I will absolutely keep playing this and hope that the extortionate bundle deals are slimmed down price-wise and that the upcoming maps reintroduce some verticality, again. Beyond that and a pointless battle royale mode, it's easy to see that Slipgate 2 has managed to find its own groove despite basically just ripping off well-chosen parts from its competitors.

Splitgate 2 offers solid, fast-paced gameplay and intelligently encourages team play. The portal mechanic rewards intelligent play and opens up possibilities not seen in other shooters. The large selection of game modes might spread its community a little too thin in the long run, and may dilute the game's identity too much. In order to keep players engaged for the long haul, there need to be more unlockables, upgrades, some form of measurable progress. The upcoming ranked mode is a step in the right direction, but it likely won't appeal to less-competitive users.

Splitgate 2 is trying to stand on its own, though it’s still a bit unsteady on its feet. It currently lacks game modes, ranked matches, and a broader variety of maps. Even so, it already delivers a fun shooter experience where mowing down opponents at a fast pace and tactically using portals is genuinely satisfying. It’ll take some time for the game to find its full identity, but its core gameplay is already rock-solid.

While I wish that Splitgate 2 was a stronger, more confident evolution of the awesome concept presented in the first game, I can’t deny that I had some good fun just hopping in and shooting around for a few matches every night. Battle royale ultimately feels derivitave, but the modes I actually enjoed were able to scratch that FPS itch. I wish it was the kind of shooter that I could get completely lost in, but it’s not that. Still, it’s among the more interesting options in an arena shooter genre that’s pretty barren right now.

SplitGate 2 is, at best, a half-baked mix of better games. With a meager selection of classes, weak loadout variety, a forgettable battle royale mode, and even more battle pass slop, it’s a shooter that barely leaves an impression—let alone earns your time.

Splitgate 2 is a fine F2P time-waster, but its portals don't add much to the genre and its shooting is nothing special.
