Puzzles, gravitational manipulation, parkour, and guess what... TIME TRAVEL! Redactem is an immensley fun 2D platformer that forces users toPuzzles, gravitational manipulation, parkour, and guess what... TIME TRAVEL! Redactem is an immensley fun 2D platformer that forces users to think hard to solve problems using a wide array of techniques.

    Worlds:

The users are greeted with a very instructive tutorial world that explains to the player how to use the various abilties but don't be fooled into thinking you're ready to take on the game though because Redactem makes you think...hard. So as i stepped into 'Chromium' (the first world) it became apparent straight away how cleverly each level has been designed, not only in a way that it gets harder as you progress but also in a way that it requires more knowledge and experience of each ability and requires you often to use them in quick succession to navigate the various in-game obstacles. After Chromium is a world called 'Scalium'- my in-game nemesis, and offers challenging puzzles that I am ashamed to admit kept me thinknig for probably longer than most people but anhow that only made my victory even more sweet when I finished the game.

    Controls:

The controls are very accessible to users and it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to get used to precision jumping, unlike some games the controls on redactem are placed closely together so no longer will you have to be quickly looking down to the keyboard to find the 'm' button to use an ability - as you can tell i generally play with controllers which leads me onto the next point - THERE IS CONTROLLER SUPPORT! Its just a nice thnig to see on all games, the statement that sets all consoles players minds at ease, and Redactem really does work great with a controller which is very important when parkour comes into the equation.

    Gameplay:

As i stated earlier the worlds have been very cleverly desinged and this really allows the gameplay to become exceptional the worlds work perfectly in conjuction to the movement capabilities of the player for example when they are jumping.

    Graphics:

Before I talk directly about the graphics, I must give kudos to the desinger who has done a splendid job creating an environment that is easy on the eyes and doesnt get annoying after the long play sessions i've had with the game (I die...alot). Every object texture goes very well with the world in which it has been placed and this quality only makes the game even better!

    Sound:

The soundtrack for Redactem is great it offers the user the kind of tunes that keep them going death after death (many of which i had) and allowed me to continue my journey to the end of the game.

    Conclusion:

Redactem is a fun, fun, did i mention fun? 2D Puzzle platformer that I would recommend to anybody who wants to manipulate gravity, solve puzzles, time travel and parkour- which lets be honest is everybody... So go... go buy it, for its incrediblly affordable price!

To think this is Elliott Marc Jones' first game only makes me even more excited for the next!

It features both gravitational and temporal manipulation which is quite impressive, given the game’s asking price and the fact that it’s the developer’s first foray onto Steam. The title has just enough gameplay diversity to keep it interesting and I was also pleased with the sound department. Definitely not a limited and dreary selection of sounds in Redactem. The puzzles weren’t much of a challenge once you get the hang of it and I can only hope the game shall receive further support, with perhaps some more levels and some well deserved Trading Cards. Time will tell but so far I’m content with it and I assure you that it warrants a purchase and not just to support the dev team. It’s actually fun, for a change! Full Review »
