    an instant classic that rivals Mario. I love his iconic looks and his edgy attitude, that's what makes sonic great. but what makes sonic more awesome is the speedy game play that you can run and jump up to ht the enemies. the creative level design never gets old. Super nintendo had the best 16 bit graphics of the fourth generation, but what the sega genesis had to offer, is the coloful artan instant classic that rivals Mario. Super nintendo had the best 16 bit graphics of the fourth generation, but what the sega genesis had to offer, is the coloful art deisgin(for example: green hill zone shows the ground with checkerboard like textures.)     Ah, this is where it all began. Sonic the Hedgehog is a true classic in the gaming market. With a blue hedgehog who goes fast, collects rings, and saves animals. I just wonder who was high enough to make this idea become a full working game. However, this game has some flaws when going fast in some levels. For example, Marble Zone and the Labyrinth Zone both force Sonic to go slow,Ah, this is where it all began. Sonic the Hedgehog is a true classic in the gaming market.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow, this game is overrated. I understand that this game went up against Mario back in the 90's and was the closest thing to beat it, however, the game today is just plain and simple BAD. I first played this game on my DSi in the Sonic Classic Collection and I could never get through Marble Zone. It wasn't until recently when I played it on the emulator on Steam with save states and rewinding where I could actually complete the game without wanting to throw my device out a Window.

    This game has 7 "Zones" which are levels split up into 3 stages (Final Zone only has one boss fight) and the goal is to play through the seven zones without getting a game over while also getting the 6 chaos emeralds. The first zone "Green Hill Zone" is easily the best zone, and it is also the first, hence why a lot of people probably think this game is still great! Because they revisit it by playing green hill zone and then not play afterwards and think the game is still fresh. Well, after Green Hill Zone you end up in "Marble Zone" which is one of the SLOWEST LEVELS EVER. For a Sonic game, I am expecting speed, momentum, and collecting a whole lotta rings. In Marble Zone however, you just stand there for half the time, literally. This isn't what sonic is supposed to be nor ever should it be. Then you go into spring yard zone and it is pretty drab, and then labyrinth zone. LABYRINTH ZONE IS TERRIBLE AS WELL. Have you ever played the water levels in Mario, Donkey Kong, or any other game? In those games, you can actually SWIM. In this game, water levels just mean that it is like any other level except you accelerate much slower, slip and slide around all over the place and constantly have to find bubbles so you can breathe. This isn't a unique game mechanic, this is one that slows the game down for no reason other than the fact that they couldn't make a good challenge that was actually fun. Now, once you get out of Labyrinth zone which is TERRIBLE, you move on to "Star Light Zone" and this is FINALLY a good zone. it definitely isn't as fun as Green Hill but it actually has momentum. Not to mention, it has the best boss fight of them all, which isn't saying much. Over all, this zone feels pretty good probably from the fact that in the past 3 zones, 2 of them were just WAY TOO SLOW. Then you go into Scrap Brain Zone which is fine for the first two stages, it has a lot of challenge but it is definitely a good challenge, but still hard. The third stage however is just another water level, and it isn't any better than Labyrinth Zone. Once you get to the end of Scrap Brain you then enter the final boss in "Final Zone" and it is just a guessing game with virtually no challenge, and it then ends there, and if you didn't collect all of the chaos emeralds (Which are pretty annoying to get) then you get the "bad ending" which is kind of different from the good ending.

    Final Thoughts: Overall, for a game that used to be considered a great classic, today, it is just not what sonic is at all. The fact that there are levels that have you wait for no reason are just terrible game design and since they are so slow, they feel like a much larger portion of the game making the over all experience tiring and boring. This game is WAY too much of an overrated game, and if you really want good classic sonic, how about playing Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Mania or even CD! This game may have done something in the past, but for today's standards, this game is just blown out of proportion from nostalgic people overpraising the game.

    Simple thoughts: Inconsistent level design, Good emulation, Weak bossfights, Great Music, Weak story, overrated game.    … Expand

    Sonic the Hedgehog is a pretty decent platformer which will challenge you a lot more than other platformers. With a decent visual setting, decent gameplay and an amazing soundtrack this game will drag you back in again for to replay its 21 levels that will make you think before you leap or if you are a daredevil to race around all the enemies and obstacles as a challenge.

"Sonic the Hedgehog" is a PC port of the wildly favorable Genesis/Mega Drive classic video game that launched a thousand fanbois to take on a nameless fat, Italian plumber over at Nintendo. Admirers of fast-pacedAh, Sonic. Simply put, an anthromorphic blue hedgehog with super-speed abilities. So why not make a game revolving around this character? SEGA did and the rest is history.     A classic and one of my childhood games. I've played it hundreds of times on a lot of different platforms. This game once rivaled the all-powerful Super Mario Bros. in the platform game genre. Today the game has aged in a very dignified way, still looking beautiful and with a stunning graphical appearance. I've always liked it the most in the series, perhaps because it was the first game IA classic and one of my childhood games. I've played it hundreds of times on a lot of different platforms. This game once rivaled the all-powerful Super Mario Bros. in the platform game genre.     Really hard and brutal game in the famous series. Green Hill Zone is the best level in the game. Marble Zone is brutal but well themed. Spring Yard Zone is weird. And Labyrinth Zone is just bad! The boss fights are really easy. Overall Sonic 1 is okay

    Un apartado audiovisual espectacular que hoy día me sigue pareciendo magnífico. Sin embargo, los juegos por aquel entonces tenían muchas carencias aun, que poco a poco se fueron subsanando, como es una historia digna o un diseño de niveles algo más ordenado.

    Игра удалась! Но.. Перепроходить игру ради сбора всех изумрудов и потом просто наблюдать чуть другую концовку.. Садизм!

    Its fine nothing amazing but yeah this started it all so i guess its important. Levels vary from great to **** to frustrating and boring. Bosses are meh and game is pretty short.

    Sonic the Hedgehog is a classic 16-bit game from Mega Drive. I liked the gameplay more than I thought i would. The soundtrack I thought could be a lot better. And the history doesn't matter.

    The most notable features of the game are how well it runs for a game of its time and its momentum mechanics. They're innovative and will go on to shape the series. This game still suffers from some unintentional issues with dying though and doesn't have many other notable mechanics, though being inventive nonetheless.

    Um clássico! Seu maior defeito está nos Special's Stage's que são difíceis e pode acabar tirando um pouco da diversão de correr livremente pelas fases sem medo de perder anéis.

    An amazing start to a video game franchise and a good port too, although not much story telling, the game is great for its speed. A must play for retro video game lovers

    Sonic 1 Was A Great Start To a franchise, but It Feels like 3 of the Levels are Great & the other 3 are OK but it's fun. The Music fits the game well, the bosses are good, and the special stages are Ok( I wish they control better.
