philg.Sep 9, 2008This game installed a rootkit on my harddrive and i can't get rid of it, it only allows 3 installs so good luck to any gamer who regularly reinstalls their OS

JamesKlagstonSep 9, 2008Each stage of the game is boring.
-
-
ThomasG.Sep 9, 2008It looks nice but is only fun for small children - not what I was promised; many features missing.

JackR.Sep 9, 2008I have to agree with the consensus. This game sucks. I can't believe the arrogance of releasing a PC game in 2008 with WASD controls that does NOT let you reconfigure the keys and does NOT provide an invert mouse option. The control scheme is horrible and I spent all my time just trying to unintuitively learn how to move while being killed. What a stupid, stupid game.

WarwickMar 16, 2009So very... very boring. This is the proof that the official "Critics" play these games for 1 hour before reviewing. That's about all there is before it runs out of puff. Stop as soon as you're a tribe. Thereafter you Will lose the Will to live. Thanks Will. Yawn.

KevinMMar 23, 2009This game becomes incredibly repetative very quickly. Several of the stages of play resemble flash games you can play for free rather then any in depth kind of game play. The creature creator is neat but after that there is very little to do with your creations. I cant believe they are still charging full price for this game much less 20$ for a pack of new parts.

MartinG.Oct 12, 2008Spore had the potential to be so much, yet it turned into a linear, dull collection of uninteresting minigames tacked on to a marvellous creature editor. Still a fun game, at least until you've done everything once and it's just repetition, but at the end of the day, it's disappointment of the year 2008.

CharlieNov 24, 2008Its just bad versions of 5 mini games (only being better in the graphics, but that doesn't matter to me) and it quickly becomes boring and repetitive, and you'll never get an urge to go back on it, after a very short while. However, the creature and building creators are very interesting to play around with, and its for this reason that i'm going to give the game a 3.

zimkafilippovOct 13, 2008a total let down. the game is way too short and at the same time is extremely boring. i don't know if its worth the money, since i never paid for it. but, really, it's simply not worth your time of effort.
the game consists of several poorly designed mini-game-parodies-of-better-games. well, why pay for crap, when you can buy better original games? -

BSSep 11, 2008Terrible game after all the hype. Glad I pirated it first to check it out. Uninstalled after 3 hours.
-
-
MenzelSep 11, 2008The creator parts are really cool, unfortunately this is quickly killed by a lack of any real game to use them in. Every phase of "evolution" is like a watered down, badly done version of some other genre. I give the creation portion a 10, the rest of the game gets a 3.

AlexG.Sep 11, 2008Totally unfulfilling/nonexistent gameplay. No-brainer action mixed with level grinding. If you like that, this is your game. The Creature Creator is all very well but is pretty much irrelevant as all the important elements are either gone or reduced to simple stat-boosters; editing basically makes no difference to gameplay whatsoever.

HenrikASep 11, 2008This 2game" does'nt deliver nearly enough game. It all becomes one giant snooze fest even before you manage to play through it once. And I had such high hopes...
-
-
SamD.Sep 12, 2008Awful game, repetitive and uninspiring, without direction or cohesion. Draconian DRM.
-
-
DanPSep 12, 2008Such a huge disappointment. Just about as fun as watching paint dry. I found this game to be extremely easy and it doesn't seem to have any penalties for dieing or messing up. This game might be enjoyable for a 5 year old... Don't buy it! Do what I did and just download it for free off a torrent site. I swear you'll get bored of it within the first day of playing it.

GucioG.Sep 14, 2008DRM and a lot of wasted potential. Overhyped, overdumbed, lacking in every aspect. After the initial "wow" factor is gone, there is pretty much nothing left. Simply not enough game in this game.
-
-
JonathanS.Sep 14, 2008I've been looking forward to playing Spore for a very long time. I would've given it a 10, but I actually played it, and then I found out about the DRM restrictions. I really thought this would be a game for the players, but I guess money is more important. Good luck with the sales. I'm telling my friends to download it instead.

-
madlepSep 14, 2008This game and it's SecureROM virus kicked me in the nuts and stole my baby, then set my computer on fire. Say no to invasive DRM!
-
-
SamM.Sep 15, 2008Disappointing, not revolutionary and DRM is stupid. That's all I need to say.
-
-
AndreR.Sep 15, 2008Potential great game, tested it on a friends house and loved it, but DRM ruined it.
-
-
RatamaA.Sep 15, 2008Basically a watered down series of flash games, barely connected by your creature. There is little interconnectivity between them, every choice is mostly pointless come the next "game" in Spore. Ultimately kiddy-pool shallow, over hyped, over produced, but goddamn if it isn't gorgeous on a decent setup.

JerryS.Sep 15, 2008Wow, could the reaction to this game get any worse? I thought Black & White sucked, but this takes the new record for best POS from an overrated and singularly lucky designer: Congratulations!

LindaC.Sep 15, 2008I'm not sure why eveyone hates this game so much but I know why i do and I wanted to warn people. be careful, I couldn't install this until I replaced my cdrom drive. they're cheap now only cost $20 but boy was i disappointed when i finally got it working lol. Nvm
-
-
GregoryU.Sep 16, 2008Didnt know it contained DRM when the game was installed. DRM is like giving a car dealer the keys to your house when you buy their car. This Is why i uninstalled the game and tossed it in the fire.

-
VincentO'.Sep 16, 2008Professional reviewers appear to have been overawed by the marketing rather than the game play. In reality, it appears to be possible to experience the entire depth of the game in a single day's paying. All of the five mini games that make up this package are very heavily predirected with the no great mental engaugement required other than clicking as directed for as long as directed.
-
-
PatrickASep 16, 2008Failed to meet the hype. The stages zoom past, and really don't contain anything of value to pull over from stage to stage. Don't waste the $50. :-/

Jean-LucPicardSep 16, 2008As much as I really hate EA for making this game DRM and fail.......it's so fun to watch them ruin themselves completely. It's the most pirated game out there. And that's saying something since Stardock doesn't use any protection on their games at all. I purchased sins of a solar empire and I am glad I did. I will not be purchasing spore. :P

MichaelN.Sep 18, 2008So dumbed down, there's nothing to this game but the editors, and little to do with them until EA opens the faucet on the inevitable dribble of $30 expansion packs.

AugurDragonWolfSep 25, 2008The game its self is ok gets old fast IMHO but others may enjoy it longer. I ratted this game 0 because of the DRM. The 3 activation limit may be an issue for some and my not be for others but the secret installation of SecuROM to ring 0 allowing it to override your control of your hardware is totaly unacceptable!

J.C.Dec 24, 2009In all honesty, the biggest let down of a game in all of my years of gaming. Spore has nothing to do with what was promised. Avoid this if you're above 5 years of age.
-
-
JamesMDec 27, 2009Too many promises that were made were left unfulfilled by the core game. It simply doesn't live up to the hype. Even without the hype, it is a far cry from the standards I have for a Maxis or Will Wright game.

Feb 17, 2021It's fun for a few hours, but that's it. If EA would've stuck with the original, it would've still been popular today, but they wanted to dumb it down.

Play (Poland)How to design a game that spans from swimming in a drop of water to ruling the galaxy? Will Wright knows how: as simple as possible. Spore deserves success on "The Sims" scale. [Sept 2008]
-
Spore's triumph is painfully ironic. By setting out to instill a sense of wonderment at creation and the majesty of the universe, it's shown us that it's actually a lot more interesting to sit here at our computers and explore the contents of each other's brains. [October 2008, p.64]
-
Spore manages quite some feats – it's accessible for casual gamers, but at the same time so real and dynamic, able to offer hardcore gamers a demanding experience and, obviously, a more appealing one than in "The Sims".
