redfall suffers from broken mechanics, buggy gameplay, and poor AI. It needs significant improvements to be playable.

At first I was looking towards to this game until I saw that Bethesda was owned by xbox. Xbox has always been known to make the worst games in the industry but I thought that this would’ve been better. Good thing for that free trial I had or I wouldn’t have given it a chance.

I went into this really looking forward to it after enjoying Deathloop.

It’s actually shocking how much I’m disappointed. Total lack of anything fun to do really. Awful AI, all fights just seem to be the exact same, zero cutscenes and a totally forgettable world.

This looked fantastic at its reveal. Fun, Co op is always a plus. But over time, the more that got revealed, the worse it looked. The playing experience just isn't what I expected at all. Rushed experience.

Horrible game plagued with bugs performance issues, brain-dead AI, lackluster story and boring gameplay loop. Not a good loot-shooter and not a fun co-op game. There's no matchmaking either, and the game looks like a launch 360 title.

Redfall is the prime example of being seriously underbaked, its got performance issues even with the latest game ready drivers I was getting graphical stuttering on my 3070 in places and before updating the drivers the game was near unplayable.

The game is also exceptionally buggy, I found many graphical glitches and issues all over the place - one of the more annoying ones that literally prevents you from getting loot is that you must disable traps and collect loot before heading back to the fire house because when you return and head back out, the world basically regenerates so prime example, in one of the first houses there are two laser trip wires and a loot safe, if you disable one of the trip wires and head back to the safe house to get more rewire tools, the laser trip will regenerate but it'll become broken so you cannot rewire it and thus instantly kill you if you try to cross to the chest again, I'm guessing this issue could be entirely game breaking too deeper into progression with any traps/doors becoming untargetable after picking/rewiring and then heading back to the safe house and the world regenerates.

Gunplay is weak and unsatisfying, feels very rigid and has no stealth kill system so sneaking up to hollow cultists for a stealth kill is entirely useless, so the stealth system really doesn't have that much point at all, might as well just gun down everything providing you have enough bullets.

Graphic wise, its okay - nothing special but does feel a bit dated and cartoony, reminds me of Fallout 76 in some ways so I'm thinking, it quite possibly could be using the same engine.

In closing, Redfall misses the market entirely and needed another 6 months or longer in the oven before I'd say its even remotely ready for market, its got too many issues out of the gate - Multiplayer is useless with no progression except for the host.

What the authors lacked to be above average was the courage to stand up with full force for something unexpected. They could have taken inspiration from their colleagues from the French branch of Arkane, who came up with Deathloop. Redfall is an unpleasant reminder that talents and creativity run out with time. Redfall is a major disappointment from a well-established studio that brought us the hit Dishonored. While I expected an immersive sim that would build on the phenomenal foundations of their previous games, I got a cookie-cutter looter shooter with an empty world, a non-existent story and very little fun. With the steep price attached to this title, I would not recommend it even with a fat discount.

I wanted desperately to find a good game underneath all the bugs in Redfall, and every now and then a tiny ray of light would shine through and give me hope. I took my time to give it a fair opportunity where others wrote it off only a few hours in. Unfortunately, they were right, and this will go down as one of the more disappointing games that I’ve played in recent years. All we can hope for now is that Redfall’s disastrous journey serves as a warning to Microsoft and its stable of development studios. Not because the world’s second-largest company can’t take the hits, but because players deserve better.
