    After having played this on PC, I get why the initial batch of reviews for this game were mixed. With a mouse and keyboard, the controls feel natural. With a gamepad, aim assist is turned off by default and if you do choose to turn it on, it practically nerfs the most powerful weapon in the game. It's a shame because nobody plays co-op online -- and even if you do get a round going, I'veAfter having played this on PC, I get why the initial batch of reviews for this game were mixed. It's a shame because nobody plays co-op online -- and even if you do get a round going, I've heard the netcode isn't particularly good. Local play isn't bad, but it'd fare far better if aiming on a gamepad felt less awkward than it does. Regardless of how you play it, the co-op is absolutely the highlight of this game.

    In terms of the overall package, it's pretty good for ten bucks. I don't think it holds up quite as well as its predecessor, but that's because Rocketbirds 2 isn't aiming to be another Hardboiled Chicken. Hardboiled Chicken was an exercise in style over substance. It harkened back to a time when platformers had substance but they were all about their style. Rocketbirds 2 has some style, but I think it'd be an overstatement to say that that's why you should play it. Taking cues from what most players didn't like about the original, Ratloop Asia has put a lot more emphasis on substance here. Platforming no longer feels clunky, each jump feeling just light enough to be forgiving but having enough weight to it as to not feel floaty. Shooting has a lot more impact, and while enemies still feel like bullet sponges from time-to-time, the large variety of weapons means that the weapons sandbox is ten times more fleshed out than it was in the first game. Aside from gameplay, Rocketbirds 2 maintains the camp that defined the first game. The voice actor for Hardboiled has changed and, while that seems jarring at first, the guy who voiced him does an admirable job here. Where Rocketbirds 2 really differs from the original game is that it takes itself far less seriously. Where the original had cutscenes revealing how our main character had a very serious character arc, this game has a mech with a rocket launcher coming out of its crotch in the very first level. This may turn off those wanting a more in-depth look at the universe, but come on, how serious can you get with chickens fighting birds with guns? Another area of major change is the way maps are laid out. While levels are still somewhat linear, they're now bigger and have more ground to explore. The easiest way to put it is 'light Metroidvania'. There's less backtracking that you'd expect from a Metroidvania, but exploration is still key here.

    I like Rocketbirds 2. At first, I was indifferent about it, but having played more of it, I'd go as far as to say it's even more overlooked than its predecessor and deserves just as much attention.    … Expand

    Very good 2D shooter game, better than the one. Highly recommended.

    PROS: Fun to play + Smooth movements + Varied gameplay + Mobile tricks + Interesting musics + Different weapons + Map helps

    CONS: to say something when the character climbs stairs is jumping

    Rocketbirds 2 Evolution is the second game about the hardboiled chicken. Some mysterious space owls have revived iL Putzki, the enemy from the first part and it’s your job to manage this once and for ever now.

    The gameplay is as smooth as the first one. You can use different weapons, change them whenever you want, sometimes you get new devices for controlling enemies and things like    Rocketbirds 2 Evolution is the second game about the hardboiled chicken. Some mysterious space owls have revived iL Putzki, the enemy from the first part and it’s your job to manage this once and for ever now.

    The gameplay is as smooth as the first one. You can use different weapons, change them whenever you want, sometimes you get new devices for controlling enemies and things like that and sometimes you will meet some NPC characters who will help you out for a while. And besides a very interesting story there is much humor in this game. I’d never skip a dialogue in this game.

    The game offers controller support, but I recommend playing it using your keyboard and mouse, as it’s too difficult to aim with the controller.

    I really enjoyed the co-op mode in the first part and now it’s even better! You can customize your budgie. There is a big list from weapons and clothes to choose from, and once you have chosen the equipment you want, you can upgrade it to do more damage and get hurt less. And now you don’t need to search for people. You can just host a room, start playing and up to 3 other birds can join you whenever they want. And if you don’t want to start playing alone and hope that somebody will join, you can hire ducks. They will fight at your site and make your life easier. After completing certain missions you unlock new shops (where you can buy new armory) and sometimes new multiplayer characters.
    And there is also a versus mode where both sides have to pay money and the winner gets everything! So whenever your partner says he’s better and you can’t anything, invite him for a little match and show him what you really can.

    The graphics are as excellent as they were in the first part. I really love the style and the idea of the game. The music is also great! That soundtrack! I could listen to it the whole day!

    Positive:

    + controller support, trading cards, achievements
    + co-op mode (online and offline)
    + customization
    + you get a free copy of the first game

    Negative:
    - bad aim with controller
    - had to open my own room in multiplayer, couldn’t join others
    - some lags in multiplayer

    I have become a big fan of this game and I’d say this is one of the best indie projects for me so far. I love it and recommend it to everyone. Now is the very best time to get it, especially if you don’t have the first part as you will get it for free.

    The first Rocketsbirds was already 10/10.

    Pacing issues aside, Rocketbirds 2 provides a fun experience that I wish spent more of its time focusing on the action, instead of mundane and rudimentary puzzling elements. Fans of the original will love this, and those looking for a throw-away action fix could do a lot worse than give Rocketbirds 2: Evolution a shot.
