Quarter of side missions keeps yapping about racism and half of pairs you meet are lesbians. Really? Its like watching **** Errr... Netflix.)
So, if you dont mind wokeness, you will get a great (oldfashioned) game. If you do mind it, you will end up annoyed of how simpleminded the woke parts are.

A solid turn based RPG that ultimately failed to grab me in a number of ways. Both the characters and the plot and the gamplay just didn't work for me.

The quests start to loose focus and feel forgettable, even when the writing of them is good, because it just won't have a strong enough connection to the story. Then I hit a brick wall of a difficulty spike mission.

The first one felt more real, and had a better flow overall. I warn against the people who tell you to skip Shadowrun Returns, I think it is a good deal better than this one.

While Shadowrun Returns was too short and unpolished, Hong Kong is often criticized for an extensive narrative bias and reworked Matrix, Dragonfall has almost a perfect balance of lore, story and combat.

Story is closely intertwined with the events that are well-known to every Shadowrun fan, but at the same time the game tells the player everything he should know about common Shadowrun lore. This makes Dragonfall a perfect entry point into the vast Shadowrun community, covering both CRPG and board game.

Combat, while been criticized for its simplicity, is fairly competent. it is paying close attention to Shadowrun-specific features such as Matrix or different types of magic. Some combat situations are surprisingly well-thought and require harmonious team work – while your samurais throw some lead into enemies across the hall, shaman summons demons, and decker hacks enemy security system fighting ICs in virtual reality.

Overall, Shadowrun: Dragonfall is a pretty good game. If you like cyberpunk style (despite multiple fantasy tropes that is another Shadowrun feature), you shouldn't miss it.

I wish Harebrained Schemes would make another Shadowrun game in the same vein because the knocked it out of the park with this game!

Shadowrun: Dragonfall is good RPG with tactical turn-based combat. Story, dialogue choices and characters are very interesting, but combat - not so much. It's repetitive and a bit too easy, also team movement between locations in long fights is very clunky. Fortunately, combat encounters are not that frequent so they don't get too annoying.

I did some reading into the game before playing and the posts made it sound like the game is hard... it isnt and no, you dont need to be a great thinker to win.

For instance, you are not supposed to be able to kill the boss in the 1st level, and rather, you are supposed to wait a few turns and then run away. In my very 1st play-through, without even knowing how anything works aside from cover, I was able to take him down (he basically runs away)... I wasnt even trying... All I did was send continuously flank him and he went down fast. I used the summons on the tattoo guy and a drone for decoys. The next 5 missions were also a laugh when it came to combat as were the "matrix" missions. It felt like a game for kids. That said a few missions had no combat at all. Just talk to NPC A then do something at point B and talk to NPC C etc.

That said, they did try to write a good backstory to the NPC's though the plot was nothing special. That said I just couldnt get myself to play it after about 15 hours. Its just too easy, slow and boring. Some people compare this to old infinity engine games... it has no relation. I replay BG, NWN or PST every year (at least once with new mods usually using new builds). They are great and tons of fun. This is not at their level. Other compare it to XCOM and although combat is similar, its too limited. In XCOM you have a z-axis (height), and actual 3D (you can run behind cover in any angle). This game has a fixed camera thus you can only take cover in one angle. You also cant destroy cover as far as I can tell. So lets just call this a 90s XCom-lite style game.

I have completed this game twice, and loved it both times. Only reason I cannot give it 10/10 is because of the game-breaking bug which can be encountered during one of the final battles. There is a work-around, but it is disappointing that this has not yet been fixed.

Engaging, colourful characters are there, only more of them with more to them. In fact, there is more of everything in general : more quests (mostly optional,) more lore, more background life, a dog pet (bound to be a fan favourite,) more dialog options, and several skills are more useful.

At the end of the day however, it's the missions that improved most, in both quality and flavor. Some of these missions are really enjoyable, lively and memorable.

This fixes almost all of the problems found in Shadowrun Returns.
    * Dragonfall is significantly longer than Shadowrun Returns.
    * The combat is a more central part of the game.
    * The combat sequences are much longer, so they require some degree of strategy, but they are not too difficult.
    * Every type of character is useful. Deckers are useful. Melee characters are useful. Gun characters are useful. Magic users are useful. I'm going to play through this game multiple times with multiple different strategies.
    * I like all of the characters. Each one has their own personality and their own story.
    * The game has a lot of interesting moral choices. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but there was a mission where I changed my mind twice as the mission progressed.

I still have a few criticisms of the game.

I found it very difficult to keep track of who was who. The game is in Germany, so groups have German names. I can't remember what the group connected to the pay phone is called. Schadenfrazelpowerasdfasdf? There was a mission where I can either deliver a secret weapon to The Lodge or to some other guy that I can't remember the name of. This screws up the moral choice system because I don't fully understand what my choices are. It might help if the game had some kind of in-game reference as I met people, sort of like Assassin's Creed has. If I get a mission from some guy named Fred Fuchs, I could look it up in the reference to see a picture and maybe a paragraph about him.

The load times in this game are brutal. The game is much smaller than something like Fallout 4 or Skyrim, but the load times are much worse. It's a total mystery. Thankfully, scene changes don't happen too often for this to be a problem.

For example, why is it impossible to exchange items between party members? Why can't I enter turn-based mode at will? (To position and buff my team before starting the fight) Why can't I level up other team members the same way as the main character? (Instead of having the game do it for me) And so on. Every half-decent RPG I played, from Baldur's Gate to Dragon Age: Origins, has all of those features.

Also, I've encountered a number of bizzare issues affecting progress. For example, in the Loose Ends (medical facility raid), you're invited to lock out reinforcements, but doing so means the battle never ends (because enemy is detected behind the locked door) and it's impossible to progress in the mission. Or there is a switch which should be clickable but isn't. And so on.

There. I enjoyed Dragonfall A LOT at times, but at other times it's an exercise in frustration. So much that I decided to stop.
