Atlus knows how to create immersive play mechanisms. The battle system is addictive and profound, also the preparation for the battles was fun as usual. Some people compare it to the one of Persona 5 - it is similar only from bird's eye view - it is actually more complicated, and requires better team building abilities.

On the other hand story and characters are kinda boring - nothing

On the other hand story and characters are kinda boring - nothing special, just your average "save the world" plot - dialogues are monotonous, most of the time I just fast forwarded them. The music is cool, but there were not enough battle themes. I actually had to purchase a theme pack DLC to diversify combat.

Don't pay attention to the ridiculously picky reviews. If you want to get into another fun, extremely addictive, Atlas jrpg this is what you're looking for.

the game seemed great to me, intersting characters, plot and visual style - what else do you need? yes, not so much new has been added to the combat system, why try to fix something that already works?

If this was in the 90s or even 00s, this game would be portraied by everyone as absolute garbage. Absolute garbage plot and very lackluster gameplay. The only reason why this managed to get mixed rating is because people believe its justified to have this kind of crap just because of visuals and anime ****

The aesthetic of the game was the best part, the ambient sound of Hangout/City, the graphics and facial expressions were the best of MegaTen series. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. More derivative weeb garbage from a company that hit their peak almost 15 years ago. Once Kazuma Kaneko and Shigenori Soejima got pushed out because they wanted to keep Persona games dark so that they were more similar and faithful to mainline SMT, Atlus went to hell. More repetitive uwu for virgins who watch anime to escape from their mundane lives. This is a hard pass for anyone over the age of 16. Expand

The storylines, gameplay and attitude of JRPGs just do not hit anymore. That's all I could think about when playing this soulless, dumb, boring and mediocre game. Persona 5 was a rare treasure, and you should hold onto it as long as you can because it will not be bested anytime soon.

This game is great. The Vibe rocks, the pretitlescreen song opening slapps hard (And the in game music as well). I love the characters, Especially the MC Ringo, atlus should do non silent protags more often she was Great. And its the typical great Atlus turnbased combat, (Also the story is quite good as well.)

In my opinion Soul Hacker's 2 is done dirty with these scores. The game it's not perfect but because there is so much unnecessary hate for this title I will give it a 10/10 otherwise my score would have been a 8/10. I played Soul Hacker's 2 on my Steam Deck and having that game portable 60fps medium settings it's very, very nice. The story is well made with some nice plot twists. The main protagonist Ringo it's charming and not only because you see her back 90% of the time... The gameplay is what you would expect from a Atlus game, very well made and has Atlus written all over it. The game is around 40 hours + or - and I highly recommend going for the true ending, just look up a guide how to get there.

I think Soul Hacker's 2 it's a new fresh air from the usual Persona and SMT content we would get from Atlus and I very much appreciated it. If you like turn based JRPG's and you are a fan of Atlus IP's, this should be a no brainer.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. not a bad game, but a bad SMT game.

uninteresting characters (with lack of character conflict within the story), uncompelling story with decent ending, lack of demon summoning in a devil summoners game (WHY), don't like the route with demon negotiation that atlus went with. game felt too "anime" for my tastes. game took an interesting turn about halfway through, which they immediately backpedaled from. no routes (as far as i'm aware). had some fun playing the game, combat wasn't bad but wasn't SMT. missed a lot of the swag that the original Soul Hackers had with the futurepunk character designs and funky music, sacrificing them for AI: The Somnium Files-esque isometric aesthetic and boring droning ambient noise passing for background music. random encounters were generally monotonous, and plagued with the 3D JPRG "animations take way too long" and what should be a 30 second encounter takes 3 minutes, which adds up over 40 some odd hours. this leads me to the sabbath mechanic they used to replace the press turn mechanic most other SMT titles use. i'm not too attached to press turn, it would be a breath of fresh air to get something else, but sabbaths aren't the way in my opinion. the animation was cool the first couple times, and i like how it changes the fight background the more stacks you get, but the animation took too long and it going off every turn was kind of annoying. there were some interesting boss fights that were genuinely fun, didn't care for DLC storyline. personally had to mute voices everytime i went to fuse demons because it drove me absolutely insane hearing "ah, magnificent!" every half second.

even with these grievances, game wasn't bad on it's own merit, but as part of the SMT umbrella, felt a bit lackluster. would recommend to someone who wants a JRPG to play casually, but wasn't my favorite.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As I highly appreciate this title, I subscribed mainly to provide a counterbalance to the (legitimate) negative opinions.

My comment will be brief: I loved almost everything about it, but especially the fact that I felt represented as a 30+ year-old guy.

This is the first time in my experience that I encountered a game whose characters (in my opinion, excellently crafted) conveyed problems and feelings I can relate to at this stage in my life.

I believe this game revolves around relationships, both friendly and romantic, from an adult perspective, without the emphasis on family that Western games tend to have. (I'm generally uninterested in Western games, but that's another point.) It's a game with a narrative centered on friends and lovers, well-written and mature. The only character lacking in this regard is Arrow, I fear. But aside from him, the story is about characters and their loved ones, especially evident in the world-building and all the texts that appear during "social links" interactions.

The ending itself, with its significant lack of depth (probably rushed for budget reasons, as I can't think of another explanation for the criminally disregarded elements of the plot that don't receive resolution), tells a tender story of someone who wasn't emotionally ready to love.

This review primarily focuses on the writing, so it's time to mention the other pros:

+ The game system is very polished. The team behind Tokyo Mirage Session seems to excel in this field.
+ The Sabbath system might seem dull, but I spent the entire game strategizing when and with which variant to activate it to optimize combat – meaning it is meaningful. In other Megaten games, "all-out attack" and "extra turn" are merely things I aimed for but seldom used. They are a goal rather than a means, and I appreciate means in game design. That said, I'm not disparaging all-out attacks or extra turn mechanics; quite the opposite, I love them.
+ I personally think the soundtrack is great, but I understand that many may not share that sentiment.
+ As previously mentioned, the overall writing and characters.

    Cons:

    - Some elements of the story remain unresolved in the finale.
    - Three dungeons are essentially the same, and while I didn't find it unbearable, I didn't appreciate it either.

If you have the time and come across a good deal in the store, I recommend giving this title a chance.

As a hybrid between the occult and technology, Soul Hackers 2 boasts a unique world. The story, which depicts grown-up devil summoners, is its biggest appeal. In battles, powerful Sabbath attacks allow you to clean up all enemies with a single move, resulting in an exhilarating experience. That being said, the high encounter rate and overall tempo of battles do have pacing issues.

Soul Hackers 2 is a game that compares unfavorably to the recently released SMT V which I consider one of the series best. However, even when viewed on its own merits and nothing else, it falls far short of excellence due to its poor pacing, simplistic combat and endlessly dull dungeon crawling.

Despite the lackluster mechanics and dull dungeon design, Soul Hackers 2 still has plenty of sheen in its presentation and characters. Ringo is an intriguing protagonist surrounded by a roster of dynamic characters who will keep the player invested as they struggle to save this colorful, neon world. If nothing else, it will serve as a welcome primer to Atlus newcomers, or a welcome draught for those looking to slake their thirst after going through more accomplished ATLUS titles.
