    Spec Ops: The Line starts out with what feels like any other shooter. Like a scene right out of Aladdin. Except the magic carpet is a helicopter, the singing is machine gun fire, and the whole new world is shooting other helicopters. What really threw me off is that your squad mates are actually interesting.     Spec Ops: The Line falls short in it's gameplay, although not entirely unoriginal (sand mechanics and fake grenades were interesting at least) feels generic and rough to play.

    Not the most refined 3rd person shooter, but it works. Have to mention the insane difficulty spikes that occur, on FUBAR difficulty setting game is just impossible to play when youre being thrown at with hordes of enemies in set piece moments, its pretty much means insta death. When it comes to using cover game depending on cover type wont allow you to stay long in it since some of it getsNot the most refined 3rd person shooter, but it works. When it comes to using cover game depending on cover type wont allow you to stay long in it since some of it gets destroyed or enemy rushes you, so you cant be lazy and do all the work from behind cover. Your AI squad mates are competent enough to stay in cover and take out enemies when under orders, but can struggle at times. Jaeger makes really good use of the UE3 and has made a very good looking and running game on the PC.

    Where this game really pulls ahead of other military shooters is its mature and pretty unique to the genre story. Deeper you go the more mind bending it gets with plot twists and turns. Saying more about it would spoil it.

    Easily can reccomend this for people who love a good story in a shooter over fancy gameplay mechanics.    … Expand

    I know I'm late after 7 years, but GOD DAAMN this is a good game.
    I'm giving it a 9 because gameplay wise is nothing special.
    Story wise on the other hand is amazing.
    This is a hidden gem, go play it.

    Great game. I liked it a lot when i played some years ago, and re-discovering it now in 4K.

    This game in 4K as absolutely amazing, is like having a new game for sure.

    Many people complain about the gameplay, that its generic and doesnt bring something else to the genre, but its absolutelly justificated to kill everyone in the stage because this game is about the repercussions of war and making the player feel like they are criminals and thats enough reason to let pass the lack of innovation.
    This game can seem a little expensive for a 7 hours experience and a multiplayer which no one is playing because is absolute trash, but i find myself repeating this game over and over again just for the story at the point that i have 50 hours of gameplay.
    If you think games should be respected and manufactured as art, this game is for you
    If not, you can still buy it because its fun to play and -at least on PC- has pretty good graphics and performance    … Expand

    This game is masterpiece. Absolutely one of the best stories that PC game have ever offered. It's so immersive, it's so damn good. Yes, there is some downsides - one of them is the gameplay, which personally for me isn't a problem actually, but for some people are, cause it's call of duty-ish (only in third person) gameplay, where your group of three people goes into the warzone, stands upThis game is masterpiece.     Length wise: it is pretty short. Playing on the normal difficulty I was able to beat it in 4 hours. Though it has some good replay value, with 4 different endings and plenty of choice driven sections. Additionally there are a small amount of collectibles that are worth searching for that add to the extremely interesting world Spec Ops has built.

    I would highly recommend picking this game up if you're even the slightest bit interested. A must buy if it's on sale. You are doing yourself a disservice by not playing this game.    … Expand

    When i was playing this game, it was just a normal game. But I kept observing the things written on the walls, the images and I knew there was something wrong there, but I did not know what it was. The gameplay is normal, is a good shooter. Graphics is good too, but the story... You MUST to play by the story, my friends.

The game play is your basic run and shoot ''COD'' style, the AI of your enemies is decent and the shooting is very fluid and solid.     I did not expect much from such a corridor shooter as this one, but surprisingly the game turned out to be very enjoyable in game-play, very interesting in it's history/plot, very beautiful in its surroundings of a sandy abandoned city... and very exciting and "deep" in that the few decisions made by the hero in the game, had very important sense, especially in the ending.

    With its pretty basic cover shooter mechanics this game would probably not have been as well received if it weren't for its amazing narrative. I don't want to say much on it cause of spoilers but the twists are really well thought out and the levels are really gorgeous even for today's standards. Something about the vast desert in the background brings feelings of awe

But these ways in which the game have aged are nothing, made irrelevant by the timeless power of a good narrative and superb storytelling.

    Spec Ops suffers from one of the most generic, boring game titles I have ever seen. When a friend first showed it to me, I thought it was a CoD knockoff, a typical US army shooting foreigners shebang (with added sand) and I dismissed it immediately. It was only years later after I started playing fps games and saw reviews praising the dark and complex narrative of Spec Ops that I returned to this game.

    I'm just consistently shocked by how much this game gets right. Everyone always talks about the amazing story and how the story is presented to the player (the perfect way: through gameplay and not through expositionary dialogue), but it's not just the story, the gameplay is hella fun too. The sand mechanics are a treat whenever they come up, and little touches, like when throwing a grenade onto sand creates a smoke screen with the sand, make all the difference. The squad management system is barebones at best but it adds a little bit of freshness to traditional fps gameplay, like when you are being heavily suppressed by a turret you can command your squad to take out the turret while remaining in safety.

    Playing this game now I'm saddened by how little it seems the game industry has learned from this game in the past 5+ years. It's a challenge to the industry, a challenge to Call of Duty and other mindless, borderline racist fps games, and clearly this challenge has gone unanswered, basically ignored. This game is a Call of Duty killer. It poses a question about the "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality that Call of Duty promotes.    … Expand

    First minutes I started playing this game I thought It was an obvious american propoganda game typical 2 humans and an african going to an impossible suicide mission.
    but I was wrong game is more complicated than that I feel like devs wanted to admit the crimes,holocaust made by USA in afghanistan but they were afraid so they created the classic idea that one Villain [who is the commander    First minutes I started playing this game I thought It was an obvious american propoganda game typical 2 humans and an african going to an impossible suicide mission.

    This could be one of the most underrated games! But this Third Person Shooter game has an amazing war story! I liked this game very much! I definitely recommend it! Nonetheless, keep in my mind that Spec Ops: The Line ends too quickly. 4hrs on record.

    A pesar de que el gameplay no es nada del otro mundo.
    En la dificultad en la que yo intente jugar, en una parte concreta de la historia. Me resultaba imposible seguir avanzando debido a que mis aliados se morían y tenia que ir a reanimarlos. Y cuando los reanimabas, te mataban, Los pesados parece que tragan balas y cuando juegas con sniper, la mirilla se queda    La historia es un Juegazo.
    A pesar de que el gameplay no es nada del otro mundo.

    Pero la historia y los giros de guion son increíbles.

    this game is often criticized for its gameplay but a lot of them somehow fail to realize that, well, that's kind of the point. the gameplay in this game is overall in a very strange spot. if you really look at the mechanics of this game, you can realize that the gameplay isn't bad but just very surreally empty. the mechanics are actually pretty interesting, and it's surprising how much ofthis game is often criticized for its gameplay but a lot of them somehow fail to realize that, well, that's kind of the point. the gameplay in this game is overall in a very strange spot. if you really look at the mechanics of this game, you can realize that the gameplay isn't bad but just very surreally empty. the mechanics are actually pretty interesting, and it's surprising how much of a difference a single well-placed frag can make a difference in a fire fight. but i think there's one thing that really makes this game feel so empty. specifically, imagine killing a guy in doom and then imagine killing a guy in spec ops. enemies in doom explode in the most gruesome way possible but enemies in this game just fall to the ground. there's no impact in shooting a gun nor is there impact in killing an enemy. just a loud scream and a fall to the ground. there's really no moment that makes you feel cool or like a hero, and for me honestly, that's the best part.… Expand

    This was a pretty good experience. The story is the most unique I've played in the military shooter genre. The actual combat however was just too basic. It wasn't bad, but it was just a little basic and generic. This game is still worth checking out.

Wouldve easily been 9 out of 10 but i want to be honest in reveiwing it. The graphics were very good back in the time when it was released. The controls and camera is very poor! During the campaign, the maps does gets repetitive at times but the story moreIt wouldve been a perfect Gears of War competitor in the war genre. Sadly, this game is so underrated that nobody expects a sequel. Wouldve easily been 9 out of 10 but i want to be honest in reveiwing it. The graphics were very good back in the time when it was released. The controls and camera is very poor! Dont expect it to be an over the top shooter with explosions everywhere because the story has bits of horror elements.     Great presentation. Dubai in itself is a wonderful setting that isn't even close to bland. The colors of the city really contrast nicely against the **** sandstorms looming presence. The real flesh and bones of the story are executed near flawlessly, and the character dynamics and the way the story progress is top notch.

    Gameplay is adequate, not too bad, not too good, just somewhere in the middle.

    All in all, a package with fantastic storytelling and presentation mildly hindered by its fourth wall jabs and dated gunplay.    … Expand

    Очень крутой шутер про безумие, плавно охватывающее людей в экстремальных условиях. Ожидал простенький шутан с сюжетом уровня фильмов категории Б, а получил очень крутую военную драму. Настоятельно рекомендую.

    The game has a story that really hits the points of the blurriness of morality when it comes to conflict or war. It sucked me in from the beginning, and hit me hard with some of the choices that you were lead to make during the story.

    Manoooooo que jogo incrível, no começo eu achei meio meh, mas meu, o jogo é espetacular, a história é ótima, os controles são legais, e os gráficos mesmo no low, são lindos, eu com certeza pagaria por isso!!

    Simply the best game of all time. Perfect story, very beautiful graphics, replay factor. This game is spectacular, an almost perfect game, the gameplay is fluid, the dubbing and acting are out of the curve, a game to stay in memory.

    Where is the love? I don't want to give a good story away, so I'll talk about what I liked. Graphics are good, but the story as mentioned is great! It definitely sucked me in and this was definitely a game for me to replay at least the end to get all the endings. I also think this game is a work of art.

    Так как сам геймплей ничего особо революционного не предлагает, играя на более низких уровнях, вы возможно заскучаете. Сам не знаю, так как играл только на высоком. А вот, что я могу гарантировать - это то, что вы куда лучше вольётесь в роль профессионального солдата и будете сидеть как на иголках во время напряжённых сражений, играя на соответсвующей.
    В своё время игра очень плохо окупилась и вы можете это исправить.

    Were it not for some technical issues and console-related shortcomings (gamepad controls and no anti-aliasing), Spec Ops: The Line would be one of the best games for 2012. But, things being as they are, it remains merely a diamond in the rough, destined for wicked crazy status within the following years. Definitely superior to the related series of Kane & Lynch, it proves that, with a steady vision and soul, a genre so clichéd like military shooters, can not only surprise us pleasantly, but totally overwhelm us.
