Without a set of mock instruments, rhythm games don’t always capture the feel of musical performance. Spin Rhythm XD resists that trends with an innovative control scheme that might have your sliding mice or flicking the analog stick - providing a physicality that cadenced button tapping can lack. A 60-song EDM track list is a pleasant surprise given the asking price.

Spin Rhythm XD is built on a simple yet engaging novelty, one that lets you take reign and customize it to your needs and preferences. I could play for hours during an extremely atypical situation without issues and, most importantly, without feeling that the experience wasn't challenging or engaging enough. The versatility of the control schemes, accessibility options inside and outside VR, and a plethora of subtle changes at your disposal to personalize the look and feel of everything is a remarkable feat.

Spin Rhythm XD, with its tapping, flicking, and tracing mechanics, lowers that barrier of entry without dumbing down its design. Even though it involves far less of the button tapping that is the hallmark of other rhythm titles, it’s every bit as engaging as its contemporaries. If this is your first time playing a rhythm game, I’m envious. If you’re an old pro at them, get ready for something different but very enjoyable. [Early Access Impressions]
  2. Spin Rhythm XD is up there with the more interesting accessory-less rhythm games of recent years, earning a spot next to the likes of Thumper and the Amplitude reboot. If you’re eager to jump in, it’s very playable now despite only just releasing into Early Access.
