    It’s hard to stay immersed in the story, and the methods of solving the mandates become more like chores after awhile than fun things to do.

    The frustrating part, as in most adventure games, is that even if you've been a good detective and have read this plot like a book, you still have to slot the evidence exactly how the designers intended, which in this case is definitely not as satisfying as just taking in a good mystery novel.

    Basically, Sinking Island has nothing going for it. The mystery is boring, the puzzles don’t require any thought, the dialogue is astoundingly bad, and too many parts of the game seem like they were made on the cheap (for example, when you talk to people their lips don’t move).

    Welcome to one of the most boring artistic endeavours of our age. The murder mystery on a sinking island is solved by talking, looking and walking - mostly by walking. The island with all the clues and evidence will vanish under the waves in just seven hours, but for our bummy detective hero that's no reason to hurry. So he strolls endlessly through empty locations, and with just the pretty pictures to cheer you up, it's hard not to get bored to death on this Island of doctor Boreau. [Apr 2008]

    Плюсы:
    - Графически проект очень неплох - задники и фоновые картинки просто великолепны. И хотя со временем пейзажи унылого, тонущего острова    Плюсы:
    - Графически проект очень неплох - задники и фоновые картинки просто великолепны. И хотя со временем пейзажи унылого, тонущего острова приедаются, нельзя не отметить их привлекательность.
    - Звук в игре хорош. Фоновая музыка создает правильную атмосферу, то нагнетая обстановку, то успокаивая игрока. Персонажи озвучены великолепно - как в оригинальной версии, так и в локализации.
    - Перевод тоже выполнен отлично.

    Минусы:
    - диалогов много, они хорошо сыграны и озвучены, но уж слишком нудны и затянуты. Столь пространных обсуждений не было еще ни в одной игре. Спасает только возможность пропускать реплики.
    - персонажи. Эти квадратные и угловатые модели, эти кирпичные лица явно запомнятся надолго... А кошмарная мимика и жестикуляция - так тем более.
    - невозможно собрать всех "болванчиков" в одном месте. В течение первого дня, пока остров еще не начал тонуть, игроку предстоит наворачивать круг за кругом, собирая различные бесполезные отпечатки ног и пальцев и обсуждая каждую улику. На второй день станет проще - все скучкуются в отеле.
    - обилие пиксельхантинга. Это страшное, нудное и утомительное занятие отнимает час за часом. Если вы пропустите какую-то мелкую деталь, то в ряде ситуаций просто не сможете продолжить игру дальше.
    Вердикт: безусловно, Бенуа Сокаль создал хороший проект - игра интересна и захватывающа, хотя временами может приесться. Не стоит скрывать, до Syberia с великолепной Кейт Уолкер в главной роли Джеку Норму далеко. Как и всем остальным персонажам.    … Expand

Most of the puzzles make sense, at first, then you have to click everywhere to find what wasnt active the 20 frist time you get in that room, but is necessary the 21st !
    That is quite boring for this, and the speeches last for hours too.
    Benoit Sokal is used to provide us such long long long games, not because the plot is complex, but only because you have to walk hours in gigantic rooms, all looking like each other, to find a tiny objet that will be usefull.
    On the other hand, the story is quite good ... Predictible but good.    … Expand
