Space Rangers 2 is one of those rare games that you don't just finish and stick on a shelf. Even after "beating" the game several times you're left with the feeling of having just scratched the surface.
-
An original and innovative game, but, more importantly, it is great fun. I’m not sure there is any game this year that I’ve had more fun with.
-
It's a little complicated to learn the control system but after a few hours it should be smooth sailing across the universe.
-
Computer Games MagazineThough it can be hard on a novice, Space Ranger 2's amazing breadth and considerable depth more than make up for its initial difficulty and intermittent lack of polish. [Nov 2005, p.74]
-
The freedom of movement may be a tribute to Elite, but strategy fans will be amused by the depth of the land battles, arcade freaks will complain that hyperspace is way too short, and adventure fans will have a condescending smile at most.
-
What they gave us is not just Baldur’s Gate in space; the core gameplay and thus subsequent gameplay elements are very different – making Space Rangers a unique experience.
-
If I were to describe this game in a single word, I would simple say, "Vast."
-
Space Rangers 2 has a ton of content on its own, is extremely replayable, and is one of the most addictive games in recent and nostalgic memory. If that weren’t enough, it includes Space Rangers 1 which is definable by the same list of attributes.
-
A relatively simple game with a silly name that manages to be fairly fun.
-
Space Rangers 2 combines an eclectic mix of commerce, action, and RTS-elements, along with a strong visual presence. With that being said, it may falter because it tries to do too many things, instead of one aspect really well.
-
What makes Space Rangers 2 so successful, even beyond its addictive “one more turn” exploration and trade, is that it delivers a constant stream of surprises.
-
The game takes a little while to get going, and the AI is practically non existent in the RTS sequences, but Space Rangers 2 is a game that I highly recommend if you're willing to invest the time.
-
It has its flaws, but Space Rangers 2 remains a crazy, inspired, over-the-top, and addictive blend of gameplay.
-
In the end, though the mini-games may have their flaws, the true beauty of Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators is how all of these disparate elements fit together into an almost seamless whole. The more the player gets into the Space Rangers universe, the more enjoyable the whole thing becomes.
-
Few games attempt as much and succeed as completely.
-
There’s a ton of things to do but don’t give up on it too early. It may take a couple of times playing before the full scope and possibilities of the game is clear.
-
If you enjoy sci-fi strategy, or games similar to Pirate Hunter or Port Royale 2, this is a game that you need to try.
-
Imagination will always substitute for visual splendor if a story is told in a genius way, and Space Rangers 2 does exactly that. This is one for the record books, and simply must be played.
-
It’s a space sim, it’s a text based adventure, it’s a 3D shooter, and it’s a trading game. And it comes with the original game as well. A very impressive package with something for everybody.
-
It provides an amazing amount of freedom for players to explore, trade, fight, complete quests and more. But it could definitely stand from a little more structure to move players in the right direction.
-
Space Rangers isn’t going to blow you away, but it may just suck you up for a few long evenings.
-
While it’s not without some flaws, Space Rangers 2 is a lengthy, innovative experience that offers gamers the freedom to play the game the way they want to play it.
-
netjakNot only is the best game I've played this year...it probably just cracked my top 15 games of all time.
-
Graphics are not what make this game. But when you add on the addictive gameplay, easy controls, great storyline and replay value, you have one solid game.
-
PC FormatLike "Pirates!" in space, but not as good as that suggests. [Oct 2005, p.92]
-
PC GamerSpace Rangers 2 should have shipped with better documentation, and beating the game can prove difficult for new players, even on the easiest difficulty setting. But at 29 bucks(which includes the original
, a game that never shipped in the U.S.), it's the deal of the century. [July 2006, p.66] -
Pelit (Finland)Great storytelling, excellent gameplay and much to do and explore. You have got to love it. [Sept. 05]
-
Space Rangers 2 is enjoyable though not the most easily assessable game ever designed. If you’re willing to learn the nuances, you’ll discover a rich game with plenty to do from amassing large bases, to bribing officials, to playing delivery boy. You might just find yourself unable to let go.
-
It isn’t the most beautiful or best-sounding game out there, but it is one of the most diverse.
-
Despite its vast and seemingly bottomless variety, it feels like many mini-games of varying quality threaded together loosely around a hollow core. It aims high, but falls short and doesn't really excel in any of its many genres.
