This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall, Rollercoaster Tycoon is an excellent game with a few minor flaws that don't really detract too much from the overall experience. The late 90s isometric graphics have aged well. Even those used to more modern graphics will be satisfied with what they see here.

The best part of the game (for me, at least) is building massive roller coasters. It can be a bit cumbersome at first. You have to remember the little details like banking curves or else you will wind up with a ride that is extremely intense yet boring. Some of the coasters can be frustrating to build, like bobsleds and side-friction coasters, because they will crash if they go faster than a certain speed during a curve or going uphill. You can easily find them launching off the track. And even if you test them and everything runs smoothly, the weight added by the guests can be the difference between a safe ride and a disaster.

Other rides work as well. Some of them are simple with no special challenges whatsoever. just plop down that 3x3 or 4x4 square and add the line and exit path, and you're set. Others require a custom design, like log flumes and water slides.

With dozens of scenarios in the original game and the expansion packs, you won't run out of objectives for a long time. And then when you finally beat the games, you get nice bonuses, like the Mega Park, a huge park with tons of options and no scenario objective other than "Have fun!"

I recommend this game, especially on Steam.

But once you exit the game, make sure you right-click, or else your mouse won't click on anything. Something about how the game takes over the mouse causes modern Windows computers to fail to click until the user right-clicks.

This is the best sim series. Building, planning and creating an amusement park is hours of fun. I still play this game to this day.

Well...there was a time when games took several months to complete back in the 90's and early 00's. Today's games like Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City focus more on graphics than long game play. It really puts your graphic card to the test. RollerCoaster Tyccoon is so fun and very nostalgic and with the two expansions it only takes even longer to complete. Thank you for that.

I started playing this game on PC not so long ago for a really decent price. And what a rough strike ! Isometric graphics have aged really well. Colours are a bit ugly but the animations and overall visual effects are more than beautiful. Maps are varied, scenarios are fun and challenging, changes of weather are impressive as they bring a whole different atmosphere. Colours are a bit ugly but the animations and overall visual effects are more than beautiful. Maps are varied, scenarios are fun and challenging, changes of weather are impressive as they bring a whole different atmosphere. For a simulator, the tables and graphs are easily understandable. There are enough parameters to manage without having too many of them. The game has a perfectly balanced level of difficulty. The most important: rollercoasters are varied. You can modify and create several of them, even if some others are predefined. The feeling of opening a roller coaster that you have been laboriously editing for over thirty minutes is terrific. You can really feel the joy of the people who use it. And it goes the same when you create a themed area in your park, when you match the soundscape to the scenery, or when you place the one toilet at the entrance to your mile-long theme park. Because yes, 'RollerCoaster Tycoon' also allows you to legally torture your visitors and make them pay ice creams the same price as a wedding rings.

Anyway: hours of fun and pleasant discoveries with minor bugs. The major flow according to me was the camera angles. You can only see your amusement park from four different angles. And when you have bridges, subterranean areas and rollercoasters everywhere it can become hard to see what you want to. Definitely a must-play though ! This old game is perfectly functional on today's computers.

I only have good memories and nostalgic feelings about the first and second version of RollerCoaster Tycoon. I remember almost 20 year ago, when I use to pass by some game store and I always saw the RollerCoaster and I did not have money to buy it (I was child). So I had to content with the demo version.

After some years, I adquired a version from the internet and finally I could play.

Of course, this is not the best game ever made, but according to my feelings and hours that I use to spent in front of my first PC makes this game to be unforgettable to me.

Although the game is so old, it may garantees you many hours of fun.
