Returnal is the first game in a long time to bring back that sense of excitement for gaming for me. When you wake up in the morning, you can't wait to jump into the game for a couple of hours. The ability to pause a run and save your progress at any moment intensifies that feeling threefold. After all, whenever you get the chance, you can fire up Returnal again and enjoy the shooting and exploring the world for an hour, two hours, or even the whole evening, all while burning with frustration over yet another ridiculous defeat. I’m even a little upset that I didn’t play it sooner.

The PC-port of Returnal fixes one of the biggest issues of the Playstation-version; not being able to safely quit the game without losing progress. In keeps its smooth combat, even with a mouse and keyboard and allows the graphics too be even better on modern hardware. An amazing roguelike with just a few minor complaints.

Returnal is an interesting game and for those who want a roguelike that keeps the story hidden behind a challenging gameplay loop, this is a wonderful place to start. Astropos is full of mystery and danger but with enough runs, any player has the ability to master the tight combat offered up here.

Returnal for PC brings technical improvements while retaining the excellent gameplay and overall feel of the PlayStation 5 version. It’s a must play title for roguelike fans, but mainstream gamers that want to experience Returnal’s highly addictive fast bullet hell gunplay should be armed with a lot of patience.

Returnal's jump to PC is a clear example of a commitment to bring PlayStation games to more players. And even though the result could be better, the game still retains the quality with which we met it on the console. It even looks much better and shows that, with the proper hardware, a video game can still look much better.

The best version of an already great game, Returnal on PC is a fantastic rogue-like experience if you have the hardware to handle it. It also serves as proof that Sony is really starting to understand the PC platform as a whole.

Returnal is a solid roguelike that does a very good job of encouraging you to play just one more run over and over again. The shooting and traversal are solid, and the fights may be tough but never feel cheap. The inclusion of the DLC and the Suspend mode from the get-go ensures that the game seems more fair, even though death can still come easily. The presentation shows that the PC can still provide a top-of-the-line experience for modern games. The stuttering is the only real thing dragging down this experience, but if you are somehow immune to that or are reading this by the time the patch has been released, Returnal is a must-have for those who enjoy difficult solo shooters.

Returnal is a fast-paced third person action roguelite that will test your skills and reflexes. However, the PC port is an unoptimized mess that will deter skilled players from playing due to the abundance of frame stuttering and constant crashes. A beautiful and fun game, hindered by lazy optimization.

Returnal arrives on PC two years after making a splash on PS5, packing many exclusive features that make this version the one to beat—if you've got the rig to handle it.

Thanks to a recent patch that fixed the majority of performance issues that I was having, I can happily call Returnal on PC the “definitive version.” It has the looks, the performance, and the best controls, ready to reward those who waited for the PS5’s timed-exclusivity period to end with a compelling, mysterious story and top-tier bullet hell gameplay.

Housemarque's first attempt at something bigger was an almost complete success. If you are a fan of roguelites you ought to try Returnal.

Having Returnal on PC is an excellent move for everyone involved, especially with the quality shown in the port. A new audience can finally have a taste of that amazing blend of gameplay that constantly beguiles players into taking one more run, enhanced by the bells and whistles made possible by the power of the PC. As one of the PS5’s best games, it would make perfect sense that Returnal maintains that form in its migration to the PC, and it proves just that.

Returnal might not be the mind-bending masterpiece that I was, perhaps mistakenly, expecting after the praise I’d heard from friends and colleagues, but it’s still an excellent roguelike with clean gameplay and a beautiful presentation. Word of warning though: the length of each run combined with the difficulty might make it frustrating for some, and graphical optimization relies heavily on the use of supersampling technologies.

Returnal is a great experience for those who love bullet hell games or sci-fi roguelikes. Though the difficulty spikes and unbalanced weapons sometimes make it hard not to rage quit, sticking with Selene in her mysterious and symbolic journey is truly rewarding.

You won't want to break the cycle because Returnal offers an immersive experience that sucks you in for hours. However, when you finally break the cycle and reach the end of Selene's journey, you will realize just how much of a masterpiece Returnal is.

Returnal isn't for everyone and if the game's distinctive blend of psychological horror, heavy atmosphere and nerve-wracking die-and-start-again gameplay doesn't hook you during the first few hours, then the game doesn't do much during the subsequent rounds to convince you either.

These days it's hard to find a more action-packed, more colorful, more addictive game than Returnal. Even if you've played it on PS5, Returnal is the perfect game for keyboard & mouse control and you should give it a try on PC.

PC version of Returnal elevates the original PS5 game to new heights. Greatly optimized for all levels of PC hardware and with even prettier visual presentation and customizable controls, this game represents one of the best action titles released on PC ever since the arrival of the DOOM Eternal.

Despite two years having passed since its original release, Returnal still feels as good and fresh as ever. Its strong gameplay and art direction are certainly bolstered by the fact that it made the leap from console to PC quite gracefully.

Complex systems are made simple, by committing their clutter to muscle memory, and play—good play, at any rate—requires that you, like Selene, ride its enigmatic loop.
  22. The bullet hell game Returnal with roguelike elements makes a great debut on the PC platform. If you like RNG-based challenges and old-school arcade games, give Returnal a try.

The PC version makes Returnal's controls more flexible, but it's not enough to change the frustration of dying. The rollercoaster ride of a thrilling battle, only to be plunged into a painful cycle of dying and dying again because of a single mishap, can be a real test of the player's mental capacity.

I’ve been away from Returnal for some time, and coming back for the PC version was a happy reminder that, for a good long while, Returnal was my go-to action game. Two years later, its combination of fluid movement, engaging story, and challenging combat is still excellent. Some will still bounce off its difficulty but there are small ways to mitigate the pain. PC action game fans who missed Returnal when it was a PS5 exclusive are in for a great time.

Returnal was a fantastic game on PS5, the best one so far, and it stills as good as before. A title that can be enjoyed on PC with the keyboard and mouse combo, or with the DualSense controller to take advantage of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for an immersive journey. A instant buy for all PC players.

Another prime example of how PC ports should be done: Returnal looks brilliant on high-end machines, but shows fine performance on medium-sized PCs as well. There are plenty of options to choose from and the rogue-like action feels amazing with keyboard and mouse. If you haven't yet experienced Returnal in all its glory on PS5, this version is just as good, if not even better.

In its current state, Returnal perfectly suits the Steam Deck, and it runs quite well given the hardware, with visual cutbacks. While it isn’t as nice as playing on PS5 of course, I’ve found myself enjoying Returnal on the go quite a bit thanks to the suspend feature and sublime core gameplay. It also helps that Returnal on PC arrives at a lower asking price with all prior updates included from the start making it a super-polished version of one of Sony’s best exclusives in years.

Returnal on PC has all the content on day one that was released for the original game in the year after its launch, meaning that it's debuting on PC in a better state than it was in when it first came to PS5. Developer Climax Studios has hit it out of the park with this port, so any PC gamers curious about Returnal can feel confident picking it up, but they might want to consider getting a DualSense to go with their purchase.

I’ve raved about how amazing it is that we can play PlayStation exclusives on PC before, and with Returnal I feel that this is the very encapsulation of Sony’s goal. Returnal is a chaotic delight to play, and fits perfectly with the setup and mindset of a PC gamer. I’m already looking forward to trying my next run.

Returnal is still a perfect game in my opinion. It hits all the right notes, even when it feels impossibly difficult. The gameplay structure is complicated, precise, and entertaining. The PC upgrade makes the experience even better with superior visuals and a plethora of ways to play the game. This is a superior version of a superior title.

New year, same old philosophy by Sony: If a game that was only available on PS5 comes to PC, makes sure it has all possible features, works great, has awesome optimization, controls fantastically and gives the best experience it can to its users.

Returnal on the Steam Deck is going to look a little ugly. All three supersampling options aren’t the best in the world, as AMD’s FSR and Nvidia’s NIS options muddied the screen and VSR turned the game into a gloopy mess. There are also options to turn down the rendered resolution, as well as turn on Dynamic Resolution, but nothing ever managed to run or look ‘right’.

Going back to Returnal on PC, we were instantly reminded why we fell in love with it. This is a game like no other. We were disappointed when Housemarque announced it was stepping away from the arcade-style games that it became known for, but when Returnal was unleashed we quickly came to terms with it. This may be a third-person shooter with roguelike elements and lashings of horror, but it’s Housemarque’s penchant for making games that keep you going back for more that ties it all together. And the result is quite simply phenomenal.

The arcade shooting "bullet hell" with roguelite elements results in an interesting proposal, that on its way to PC leaves an even more astounding technical exhibition. However, its difficulty and style may not be to the liking of all players, so if you hate challenging games and/or loops or repetitions, better think about another title.

Returnal completely surpasses the PS5 version by providing wonderful graphics and amazing optimization. It literally squeezes the full potential of the new GPUs. The whole game is a tremendously satisfying experience. From the wonderful alien design, to the slow-burning storyline and its blank-faced staring astronaut, to the satisfying array of weapons, and perhaps most importantly, to the way the statues crumble when you hit them, this is something utterly solid, and eternally compelling. And unless my rig proves a fluke, finally a console-to-PC port to celebrate on day one.
  3. Keep playing and each turn reveals with increasing certainty that this is a game totally at one with itself, from its audio-visual spectacle to its pinpoint control to its interweaving narrative and now its longevity. Unlike Selene, I keep coming back to Atropos by choice. Long may its immaculate, horrifying loop continue. [RPS Bestest Bests]

This game is a monotonous and boring slog killing the same enemies again and again and again and starting from the start if you die. It's trying hard to be another Dark Souls wannabe with some rogue like elements. Personally if I were to review the game based on its quality, it’s a great game, the graphics, the gameplay, the sound design, everything about it is top notch, the game’s atmospheric and the narrative ambiguous but mysterious enough that you’re engaged with it constantly, then the gameplay is very arcadey and fun, something that’s completely subversive compared to contemporary story driven titles that aim to give more “weight” to the character at the cost of control responsiveness.

Even then though my actual experience was mediocre at best, initially I loved the game, and then I got pummelled time and time again up until I couldn’t get past the first biome of five (I’ve heard) . This kind of experience might be really appealing to people who adore challenge, but personally I felt frustrated and after a while, feeling quite bored towards the game, I just feel as if I’m going to take a break from the whole thing and move on to other games; these really demanding and challenging titles might’ve been fine when I was a kid and in a few cases I had nothing more than games to keep me entertained, but now I feel like they’re a bit of a loss of time, no offense to those who like the “climbing” or accomplishment of a game challenge, but to me I just don’t have it in me anymore, I lack the determination, time, and persistence to overcome the challenges these titles throw at me, instead I see those challenges as hinder and a blockade in what I’m actually interested in experiencing in a game, which is mainly its story, in conjunction with its gameplay.
