If you are after a more sophisticated beat-em-up or a challenging platformer, then you probably wont find it in Remember Me. If you are after an engaging, thought provoking cyberpunk story set in a cool dystopian setting, that is wrapped around a serviceable beat em up platformer with an amusing gimmick in the form of ''combo remixing'', then you may be in for a good time. Remember Me isnt a master of either of the genres it combines, but it tackles them just well enough to deliver a worthwhile experience.

Where the game's real strengths reside are within its setting and themes. A world where your memories are digitized, can be relived, bought, exchanged, shared, manipulated, stolen and how it all affects the human condition is very engrossing. Neo-Paris itself is a sight to behold, with the locales ranging from run down slums to the rebuilt classical yet futuristic areas of the city, backed up by background lore that you unlock via collectibles that you'll want unlock and read, with collecticbles often being quite tricky to find. Nilin as a protagonist also i found fun and interesting. Perhaps early on it's harder to connect with her, but as the story progressed i started to sympathize with her. Nilin's also neat from a character design perspective with her managing to stand out compared to the bland, sanitized female prortagonists we have been getting for the last decade or so in Western gaming.

For a nearly 10 years old Unreal Engine 3 game Remember Me also holds up quite well, largely due to the vibrant art direction.

I really liked the cyperpunk atmosphere of the game, the art design, graphics, environment are very nice. The story is not bad, it has a few twists. The characters aren't bad. Remember me. Remember me is a hack and slash game, with a futuristic/cyberpunk theme, as well as some puzzles.
At first, I didn't give a damn to the game, I got it because I was bored and I because of Nilin's (the MC) beautiful appearance, but I soon changed my mind. The game is amazing!! The graphics might not be the best, I admit, but it's definitely not bad. I saw some people

I saw some people associating the combat with other good games accusing it of copying them and saying it's bad but that's definitely wrong, the combat is kinda innovative since you can set predefined combos and what each move does, that's very cool.
The story... oh yes, the story... no comments, it's just perfect.
This game is definitely one of my favorites.
Tbh it actually deserved a 9.0/9.5 (maybe an annoying cult "gamer" would give it an 8.5), but I'll give it a 10 because I really like it.

Expand

The futuristic Paris is a great visual but is not fun as there is no exploration, the invisible wall holds you from going out of your way. The game is made by Capcom so the camera work has to be shoddy like the DMC series. The worst thing in the game is the combat system. You have to combine punches and kicks in the order game gives you to create a combo but the devs didn't provide a parry system that destroys the combo when you dodge from getting hit. Expand

Remember Me had a huuuge potential that, sadly, wasn't utilized.
The main idea behind story is cool (memory technology), but the behaviour of characters is often quite illogical. Gameplay is average - platforming is like watered down Assassin's Creed, combat like simplfied Batman Arkham series. It's not bad, I enjoyed it in the first hours actually, but it quickly becomes very repetitive

Although the story is good, level design and the overall world fails to be unique.

It would take 40hrs to complete this game without those arrows because it's just not obvious where to go.

Throughout the game you develop powers that allow you to get past environmental obstacles and manipulate physical puzzles. There are a few mental puzzles that were really fun to solve and there are some minigames where you have to manipulate someones memory to change their behavior. This isn't like picking a lock though. There is a sequence of video that you watch and try changing small aspects of the memory to achieve the affect.

Characters are very well acted and voiced. You care about these people. It's a great game, and really cheap at this point. If you are looking for a fun scifi game to play one weekend go out and buy it.

Remember Me is, honestly, forgettable. Overly simple, unattractive combat, awkward platforming and a lackluster story tear down the potentials set up by the game's memory remix sessions and aesthetic settings.

One can clearly see the ambition that the development team was going for, however, it doesn't translate very well in the game. My main concerns are with the Combat and level design, where everything is simplified and doesn't offer variety. The latter, especially, is somewhat disappointing, since the backdrops are sprawling and detailed, and players are left with linear pathways and simple verticality. I can imagine the possibilities that they could have achieved with a little more tinkering and polish.

But this is a story-centric game, and choosing between one aspect over another, you'd have to go and focus with what's hot and trending. The story in Remember Me is good. Nothing mind-blowing or emotional; it just needs to develop its characters more, and not make everything so coincidental. It's very exposition-heavy, and they were clearly planning for the long term, since the world, characters, past and present events, are all laid out for the player. It's like Mass Effect: the universe and everything that's happened in it is explained in the first game, and further explored and polished in the subsequent games. If Dontnod could turn this into a franchise, it would be great. The premise is cool, and the world is oozing with style. So go ahead and buy this game. Make Capcom see reason, because it would be such a waste if the suits are just going to throw it out.

Some things to take note of:

*The camera is pretty unreliable, and can move erratically when indoors. This leads to major problems during enemy encounters.

*Combat is very repetitive, and there's no variation at all; you just do combo after combo, and there's not much skill involved. Since this is a story-focused title, I suggest that you play in easy mode, since the only thing that hard mode does is make your enemies hit sponges.

*Boss battles have obscure QTE segments. I say obscure because the icons that flash on the screen, doesn't represent keyboard or controller icons; they have their own unique prompts that follow the stylish aesthetic of the whole game. If you miss a single prompt in the whole QTE segment, you're going to have to lower the boss' health again - and do the QTE segment all over again.

*You can pause cutscenes, but you can't skip it. This also applies to second playthroughs.

*Uses an autosave system. No manual saving for you, little man!

    And there you have it.

The visuals and the music are top notch. The battle system, which is basically the core of the game, is great too. Though it might be not everybody's cup of tea. It requires you to think, while creating your combos, change them constantly throughout the game for the most effectiveness, and be well concentrated during the actual fights. So in order to enjoy the game, you must put some effort but it really pays off with a lot of fun and makes you feel like a real memory hunter. I can imagine it all being "meh" if you die constantly.
The story of RM could've been better. It had potential and the premise was great, but in the end, it felt like somebody ripped off the pages from the middle of the script and replaced them with a couple of sentences. It really felt abridged, but it was still good.
Also one of my personal gripes (since I like to replay it from time to time) is that the game doesn't have a lot of replayability. Though there is a bunch of collectibles scattered all over, I do wish they included a "skip" option for the cutscenes, which are aplenty, and memory remixes. The latter is actually the cool feature but only for the first time.

You are Nilin and you wake up in a memory wiping facility - and the story takes you from here through the neo-Paris to destroy the M3morize - the company behind it all.

The story overall felt interesting and compelling to push on. The graphics, voice acting, locations - all well designed and interesting to look. The game leads you by a string - there's no sightseeing involved. Might as well be a good thing as it keeps the story focused.

There are two annoying things though that you should keep in mind. The audio seems to disappear from time to time for no apparent reason. Quite annoying to be honest. The second flaw is the combat system. Although in theory interesting - you build combos in separate menu from nodes. Each node represents different power like healing, reducing cooldown on special abilities or increasing the punch strength. There's like 5 different combos - from the 3 node one up to 8 (or 7) node one. In practice however I found to be using almost only one at all times. It does little sense to use any other - apart from the shortest one which I set to heal only. The longest one however was too long to ever complete so I ended up never using it.

The game also features a few puzzles of which some are pretty interesting and really do add up to the game.

This game reminds me Oni - an older game but similar in a lot of ways which was in plus as I really liked Oni. However the combat ends up feeling a bit slow with the need to time the combos. Not a favorite part of the game.

Overall despite some of the flaws I quite enjoyed the game and wouldn't mind recommending it if you're ok with letting pass a rather mediocre combat system.

An extremely console-ish game with some interesting gameplay ideas - utilized very badly - and ultimately resulting in a frustrating, annoying, and unengaging experience. A lot of potential here has been squandered for style over substance.

Disorienting cameras that are trying - and failing - to give some kind of cinematic experience while breaking all the rules of good cinematography. Platforming that is about as boring as it gets and seems designed simply to show off the profoundly cluttered and illogically laid-out maps. A never-ending tutorial that infuriatingly interrupts combat which requires precise timing and attention.

Even in easy mode, a few hits from the swarms of enemies puts you in a risky state of low health. Forcing you to go through the tedious process of modifying your combo effects to heal yourself or speed up your cooldowns on overload-type attacks. Lacking focus to use these attacks but only have invulnerable enemies left? TOO BAD! It's like this game was never even play-tested.

First of all, fvck the confusing quick time events. Of all the games that I have played, I can say that Remember Me quick time events is painfully annoying and difficult. They should've put normal buttons there instead of those symbols. Second, combat may be unique -- but sometimes enemies are too damn hard and too many making the game really friggin' annoying. Third, game is full of bugs. Fourth, game is smooth on my device but loading screen takes too much time especially when repetitively DYING from this disappointment of a game. Fifth, the game feels too repetitive even with the new mechanics being introduced as the player progresses. Sixth, the collectibles is really ridiculous. The health bar and focus bar should be improved automatically during the game and not by looking for stupid easter eggs! Seventh, shallow story. Just beating people up to stop someone from doing this for whatever reason that only Edge and Nillin knows. Eight, almost emotionless if not totally emotionless voice acting.

Thankfully, if you actually play the game in the easiest mode and just finish the game thru the end, everything will be fine and less frustrating slash repetitive. The ending is good, plot twist is totally unexpected.

The game (first 3 or 4 chapters?) starts very good. There are minor flaws, but no major ones. Interesting story with elaborated background and good pace, actually solid sci-fi. Fight is a bit surprising but not in a bad sense. You can see the effort, care and creativity of the deveopers. Control, graphics - neutral.
Then it just falls apart. Badly. I think it started with a plot twist where the main character, as a little girl, travels in a car (no spoiler meant, so I don't give details). The scene is so badly written, so out of place and so incredibly irritating that it left me with chin dropped. I though: no worries, anyone can have a bad day, even the writer/developer/whoever. I was ready to forgive (if not forget) and kept playing. But, from then on, the quality plummeted. Understand me well: the story became not only boring but irritating. The characters became completely irrational, so much that I stopped feeling anything at all. The plot twists became predictable, stupid, common place. Moreover, the fight conditions became more and more unfair Checking former comments, ppl complained a lot that fights were easy (I played a few years after publication). Checking other players on youtube, it indeed seemed easy. My guess is that developers tried to fix this in a pretty an upsetting way, f.e. your mobility was reduced after certain actions for a split second, whereas the opponents can hit/kick/shoot you with no problem. Unfair. Disappointing.
I tried to finish the game... but in the end I just deleted maybe 1 or 2 chapters before the end. I simply decided that I spend no more precious time with something that alernates between boring and upsetting. On the bottomline: 8 for the beginning, but not more than 2 for the rest. Considering my disappointment, I am generous with 4 for the whole.

However, as the game went on, the story started to get less and less interesting, filled with a large number of tropes and cliches, and the worst of all, feeling padded with levels that were way longer than they should've been. The game can be summarized as a collection of cutscenes connected together by tonnes of climbing, combat, and stealth sections, which often repeated in every single stage.

I enjoyed the combat. It was fun stringing together combos and making each hit in a combo do something, like heal self or reduce the cooldown on skills. Getting a chance to dodge whenever I want, and we've got a very dynamic combat, enhanced even further by fun S-Pressen skills, which act like special abilities, such as a short fury burst, or slowing the enemy reactions, or even making machines turn on their allies and self-destruct.

The boss fights were either love or hate experience for me. I enjoyed some of them, like the Zorn robots, but the ones against some important characters were irritating, because most times they were completely invulnerable to everything but one skill, and unfortunately the skill you needed to use would go on a long cooldown after you use it. Even with the help of cooldown reducing skills, this still dragged out the boss fights way longer than they should've been. To make boss fights even worse, you had to finish each boss off with a series of QTE button presses. If you make a mistake, the boss heals some health and you have to keep fighting them.

Another common gameplay mechanic is the climbing. It's very similar to Assassin's Creed style of climbing around buildings and rooftops, except it's pretty much 100% linear. There are no big cities to explore. You pretty much make your way from one ledge to the next the entire time. At times you'd be forced to do stealth sections, where you must avoid getting seen by drones. These drones could insta-kill you if you got in their field of view, so making one tiny mistake meant an instant game over, and not being able to save whenever you want, you'd often be taken back to the last checkpoint.

Lastly, the game also had rather cool memory remix sections, where you had to alter someone's memory and make them think that what really happened was different. It's an awesome idea and I thought it was great, but there were only 4 such sections in the entire game. Moreover, despite how cool they were, I don't see them being fun the second time round, when you already know what to do.

Overall I was a bit disappointed. The game had a nice premise, a cool setting, and both the visuals and music were nice too, but its gameplay suffered for the most part and got very repetitive very fast, and the story got less interesting in the second half. Because of this, I can't recommend it to most players, but I think some players will enjoy it very much. I'd recommend to get it only when it's heavily discounted.

Given the premise, I went in afraid that the game was going to constantly go "Hah, everything you know is a lie" and call it plot. The developers resisted the urge, and stuck to an engaging core narrative that remained delightfully easy to follow.

Cons: I did have to hit the internet to figure out one core game mechanic (the difference between punching and kicking in a combo). Also the story is 100% linear, so the player needs to go in with the understanding that they are button-mashing (or elegantly combo-ing) their way through a movie, and not playing a Mass Effect or similar title. The jumping puzzle/problem solving requires more patience than thought, but the character looks so cool jumping all about that it's not a big problem.

I didn't really see anything wrong with it other than the auto-targetting, which is indeed not the best, but who cares? You can get used to it. Could be worse.

This game is definitely worth playing for the overall experience of the plot, the sound, and the setting. I almost believed the haters, but I got this on a sale - and it was awesome.

Story/Dialogue/Characters... What seems at the beginning as a classical revenge motivated story line, evolves into a tale of guilt and the importance of confronting your pain, the price we pay to achieve our goals, of our identity and how a single event can drastically alter who you are. Nillin is an outstanding protagonist, her monologue is brilliant from the start, when she trashes inside the coffin her panic and anxiety is palpable, her reunion with her family gave me one of the most emotional experiences I've had in any game... If you love video games that stay with you long after you play it, then you simply cannot miss out this one. I would put it even on the same level with Last of Us, which is longer and overall better written, but was less original and more predictable. Only thing that was bit detracting from experience was some voice acting on english version( Nillin VA is exceptional though) and few characters like Kid X'mas and Madame that felt more like Austin Powers villains, compared to overall tone of this game.
Graphics/Environment Design/Art Style... simply put this is the best realized cyberpunk and most immersive setting of our close future in any game. Graphics are excellent(although I would have liked an option to remove film grain) but the environmental design is where this game really shines. Robotics and smart technology is everywhere, design of life spaces is completely spot on, transparent floors,etc... You can clearly see, how designers didn't simply rush into this and really investigated what our life in 50 or so years would be like. If you love games with great atmosphere, that pull you to another space and time, then you're in the right place here.
Gameplay...Overall it feels like simplified version of Assassin's Creed platforming and Arkham series combat with a few ideas of it's own. The movement between environment felt a bit restrictive with a clear follow the marker line, that the game could do without. Combat is less complex with no block or parry feature, but animations are top notch with well executed kill moves and the ability to create your own combos with different effects, which is a nice addition to the genre. You also develop several unique abilities like stealth, AOE stun, control drone etc... to complement pure fighting game. Overall, on the highest difficulty, it was simple but challenging, quite addictive fun without ever becoming frustrating... the only thing I would have liked to see is more agressive AI from common enemies, while allowing Nillin to continue her combos from one to the next.
Performance and Stability...It runs very smoothly, no FPS drops, crashes, zero bugs... I've encountered only one glitch during platforming that reload fixed and that's just about it. No complaints.
Final Impression... I expected poorly optimized game and riddled with bugs , or an ending similar Mass Effect style that leaves a sour impression on the overall game, anything to explain how something of this quality was almost unnoticed, but I stil don't get it. RM could definitely use more complexity when it comes to combat or platforming, or allowed us some storyline Deus Ex choices, as well as expanded environments with more alternate paths... but what this game also offers is fantastic atmosphere and amazing environmental design where it's second to none, provocative tale and one of the most unique and engaging protagonists in any game, while adding it's own innovations like combat style customization and memory altering mechanic.
Trust me on this, this is a game whose only real failure is that it values quality over quantity and substance over form as well as offers unique ideas of it's own to an industry where creative design is of little interest...like Masquerade Bloodlines and similar games, this game has a unique quality that will take years to be recognized.

This is by far one of my favourite games ever. The storyline is fantastic, the art is beautiful and the mechanics to set up your combos for fights are unique. The controls can be a little awkward due to the often bad camera angles but as a big fan of Capcom games, you get used to it. The storyline of this game easily makes up for this anyhow. 10/10 will never forget this game :D

Remember Me very clearly borrows ideas from Assassin’s Creed, Tomb Raider and Batman’s Arkham series, but manages to do so in a fun & creative way. I’d not say it is worth the release price of $60, but I got it cheap during a Steam sale and don’t regret the purchase at all.

Combat will initially feel a little too much like the Arkham series. Stick with it, however, and it turns into something unique. As you level up, you gain access to different types of combos and different types of attacks. One type is pure damage, one shortens your special attack cooldown, and one type heals you. It is more than button spamming, as you will have to remember the exact order of strikes to press to carry out the correct type of combo. If you need to do big damage, repeatedly doing a health combo will get you nowhere. The biggest payoffs come the further along you get in a combo, as well, so you will need to be able to fight without getting constantly hit or you’ll have a bad time.

Remember Me manages to mix things up just enough, and is just the right length, so the combat doesn’t get too repetitive. There are a few stealth-like areas as well as some puzzles and collectibles to find. The climbing & parkour bits are decent, but best of all are the memory remix sections. This comes when the protagonist has to alter someone else’s memory. It’s highly enjoyable to figure out the correct combination of changes to meet your goal as well as see how changes can alter the memory in ways you didn’t intend.

The music, atmosphere and design are all done very well, too. You feel like you are in a dystopian future Paris.

As for the drawbacks, I think Remember Me could have used a little more RPG to it. Some skill trees, weapons or something. There are a few enemies that require some of your specific special attacks to defeat and that’s about the only time you will use them. The rest of the time you can skate by with regular combos, and once you get used to the system, fights get pretty easy.

Secondly, the story ultimately left me cold. It was pretty good and the concept was intriguing but I never felt invested in any of the characters. I kept waiting for some big twist or reveal and it never quite happens. There is a sort-of twist near the end but nothing I found to be such a big deal.

Third, there are quick time events. Not a lot, but they are there and usually pop up during boss fights. I loathe QTEs and want them to go away very badly. Nuff said.

Finally, I would have liked to see something more done with the memory remix sections. There are just enough of them to leave you wanting more.

Overall, though, Remember Me is a solid single player experience. It is not a must-play title, but if you’re looking for something brief and engaging at a discount price, this is it.

"Remember Me" is like a good glass of wine. Not everyone likes it, but everybody should be able to recognize the work involved in running a job of this exquisite quality.

The Spanish translation is a little bad sync with the mouth movements of the characters, but it is somewhat understandable given the differences in the oral articulation and existing sentences in French and Castilian. Evidently motion capture is based on models that spoke French, but not overlook it an outstanding job.

Though the game is not without its flaws, the combat can be a bit frustrating at times and the linearity of the game feel a bit out of place, since it feels as though this game should have been open world. If ever there is a sequel though unlikely it seems, I hope they implement an open world as I would love to explore everything this setting has to offer!
I really hope to see more games like this one that don't follow the trends of today's industry... sadly publishers just want to go where the money is, not where the art is.

Remember Me could've really fleshed out its neo-Paris setting, but the linearity makes it feel like I'm only scraping the surface of it. I also think some of the secondary characters could've been developed more. For example, Tommy, Olga and Frank get no more than five minutes of screen time each, and as a result they kind of fade away into obscurity when the game shifts its focus on Nilin and her parents. It feels as if they serve no crucial purpose beside giving the opportunity for Nilin to give an underwhelming philosophical musing about whether the ends justify the means during cutscenes between levels.

It probably sounds like I don't like the game, but that's not the case, I still enjoyed it. The combat system for one is quite effective, it's simple and it works, though it can be a bit boring during the game's introductory sequences because many of the sensen abilities and pressens are not yet unlocked. Once these become available to you however, the combat system offers just enough variation and fancy visual effects to keep it interesting throughout the rest of the game. I also like how the soundtrack is synchronised with combos in combat, making it feel satisfyingly fluid and cinematic. Nice touch.

Altogether, Remember Me is a decent game, though not without its flaws, often get some Mirror's Edge vibes from the setting, wish it could've utilised it a little more though.

The graphics are in dire need of some work, mainly the poor textures and shaders make it look a little dated.
Sadly it doesn't only fall short there, the gameplay is extremely linear. The game isn't so much a game as a story with a menu screen. You are directed, with no perceivable allowance for exploration, to each objective. Episode 0 is a good indication of that as it sets multiple waypoints just a few metres apart for you to follow. The only control you have is with the "combat" system. You can choose how to beat up some truly terrible AI opponents, as in do you punch or kick them. That's it, but in all fairness they're so stupid that you only need that much choice.
Platforming sections? Of which there are quite a few, are a poor mans version of tomb raider. No alternate routes, no challenges. Simply follow the only direction you can possibly take.
Then there are the memory remix parts. Rewind to start and look for blurs, then slow it down and click. Move to next blur and repeat.... yawn. Though clever in concept it's too simple and basic in application.
The voice acting is pretty good though, I liked the voice acting.

First of all - I must say this loud and clear, this game deserves to be played! You really should play it!

When I first played it, I was shocked by the not-too-good reception of the game and later on I figured out what was wrong about it.
You can summarize what's wrong like this - this game could be, and promised to be, something big, different, innovative, even revolutionary- in terms of gameplay. It seems as if it even intended to do so, but didn't fully succeed.

What makes this game look so interesting is the fact that you're being a memory hunter. Messing with people's memories is not a concept often explored in common video games. The one extraordinary feature which raise this game above many others is the memory remixing - you'll have to remix people's memories in order to change their views, thoughts and actions. Sounds amazing, isn't it? And indeed, the few times you'll be doing this in the game are rather cool and exciting, even though it felt like the mechanics of the remixes was a bit too simple, it still felt really good. But as I said, you'll only be doing this a couple of times. Four actually, throughout the entire game, which isn't totally satisfying and makes you want more of it.
What else will you do that's related to memories? Well, you're gonna steal some, replay some, and kill some, but it's all done with a few buttons' clicks and not in a very interesting way. And what else will you do? Well, you'll kick your enemies' butts. And climb. You'll also jump a bit, but you're gonna climb a lot.

And in Remember Me... it just isn't enough.
The game is not very long, yet it might feel like you're playing forever, as the game gets more and more tedious in time when you feel like you fight horde after horde of enemies with cutscenes in between. The fighting isn't that interesting, and is generally easy, except for some parts in the game where it's not. But that's only because of the controls, which at first seemed fine to me, but somehow from the middle of the game and on I just felt like it all became too clunky and Nilin's movements didn't always have much to do with the buttons I pressed on the keyboard.

The platforming is not that interesting as well. It only gets long and repetitive in time. The only thing that makes it good is the gorgeous graphics and surroundings which I'll speak of later, and the somewhat-artistic camera angles which change and flow smoothly. But still, as I said, it gets long and repetitive, especially when you don't have much freedom of choice about where to go, and not even the illusion of it. There's almost always only one single path to follow, you can never wander too much, and many times when you do the game would quickly suggest you the 'correct' path or action that has to be done. That makes the game even easier, and makes you feel like you just follow a trail of cutsceneshordes of enemies at times.

So, yeah, gameplay-wise, the game is not necessarily brilliant. But now let's talk about the good stuff, which far outweigh the disappointing gameplay.

Remember Me is very much story-driven. It's purely a science fiction kind of story and yet it revolves around humanity and its mind, their memories and their urge to change or guard them. It isn't the deepest tale to be told but it has its insightful moments, and its a very personal and at times heart-touching.
The cutscenes and dialogues which transfer the story are very well done, never too long and never too short, usually very interesting, and with very good and professional voice acting (Note: the game is fully dubbed in English, French, Italian, German, which is very cool!).
The graphics looked absolutely amazing, and without requiring a super-high-tech-machine (Bought my computer in 2010, even back then it didn't have the best specs possible. The game worked very nicely on my machine on High graphic settings). The world of Neo-Paris seemed very wide and detailed, colorful and alive, with my only complaint about it is that the game won't let you explore the environment much - as I said earlier, it's very linear and many obstacles would make you walk in a specific one way instead of exploring the world around you which seems so interesting and eye-catching.
The soundtrack of the game is beautiful, combining symphonic and electronic tracks together (trust me, it's good!) which integrate brilliantly with the game and battle sequences.
The collectibles are nice, not too hard to find usually, but gives you some interesting information to read about the peoplesurroundings around you.

In short(VERY short)- Amazing storytelling which absolutely overshadows disappointing gameplay (the memory remixes totally worth it, though)

Although the combat is somewhat rudimentary and the style of play (and unskippable cut-scenes) limit replayability, the truly brilliant story-line makes this game a must-play. Honestly, the quality of the direction, writing, and score are better than in a lot of major motion pictures. If you have the means (and a 360 pad), definitely check this game out.

In RM what was missing was the game itself. It is a dumb console port, with dumb console controls not translated into PC, with dumb checkpoint system. It is one of the many games that want to make itself longer by using checkpoints, so you have to do stuff, you already done, again and again. After a while this game became a chore. It gets harder and harder, and if you fail, you can start over (ingame videos included). By the time I got to the Madame boss, I was fed up with the endless buttons smashing, these developers call "fight". Somewhat later I gave up and the story just wasn't interesting enough to torture myself more.
Remember me had great ideas, really good design, but as a game it fails miserably.

Remember Me is a game with a compelling story that drives the entire game. It is difficult to get invested in however. It is difficult to get invested in however. Without giving anything away, the game explores some dark, emotional, and philosophical ideas about a future in which memory has been monetized and commercialized, your character, Nilin, is the one to unravel the threads and find the truth behind herself and much more.

Before getting into the story/characters, lets get the gameplay out of the way first; It's mediocre. The combat system starts out rather engaging, allowing the player to customize a series of combo moves (Pressen) to tailor fit Nilin for any specific situation. While engaging, the combat system quickly becomes extremely repetitive and hinges on the players ability to properly dodge and wait for cooldowns to become available. In addition, every substantial enemy (bosses, mini-bosses) ends with every bodies favorite thing...quick time events! The result is an unsatisfying one to say the least. I never felt like I actually defeated anyone as it's all done for you through the QTE's. Despite all this, the combat is not bad. It does require patience though.

Now on to the story/characters...The game is driven heavily by (obviously) the evolution of the story, but seeing as how nobody can remember anything (barring Edge), the weight of carrying the story falls to the characters and how they develop and interact, this is where I found it impossible to become invested in the game. The story by itself is good, but the characters that tell it to you are basically emotionless or otherwise reading some horrible line of dialogue. Most of the time you'll be wondering how the hell some of the lines made it to the final cut. This would be fine if the characters actually portrayed emotion through facial animations, something that is basically non-existent in todays gaming market. Instead, every character, whether in or out of a cut-scene or cinematic, has the same expression for everything. Happy, sad, concerned, fearful, angst (oh there's plenty of that), angry...it's all the same facial expression. This leads to extremely static characters, despite all the developing they're doing. In short, the main focal point of the game's story is told through static, boring characters with horrible dialogue.

The "gimmick", I suppose one could call it, of the game is the ability to influence and change (called Rewriting memories in the game's terminology) peoples memories. This is a great concept in the game and it is indeed fun when you get to do it. It is unfortunate that you only get the chance to do this four times (three if you played the demo, because that one is repeated). Still, despite this, it is a welcome part to the game and helps to break up the monotony of the extremely linear gameplay, the combat, and the between-chapter monologues.

Remember Me gets a 6/10. While it has it's problems, the saving grace for the game is a compelling story, even if it's told through robotic inexpressive characters.

This game is highly underrated. The story kept me interested, the combat was really fun, boss battles wer entertaining. Voice acting was pretty good (Edge was kind of crappy), but really I don't think this game deserves the crap I've read about it. People are too critical.

    PROS:

    Interesting story

    CONS:
Unintuitive control structure. It would have been nice to be told "to rewind memories don't just tweak the mouse to the left like the icon shows, make large counterclockwise circles around your mouse pad" which is cool, but just not obvious.

The fighting system has a great premise (customize your attack/healing/special moves) but a bit clunky in the execution for a mouse and keyboard port (key mappings maybe would have been better).

The open world isn't nearly open enough. You have a fairly linear path through most of the game, and I would have loved to explored some of what I could see.

I have seen a lot of griping about a number of things, and I hope to put some of them to rest. One example is that someone mentioned a seeming lack of imagination when it comes to enemies. To that, all I have to point out is that great games like Bioshock, for example, literally had like two types of enemies - Splicers and Big Daddies. That game is still widely regarded as a great title and this one is no different. Enemy archetypes are low in number, but the variance in enemies is by no means small. I found myself constantly enthralled by the evolution of enemies over time. It definitely felt like they were ramping up the the difficulty as time went on (when playing on the hardest difficulty) and therefore I think they did fine in this department.

Another thing people have mentioned is that they felt as though the combat system was strange or too simple - what have you. The combat system is exactly like what you would see in Batman: Arkham Asylum. It has that sort-of fluid momentum to it that I, personally, praise in video games. So, if you liked Arkham Asylum's combat system, you will like Remember Me's.

Things like the plot (I am about 50% of the way done) and the world seem to be wonderfully crafted. The world especially is breathtaking. In every chapter so far, there seems to be a subtle moment handed to the player to let them know that the environment is expansive and enveloping. It really does well, with the majorly-accredited musical score that accompanies it, in making the player feel immersed. The plot is interesting and holds up well to what I originally anticipated from the game.

Another major gripe seemed to be the interaction with memories and the player's ability to alter them. This was a minor pitfall in the sense that I felt like there needed to be more examples of this throughout the game. Still, in the examples that have occurred up to where I am currently at in the game, I have had plenty of fun trying to solve the puzzles. Sometimes you screw yourself, sometimes you accidentally alter it the wrong way - it /has/ to be limited to some extent but it is still really fun.

I gave the game a 10/10 simply because I think it is a fantastic game overall, an wonderfully immersive experience for players, and a great addition to any gamer's collection. If you can pick it up at $10, I would say it is entirely worth the cash if you have it on hand.

As an afterthought, here are some games that it contains elements of as a means of comparison to your tastes: The Bioshock Series, Batman: Arkham Asylum, elements of horror similar to those in parts of Dead Space and Dead Space 2, Mirror's Edge, Assassin's Creed, and even some relation to Dishonored. Super fun game, check it out in the very least and, if you get it, I definitely recommend tackling it with a controller.

What's missing for her it's a agressive husband. *joking*. I can say Nilin is the perfect one to finish getting back her memory and to make me ask who was she before this nightmare? The places are cool. A futuristic level at the concept of towns and alleys is not hard to make, not today, and here, the Neo-Paris is great built. What made me say this is one minimal detail which maybe doesn't matter in games who has not a open world: every shop, restaurant has its own interior and the inhabitants are not dead, such as other games, which make the game very nice watching. The gameplay is quite good; where I am talking about the movement, attack and parkour. The movement is very very easy to swallow, of course, for a woman, which is not a bitter pill. The attack is a bit confusing. I don't say about the combat and moves itself, but the combos are very often useless, as you don't know what to do to make one. On PC, QTE ( Quick Time Event(s)) are very decepting, as you have to execute some moves after some images that you do not know what means, and also, as a quick time event, you have to make them in a short time, not in a certain time. On consoles, at this class, the game is better polished. The parkour is neither good or bad, acceptable, as not to lower the grade for the game. You can just grap some edges of of a building, walk along the walls, climb up some stick and run quickly on platform, which does not constitutes a parkour game which also is not.
All in all, the game is very attractive and nicely playing and I cannot understand why some gave it low grades and under-appreciated it. I give it a 9.

This game tells a story. A story about a distopia where memories are commodity for desperate junkies, and the rich. It's full of references and quotations from famous literary writers and philosophers (from Balzac to Simone de Beauvoir). This narrative is also very well executed, and enriched with awesome graphics and an extremely fun combat system.

So why the low general score? The only negative issues I've seen target the game's linearity and hance the lack of replayability caused by it. I guess people judge games by their value of being potentially the only game to play for the rest of their lives, nowadays. Bugs are close to nonexistent or too minor to take any notice.

If you're into the concept of memories and a good distopic narrative that tells about it in an artistic manner sounds intriguing, this game is for you.

There are a lot of ideas packed into this game but I feel like if they would have cut back on a couple of the concepts to focus more on the story then this could have been a real stand out game. As it is now Remember Me is more appealing when it gets cheaper or if you have absolutely nothing to play.
