This is definitely Diablo in space. That is, Diablo 1 pre-alpha. There is no RPG elements beyond choosing which points to spend amongst 4 stats. 1 of which only affects health/stamina pools. That leaves only strength for melee, dexterity for ranged weapons such as bows/slingshots, and intelligence to use ranged energy weapons. A staggering 3 classes, two of which are nearly identical for play. Not much replay value. The levels are not randomly generated. The monsters do not respawn (which limits the total amount of loot/money that can be acquired), and energy used for guns is also the players currency. All of which equals, again, to very limited replay value. Weapons are either melee or ranged. And all ranged weapons in the game shoot a different ball of (insert random color here). There is no AOE (area of effect) fireballs, chain lightning, fire wall, or anything intuitive that allow creative gameplay. Everything that shoots, will do so in a straight line that hits only one target at a time. Melee weapons are pretty much the same thing but with negligible range. They only difference in loot is x-y damage range and duration (which does not last long). Biochips are wearable equipment that gives access to minor spells like town portal, identify, to other things like teleport and flash. It adds a minor change to the banal hacking and slashing but can only be used sparringly due to the high cost of recharging. Interface is very poor. You cannot rebind any keys. Given that there is very little gameplay this becomes less of a problem. But it would be nice to have the option of switching weapons with a key rather than opening the inventory and dragging the item on your character. In addition, you have to manually click on anything you want to attack. Sometimes repeatedly, as you get stunned your character will stand there until you click again. There is no holding down the left/right mouse button and your character will continue to attack despite getting stunned/etc. This game demands a great deal from your wrist. This game is challenging due to the finite resources available to the player. There is a level of scrounging that adds to the atmosphere that I believe is intentional. But I am still highly suspicious of the glowing praise this game has received. So much so, that I was compelled to write a review that fit the game more accurately, in my humble opinion. There is nothing new to the genre here, the music is droning and befitting a generic title such as this, and the gameplay is lacking. Again, the replay value (if you can make it through once), is negligible. For a budget title, there are plenty others at the same price (Fate, Titan Quest) in the bargain bin that can do this type of game much better. Definitely, not worth the price and time spent. Expand

Started off a little confusing but once I got going I had a blast. Truly this game will not let me sleep! Environments they put on a space ship are wildly imaginative. Awsome weapons, lots of killing.

Funtastic. A bargain at twice the price. This game has everything that was promised on the back of the box. I am totally satisfied with the gameplay, the killing toys, the different species of aliens (what a surprise at the end, I was taken by complete surprise!) and the wonderful soundtrack.

This games deserves high marks in my books due to the way it takes Diablo into space with great success. It was like reliving the fun I had when I 1st started playing Diablo.

This is the best game for me in 2005. I enjoy all the game play, the idea of the space ship, the weapons, the soundtrack is perfect, the killing, it's crazy to only pay $20!

I was reading the comment about the guy who wrote a 2 for this game and I couldn't help it but to laugh! In his own words, he said this game was like Diablo, but in his review, he said it's nothing like Diablo, in terms of how he tried to compared the two games.
Any ways, i gave this game a 10 because it is different from Diablo. Yes, all Hack n Slash game nowadays uses

Any ways, i gave this game a 10 because it is different from Diablo. Yes, all Hack n Slash game nowadays uses Diablo style, but this game give you a spacey feeling when you are playing. The graphic is good the sound is decent, the game play, probably more than 100+ hours if you play it to the end.
You just have to try it yourself. Dont let people scare you off a decent game because you see a 2 in his review. Maybe that guy don't like Alien shooting games. I love them :) Just like StarCraft.

-by now you're getting further and further from the base, at which time you realize you have a run meter and you get tired quick. You have to STAND STILL to recover your meter! You read that correctly....you have to stand and do nothing for your run meter to recharge.

This game is pure fail. If you want a badass isometric game for free go get Path of Exile and love life again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Addicting, simple game with hours of gameplay.

For its very low price, Space Hack is a huge, huge game. It is a Diablo Clone but I don't mind that. I like mindless hack and slash games.

The story is a bit lame and cliché. Aliens have taken over the planets in the galaxy of men and you must kill them all, let no one live. You must also search for already dead colonist and solve a Scooby Doo betrayal investigation within the base.

Space Hack has nice graphics for the 2005 era and the music gives is a dark atmosphere.

You have your health bar and mana (energy) bar, just like in Diablo but the main difference here is that the energy is both currency and ammo for your ranged weapons. This is a cool design in my opinion.

Game play wise, you just hack and slash your way trough repetitive levels. I like the enemy counter that is displayed at every level to let you know how many poor aliens needs a good slaying.

There are some downsides to the game however. It is very unstable and crashes frequently. It also has a terrible frame rate.

Buying stuff from vendors is useless because you can always find better loot on the field of battle. The biggest problem is melee. It is suicide. Don’t do it, use your energy pistol and you will make it. For this reason and flaw, I can understand that not everyone is going to like this game, but for me, it made no difference.

The ending of this game holds my personal record for the worst ending ever.

But in conclusion, I recommend the game, it is very cheap, and for the price, you get a lot for it. Despite the technical issues, I really enjoyed playing this game. Just clear your mind and kill some monsters.

  1. Like a bad sci-fi version of "Diablo" or "Diablo 2" set in outer space. Unless you’re dying to spend hours on a Diablo throwback, it’s likely that you will think of Space Hack as just another hack and slash RPG arriving on the shelves a few years too late.
  2. The old-school gameplay aesthetics combined with the rich visual style make for a winning combination in my book and despite the minor issues, the game is ridiculously addictive.
  3. Space Hack brings the hack-and-slash genre back to its roots. There is never a dull moment as the character hacks, slashes, and shoots his way through alien hordes while trying to save the colonists living on the ship.
