    Where is the love? I don't want to give a good story away, so I'll talk about what I liked. Graphics are good, but the story as mentioned is great! It definitely sucked me in and this was definitely a game for me to replay at least the end to get all the endings. I also think this game is a work of art.

    Так как сам геймплей ничего особо революционного не предлагает, играя на более низких уровнях, вы возможно заскучаете. Сам не знаю, так как играл только на высоком. А вот, что я могу гарантировать - это то, что вы куда лучше вольётесь в роль профессионального солдата и будете сидеть как на иголках во время напряжённых сражений, играя на соответсвующей.
    В своё время игра очень плохо окупилась и вы можете это исправить.

    A pesar de que el gameplay no es nada del otro mundo.
    En la dificultad en la que yo intente jugar, en una parte concreta de la historia. Me resultaba imposible seguir avanzando debido a que mis aliados se morían y tenia que ir a reanimarlos. Y cuando los reanimabas, te mataban, Los pesados parece que tragan balas y cuando juegas con sniper, la mirilla se queda    La historia es un Juegazo.

    Los pesados parece que tragan balas y cuando juegas con sniper, la mirilla se queda anclada a la altura del cuello y no puedes hacer flicks para tapear en la cabeza. Y para que la mirilla suba a la altura de la cabeza cuando se bloquea a la altura del cuello, tienes que hacer un gesto exagerado hacia arriba.
    Pero la historia y los giros de guion son increíbles.

Однако, справедливости ради, все эти проблемы связаны с геймплейной или технической точки зрения: шутерная механика взята просто из какого-нибудь Mass Effect, но при этом чувствуется даже хуже, ведь импакта от выстрелов нет; управление очень неудобное; моментами игра ударяется в сложность, из-заДа, конечно, если смотреть на этот проект в целом, то у него обнаружится КРАЙНЕ МНОГО проблем. Однако, справедливости ради, все эти проблемы связаны с геймплейной или технической точки зрения: шутерная механика взята просто из какого-нибудь Mass Effect, но при этом чувствуется даже хуже, ведь импакта от выстрелов нет; управление очень неудобное; моментами игра ударяется в сложность, из-за чего мне однажды пришлось сбавить на одну, потому что ну невозможно было пройти на максимальной. Технически игра крайне деревянная, а я в свою очередь хотел бросить ее почти сразу, ведь играть в недоделанный кусок, сами знаете чего, мне не очень-то и хотелось, но, даже на свое удивление, я продолжил играть в этот кривой кусок кода. В итоге получил игру, которую я никогда не забуду.
    Сюжет. Именно сюжет и нарратив является причиной всеобщей любви к этому проекту. Он настолько трогает, что никого не оставит равнодушным: множество моментов до сих пор находят отклик у меня в сердечке. Спойлерить я вообще не хочу, потому что я сам подходил к этому проекту, почти ничего не зная, по этой причине хотелось бы, чтобы и вы подошли нему так же. Нужно перетерпеть начало, чтобы насладиться концом (вообще там, даже не доходя до середины, уже становится крайне интересно, но не суть).    … Expand

    With its pretty basic cover shooter mechanics this game would probably not have been as well received if it weren't for its amazing narrative. I don't want to say much on it cause of spoilers but the twists are really well thought out and the levels are really gorgeous even for today's standards. Something about the vast desert in the background brings feelings of awe

    this game is often criticized for its gameplay but a lot of them somehow fail to realize that, well, that's kind of the point. the gameplay in this game is overall in a very strange spot. if you really look at the mechanics of this game, you can realize that the gameplay isn't bad but just very surreally empty. the mechanics are actually pretty interesting, and it's surprising how much ofthis game is often criticized for its gameplay but a lot of them somehow fail to realize that, well, that's kind of the point. the gameplay in this game is overall in a very strange spot. if you really look at the mechanics of this game, you can realize that the gameplay isn't bad but just very surreally empty. the mechanics are actually pretty interesting, and it's surprising how much of a difference a single well-placed frag can make a difference in a fire fight. but i think there's one thing that really makes this game feel so empty. specifically, imagine killing a guy in doom and then imagine killing a guy in spec ops. enemies in doom explode in the most gruesome way possible but enemies in this game just fall to the ground. there's no impact in shooting a gun nor is there impact in killing an enemy. just a loud scream and a fall to the ground. there's really no moment that makes you feel cool or like a hero, and for me honestly, that's the best part.… Expand

    This was a really incredible game which sadly shows the ''meat''on the bone in the last chapters but still allowing you to piece the entire story from the very beginning of the game( if you pay attention to the small details). The game play is your basic run and shoot ''COD'' style, the AI of your enemies is decent and the shooting is very fluid and solid. This is one of the rare few examples on how to make an amazing and beautiful game environment, everything looked amazing and I never knew that a destroyed full with sand Dubai can look so beautiful , every scenery just looks amazing and get's you hooked + it's masterfully crafted like **** should totally buy this game in full price since it's worth every buck , the only annoying parts were the rail way shooting segments and the non stop wave of enemies that get pretty boring after the first hour. 9/10… Expand

The game is playing on your feelings and tells us "Grey" morale.

The game is playing on your feelings and tells us "Grey" morale.
    So, why is it not 10? At first - this is a shooter and it was made very bad. The guns are like made from the plastic and you don't have any weapon recoil. Also, the gameplay is boring. All that you need - to shoot AIs that seldom do something stupid.

    This could be one of the most underrated games! But this Third Person Shooter game has an amazing war story! I liked this game very much! I definitely recommend it! Nonetheless, keep in my mind that Spec Ops: The Line ends too quickly. 4hrs on record.

    The game has a story that really hits the points of the blurriness of morality when it comes to conflict or war. It sucked me in from the beginning, and hit me hard with some of the choices that you were lead to make during the story.

    Dubai in itself is a wonderful setting that isn't even close to bland. The colors of the city really contrast nicely against the **** sandstorms looming presence. Probably the best looking Modern Combat setting I've seen, period.

    Story is excellent, though the fourth wall jabs that attempt to guilt trip the player in the loading screen are either frustrating or ironically hilarious. The real flesh and bones of the story are executed near flawlessly, and the character dynamics and the way the story progress is top notch.

    Gameplay is adequate, not too bad, not too good, just somewhere in the middle.

    All in all, a package with fantastic storytelling and presentation mildly hindered by its fourth wall jabs and dated gunplay.    … Expand

    It wouldve been a perfect Gears of War competitor in the war genre. Sadly, this game is so underrated that nobody expects a sequel. Wouldve easily been 9 out of 10 but i want to be honest in reveiwing it. The graphics were very good back in the time when it was released. The controls and camera is very poor! During the campaign, the maps does gets repetitive at times but the story moreIt wouldve been a perfect Gears of War competitor in the war genre.     This was a pretty good experience. The story is the most unique I've played in the military shooter genre. The actual combat however was just too basic. It wasn't bad, but it was just a little basic and generic. This game is still worth checking out.

    The game looks deeply at 'madness', 'violence' and really captures that feeling of disgust as you move through the crumbling city of Dubi, killing all that stands in your way to saving the civlilians, and evacuate the city? Your many objective isnt clear clear until the games final moments, where it the TWIST really saves what, very much on the surface, seemed like a very mediocre shooter.

    The saving grace of this game is it's Story and characters. The question it asks 'you' the player, how it makes you really question the importance of war and violence.

    Otherwise, the actual gameplay is like any Third-Person tactical shooter. It's not very unique or intresting honestly. You really are ONLY hear for the narritive.

    For it's price, and it's rather short length. Spec ops the line is defintely worth buying and playing. It's really nice and contained...its replay value is weak...but the story really sticks with you, and the visual display is also quite impressive. The setting is quite gorgeous.

    This game is absolutely spectacular. I am playing this in 2019 and I can't stress enough just how fun it is, how worthy an experience it remains to date. But these ways in which the game have aged are nothing, made irrelevant by the timeless power of a good narrative and superb storytelling.

    Spec Ops suffers from one of the most generic, boring game titles I have ever seen. When a friend first showed it to me, I thought it was a CoD knockoff, a typical US army shooting foreigners shebang (with added sand) and I dismissed it immediately. It was only years later after I started playing fps games and saw reviews praising the dark and complex narrative of Spec Ops that I returned to this game.

    I'm just consistently shocked by how much this game gets right. Everyone always talks about the amazing story and how the story is presented to the player (the perfect way: through gameplay and not through expositionary dialogue), but it's not just the story, the gameplay is hella fun too. The sand mechanics are a treat whenever they come up, and little touches, like when throwing a grenade onto sand creates a smoke screen with the sand, make all the difference. The squad management system is barebones at best but it adds a little bit of freshness to traditional fps gameplay, like when you are being heavily suppressed by a turret you can command your squad to take out the turret while remaining in safety.

    Playing this game now I'm saddened by how little it seems the game industry has learned from this game in the past 5+ years. It's a challenge to the industry, a challenge to Call of Duty and other mindless, borderline racist fps games, and clearly this challenge has gone unanswered, basically ignored. This game is a Call of Duty killer. It poses a question about the "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality that Call of Duty promotes.    … Expand

    I did not expect much from such a corridor shooter as this one, but surprisingly the game turned out to be very enjoyable in game-play, very interesting in it's history/plot, very beautiful in its surroundings of a sandy abandoned city... and very exciting and "deep" in that the few decisions made by the hero in the game, had very important sense, especially in the ending.

    It's a good full action shooter. Until the half it seems like an uninteresting story but after that it gets darker and darker, the artistic creativity gets better rand better, sometimes nearing a masterpiece. The apocalyptic desert setting is quite original actually. The gameplay is easy to learn but some fights are very difficult, there are lots of weapons.

    Barring intense moments of terrible gameplay like sticking to the wrong cover in a parking lot, Spec Ops was a great third person shooter with a memorable story.

    I know I'm late after 7 years, but GOD DAAMN this is a good game.
    I'm giving it a 9 because gameplay wise is nothing special.
    Story wise on the other hand is amazing.
    This is a hidden gem, go play it.

    Many people complain about the gameplay, that its generic and doesnt bring something else to the genre, but its absolutelly justificated to kill everyone in the stage because this game is about the repercussions of war and making the player feel like they are criminals and thats enough reason to let pass the lack of innovation.
    This game can seem a little expensive for a 7 hours experience and a multiplayer which no one is playing because is absolute trash, but i find myself repeating this game over and over again just for the story at the point that i have 50 hours of gameplay.
    If you think games should be respected and manufactured as art, this game is for you
    If not, you can still buy it because its fun to play and -at least on PC- has pretty good graphics and performance    … Expand

    Length wise: it is pretty short. Playing on the normal difficulty I was able to beat it in 4 hours. Though it has some good replay value, with 4 different endings and plenty of choice driven sections. Additionally there are a small amount of collectibles that are worth searching for that add to the extremely interesting world Spec Ops has built.

    I would highly recommend picking this game up if you're even the slightest bit interested. A must buy if it's on sale. You are doing yourself a disservice by not playing this game.    … Expand

    When i was playing this game, it was just a normal game. But I kept observing the things written on the walls, the images and I knew there was something wrong there, but I did not know what it was. The gameplay is normal, is a good shooter. Graphics is good too, but the story... You MUST to play by the story, my friends.

    Something that keeps Spec Ops fresh is the twists and turns the main character goes through, and the questions he's asking himself and you inevitably will be asking yourself nearing the twelfth chapter.

    The story is told through the perspective of a captain leading his squad of three on a rescue mission that quickly gets thrown off course and sets the mood for the rest of the game. The banter between the three characters is never really repetitive or annoying, but it gets to the point where you'd just like them to not have to comment on everything.

    The weapon selection isn't the greatest but I never found myself deviating far from the M4, as it was the most reliable (not that it would have really mattered), but if you do find yourself getting tired of using the same gun over and over, there is definitely a replacement just around the next corner, or checkpoint.

    The game play while not the best does a very stand up job keeping you satisfied with every click of the mouse, and every stroke of the keys (the key mapping was kind of terrible), I never once had trouble with the camera looking where I didn't want it, or my character going a way I didn't intend for him to go.

    while this game is short coming in with a whopping fifteen chapters, each being about twenty to forty minutes in length, this game is perfect for the price you'll find on steam during one of the many sales.    … Expand

    In a nutshell, it's a third-person shooter set in Dubaï that starts as your everday-shooter... and ends up being a political, social and cultural commentary on war, heroism and videogames - and this last one is the strongest achievement of Spec Ops: The Line.

    Both the gameplay and the story are in service of the theme of the game, obviously borrowed from Hearts of Darkness.

    Aside of the super-obvious sequences that puts the theme "in your face", I invite you to appreciate the more subtle work on the verticality of level design, the writing of the lines, and also the evolution of certains ingame mechanics.

    Great game. I liked it a lot when i played some years ago, and re-discovering it now in 4K.

    This game in 4K as absolutely amazing, is like having a new game for sure.

    The overall story arch and decisions this game forces you to make are brilliant. This is a great experience and it keeps you going through out. Couple of drawbacks, the game on PC is a fairly straight console port and that causes a few issues with controls and graphics. Gameplay is generic enough, enjoyable at times but nothing special. Still well worth it for the story.

    I just had to say that the depth in strory telling of this game is amazing. The reveals are the best i have seen even if the game play is so so. It is worth a quick play through just for the experiance as a whole. Watch a youtube video about the hidden meaning and it will blow your mind away!!! JUST DO IT!!!!!!

Jaeger makes really good use of the UE3 and has made a very good looking and running game on the PC.

    Where this game really pulls ahead of other military shooters is its mature and pretty unique to the genre story. Deeper you go the more mind bending it gets with plot twists and turns. Saying more about it would spoil it.

It begins exactly like a generic war on terror era third person shooter with americans as heroes rescuing. Then after 1 hour things get a little weird (and much more interesting than any game of this style), as the game narrative, in a terrific turn, starts to critize both senseless war and senseless killing modern video games.

    The icing on the cake is the Apocalypse Now-inspired storyline and the superb Dubai dystopian art style. The characters, the voice acting, the narrative are all among the smartest and the best in recent times, making Spec Ops: The Line (a reboot of an PS1 tactical game) even with its 4h and modest gameplay, an obligation to anyone who believes videogames can be important pieces of culture, critcizing not only society but its own medium    … Expand

    Were it not for some technical issues and console-related shortcomings (gamepad controls and no anti-aliasing), Spec Ops: The Line would be one of the best games for 2012. But, things being as they are, it remains merely a diamond in the rough, destined for wicked crazy status within the following years. Definitely superior to the related series of Kane & Lynch, it proves that, with a steady vision and soul, a genre so clichéd like military shooters, can not only surprise us pleasantly, but totally overwhelm us.
