies that exploit their past success to create identical games to the previous ones in which only the name on the cover changes. This leads to the fact that few companies want to commit to showing what current technology can do, star citizen and the people who are developing it is one of the few hopes that can prove what a new generation game really is and can do, that's why many believe in this project. Great game, unfinished and buggy but it has something special to its experience, especially with friends, co-op play inside the same ship or as a small fleet results in rather fun sessions. It has to address a bunch of its problems, performance, bugs, and missing mechanics/content but what it is right now more than pays back the 45$ price it costs to buy and play early.

This project is one of my favorites, indeed, no other game is as ambitious, the game has to date a hundred ships of all sizes, which can accommodate crews of 1 to 500 people. Dozens of planets and moons to explore. Several professions from the most calm like exploration to the most intense like bounty hunting where you have to hunt down real players who would have done illegal things, with some narrative part.
In addition, the game offers a mix between the piloting of ships and the FPS part (combat with weapons such as pistols, combat knives, shotguns, snipers).

In summary, this game is the most ambitious I've seen, offering countless professions, which will allow you not to be bored for a long time.
The bugs you may encounter in this Alpha are usually annoying the first time but avoidable afterwards, and are quickly corrected by the developers who listen to the community (which is rare for games of this magnitude).

Your choice to be a bounty hunter, delivery boy. merc, transporter, medical assistance provider opens up your choice of who you want to be in this massive star system. Committing crimes and offences can see you head hunted by other players for the bounty of your capture and land you in the game's prison, which opens up another aspect of the game. There you can either wait out your sentence in the prison yard; mine for minerals and earn your way to shorten your sentence time; or attempt to break out, finding yourself in a desolate land but free nonetheless. The only real negatives i have about this game is the bugs that kill you for no justifiable reason and you can lose what items you have on your persons, if you're in space or on a foreign planet away from the main cities. That and the learning curve on how things are done is a bit lengthy but the community is so quick to answer your questions in the chat it's not really an issue.
Don't listen to the negatives about the game being a scam. Yes it's been in alpha for this long but the last 6 months have made leaps and bounds forward and there's a tonne of bugs fixed from when I started. (I used to die walking down a few steps or exiting my starship or dropping a package or walking through a doorway. The rage.....but all that's fixed.)
People who paid for and play the game will validate that this game is the most impressive and immersive space sim out there and it shows it's costs through content and variety from the clothing stores, starship stores to the interactive dialogue with NPCs as you progress with certain factions' missions/jobs. The more you play the more you discover what the game holds. Try it for yourself and judge for yourself.
Don't listen to all the skeptics.

Or you can sit solo and go mining one evening when you just want some alone time.

The game and its community by all means isnt perfect but thats always the case with early access and it being an MMO, You will run into a lot of bugs, And there are some extremely toxic people, But there is almost always a work arround to the bugs, and if youre part of an org you can gang up against the toxic players and they soon shut up.

While my feelings about the monitisation is conflicted at best and the current state of the game, the biggest question is do i enjoy it, Most of the time yes i do, so heres my 1150 character review of the game.

And for the people who dont want to read through all that TLDR: Its a good game, If you find yourself a community to be a part of and if youre patient with bugs

I've been following SC development for 4 years now, and while I can't recommend this game to people that simply want to play something and are not interested in tech and/or gaming development, I can't blatantly say it's a scam. They've made impressive progress on many fronts, and the scale they're working at is unparalleled.

The reason this game is funded, even if it didn't have a stellar progress of development, is because the targeted audience fiercely wants this idea to be born. There is currently no other idea on the market that fits the vision of SC.

The community is one of the most mature you'll get, and is friendly. Did Chris Roberts inflate the promises for the game? Probably yes, and as all things in life he will pay in some way if this is such.
Still, the developers gathered for this project, and the progress I've observed until now are indicators of potential success.

Will this MMORPG succeed? I don't know. But this is not a released game and this is not a scam.

Star Citizen was 'pitched' as an extremely ambitious game that is no where close to fulfilling 5% of the promises Chris Roberts made about what the game was going to be and the features he said were going to be present.

The game is a train wreck I would say it plays like a pre alpha proof of concept or maybe a tech demo. It crashes all the time servers are desynced frame rates are bad even on high end systems and the AI is probably the worst I have ever seen and the game play is super shallow.

I'm gonna give it a 3 only because I think some people involved with the project probably actually tried to make a game but under Chris Roberts incompetence and nepotism this was impossible.

For people confused about how some people can score this a 10 and others score it so low there is a white knight cult that defends this game. They are anywhere from 1 - 40k sunk cost into this borderline ponzi scheme they don't really talk about that dirty little secret.

My suggestion to you a potential consumer of this game is wait for a free fly event and test the game for free yourself OR wait for the game to release and get into it then.

Its a big scam, the game is never going to release and they will just promise many features and ships and they are unable to delivery them. They claim that a ship takes them at least 1 year to deliver. This is completely outrageous. There is no galaxy to explore, just a couple of places to visit and that’s it.

I initially got into Star Citizen back around 2015 by way of the multicrew demo and videos by Scott Manley. At the time, I had the following gripes which put me off of it for a while:

    - Low FPS
    - Character movement felt like controlling a clunky marionette
    - Your character was as durable as wet paper
    - Not a whole lot to do, the most interesting piece of content was the private investigation mission where you move about in a derelict space station. That was the highlight of it for me at that time.
    - Arena Commander was fun, but got dull quickly and using my Aurora wasn't exactly satisfying

I drifted away and in 2016 I was linked to a video from MandaloreGaming about Star Citizen and its controversies. Suffice to say, I stopped paying attention to the project after that.

In 2021, roughly after the release of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, I got interested in Star Citizen again after someone from the Elite Dangerous community discord talked about how much it had changed. I downloaded it again and gave it a try.

My experience is summed up as follows:
    - Character movement feels awkward and it's easy to get stuck on terrain, which can crash the game
    - Frames in the range of 10 to 20 on average, below 10 in ArcCorp
    - Randomly dying while walking or running around
    - Elevators bugging out, including on the 890 jump mission
    - Rocks I mined getting stuck under the level geometry and the mining vacuum (the laser that sucks up the gems) not picking up rocks randomly
    - Combat A.I at Kareah and in bunkers on Hurston not actually reacting to me. I was able to basically just waltz up to them.
    - Ship randomly exploding on the launchpad.
    - Crashing after an hour or two of playtime, consistently

Eventually, I think in late May/early June, I was linked to the quotes album on the Star Citizen Refunds subreddit on Reddit. After that, I was linked to Sunk Cost Galaxy by BinkyAtx on YouTube.

Without going on a tangent, I will simply say that if you want to try it out do so on a Free Fly weekend. Just don't give this project any more money, because around half a billion dollars and a decade later it is still just a tech demo.
