It's not like the former red faction games, but the destruction is still fun, also it was killing those bugs. The gameplay was ok, with lot of different guns, the story wasn't so bad also and the graphics are pretty good.

Да, в сравнении с Guerrilla - это downgrade почти по всем фронтам. Но геймплей остался, практически, таким же увлекательным, что и заставило пройти её два раза подряд.

In its time, the game could be summed up by this: Hated return to roots - the game. However, its actually a pretty decent game, but port plagued by constant crashing. 7/10 without taking technical issues into account, with them: 3/10.

Unlike the broadly well received previous entry, Guerilla with its open map and non-linear (for the most part) progression, Armageddon is a linear shooter, mostly set in the caverns of Mars - much like the almost forgotten first two games in the series. As such, it received a lot of undue hate from the new fans, whose first game of the series was the above-mentioned open-world entry. I have been disappointed by that as well, but as I played the first two games and do actually like them a lot, not as much.

The game itself, when not applying the expectations from Guerilla, is pretty good fit into the series. It has solid graphics, solid gunplay, and the semi-destructive environment with a couple new twists. The story - including interaction between characters, much like in most shooters of this type, is B/C-grade action movie cringe-fest, which also fits overall into the series I guess. However, the environments are pretty cool, and the enemies are also interesting with a decent variety of abilities, as is the selection of weapons.

The sound design is also pretty good for the most part, though some weapons could use a bit beefier sound. The soundtrack is also pretty good, especially in some of the horror-lite sections of the game.

Armageddon also plays pretty well, when it works - you can run it with decent framerates on the highest preset even on a fairly low end machine nowadays.

However, the game falls flat in one regard: The game will crash every 2nd-3rd time you get to a checkpoint in a session when in DX10/11 mode (so generally every 20 minutes), and will crash every hour or so in DX9 mode. The graphical difference is pretty minor, so if you absolutely have to play the game, you can do so in DX9 and get through it with about 6-12 crashes (depending on whether you rush through or take your time exploring and getting all of the stuff the game offers (guns and upgrades)). However, this is pretty unacceptable, at least for me, so I cannot recommend buying the game on PC - unless you have a really high tolerance for crashes, and can get it for very cheap.

I would recommend getting this game on console, if you own one that can run it. You will suffer a bit in regards to graphical fidelity and perhaps framerate, but you will not have to restart the game every 15-60 minutes.

Игра не похожа на red faction guerrilla, но это не делает ее плохой. Простая игра от 3го лица. Обширный арсенал оружия, интересная прокачка. Но порт на пк кривой, это расстроило. На 7 потянет.

The game is very linear which would not be a problem if it had a very good story, but it doesn't.

The game crashes quite a lot almost every 10 minutes, sometimes only once an hour if lucky. And at nearly every cut scene the game would crash, very annoying, Iam not going to put up with this. I give it 4/10 because of the frequent crashes and can't recommend as I felt like I couldn't

Story is ok at best and will be more tolerable for fans of Red Faction series. Most of time you spend shooting aliens and cultists down more or less linear corridors. When you get out doors and get to command vehicles s#it gets real and that destruction found in Guerilla shines again in Armaggedon, tho such levels are only maybe 20 % of the game time at best.

PC port wise it has some issues, in some areas frame rates tanks and i experienced lots of crashes playing in DX11 mode on Windows 7 rig. If you got less powerful GPU id reccomend turning down shadow quality at first and ambient occlusion without sacrificing other visual settings, doing so improves fps instantly, they dont matter so much since game takes place in dark places and action is almost non stop so you wont notice loss of image quality with those settings turned back.

Well, that's the wrong expectation to have if you want to enjoy something, and, quite frankly, it doesn't suck. It just doesn't measure up to Guerilla, due to it being a linear Third Person Shooter that takes you to the oppressive caverns beneath the surface of Mars. So, no, it's not better then Guerilla. It is, however, much better then Red Factions 1 and 2, and if you were engaged in Guerilla's plot and have seen the Origins film that ties these two games together, you will have sympathy for the Mason family and their plight, and will enjoy the game that much more. At a basic level, it has an array of satisfyingly destructive weaponry and even allows you to reconstruct destroyed buildings with the NanoForge device- so you can blow them up all over again. There's also co-op survival. Expand

Installed size on hard drive (all DLC): 9 GB

This time around, we are playing as Darius Mason, son of Jake Mason (from the film Red Faction: Origins), and grandson of Alec Mason (Red Faction: Guerrilla). The terraformer has been destroyed, driving all of Mars' human residents underground. But even deeper inside the Mars crust lies an alien threat. If that sounds Red Faction: Armageddon has ventured into B-movie / game territory, you'd be right. It's a linear shooter, with some fantastic weapons (magnet gun!) and decent atmosphere and graphics. While I suppose much of Armageddon has been done before, it's done well here. So well that I was disappointed when the game ended that there wasn't more to it.

If you're looking for more to do after finishing the single-player campaign but don't want to play through the campaign again, there are two additional modes available. Ruin mode (destroy the environment) is a lot of fun: destroy the environment as fast as possible. You'll be able to use whatever weapons you've unlocked in the main campaign. But there are not enough maps and only two varieties: Free Play and Challenge. Multi-player cooperative horde mode (up to four players on a team), fighting waves of enemies, in either Survive (what it says) or Defend (repair / defend something while waves of enemies attack). There are eight multiplayer maps, each in two varieties for 16 maps in all. There is some fun to be had here, but with so few people playing the game, matchmaking is a problem. You won't be able to get 100% of the game's achievements without getting some folks to help you out.

The "Path to War" DLC, now included for free, is a series of four missions that tie into the main campaign. There doesn't seem to be any reason for them to exist. Maybe the missions were rejected from the main campaign but the dev team were perhaps proud of the level design and released them anyway. The missions are fun, but it is a short, disjointed experience.

I'd like to think that the dev team, knowing THQ was facing troubled times (they went bankrupt shortly after the game's release), said something like, "However big or small our budget is, that's how big /small our game will be. Whatever. Let's make it the best game that we can." And they succeeded, it's a tremendously fun game. If you enjoy playing it as much as I did, at the end you'll be wanting more. But there is no more to be had...

A pretty good game. I cannot call it a marvel of ingenuity, but as a continuation of the series it presents a solid 10 hours of play (which i think is ridiculously small, even by today's low standards, but it seems it is the trend for all games). The game desperately needs FOV tweaking, but luckily - i played it on PC and was able to get rid of the retarded "console box-view."

The story is pretty decent - it is simple but paced very well, so the plot keeps moving with a nice, dynamic speed all the way up to the very end. I was actually pleased that the tedious "hammer" missions, in which you have to knock down buildings, were reduced almost to a zero in comparison with the Red Faction: Guerrilla. I didn't come along many bugs (although there are some insignificant ones), and the game version is still on 1.01 after 6 years from original release.
Overall, a fun simple shooter, well-paced, and mostly polished for what it is - a mass-market pop 3rd person shooter.

Red Faction : Armageddon separates itself from the previous Red Faction titles by moving from a first person shooter perspective to a third person shooter one. Otherwise, the game stays true to legacy of destructable environment that somewhat defined the franchise.

The game includes nice additions, like the hammer and the power gauntlet, that allows you to feel like a techno-barbarian along with the cosy and warming feeling of being a futuristic soldier. It's really nice to mix close range battles with enemies you can shock, and your regular shotgun-rifle-sniper-rocket launcher cycle.

The levels are varied and crafted enougth to deliver a good-to-great experience.

Your character has some kind of a skill / buff tree in shape of several rings, so you can fine tune him to fit your play style. Anyhow, you'll end up with every one of them, so don't fear to make a mistake or forgot something crucial.

The storyline is decent, and credible enougth to justify that level of rampage.

Even if Red Faction : Armageddon will not blow your mind, it's a very good game that gives you a licence to blow every piece of man-made environment to the ground, and rebuild it with your nanobots if you feel it's the right thing to do.

You play as Darius Mason, grandson of Alec Mason from RF:G, and he has more personality than his grandfather. He can be hilarious at times, especially when interacting with his S.A.M. (Situational Awareness Module) A.I. The theme of revolution is still here, although not as it was in previous games, you'll see what I mean. The campaign last for roughly 15 hours.

As for gameplay, it's really fun. Geo-Mod is still here. My main gripe is the removal of open-world. That's really a step back. It could easily have been implemented here. An underground open-world? That would have been great. But I like the new weapons such as the Magnet Gun. It allows you to latch magnets between two objects making one move towards the other. Upgrades are nice too. Taking out the baddies is really fun. What I really didn't like is how the game holds your hand. Not only do you have an objective marker, but also an arrowed path telling you where to go, leaving no room to find where to go on your own. And during boss fights, there is an icon telling you where you shoot, such as weak spots. Too-much hand-holding! As for Infestation mode, I haven't really played it yet, but it's a Horde mode, where you fight endless waves of enemies. Sound fun.

In the end, RF:A isn't bad, but it could have been better. Back when it was released, it would be worth a rental, but buying it now wouldn't be a bad idea, since it's relatively cheap nowadays. Now, Nordic games has control of the franchise, and they have promised a new game. Well, let us see how that turns out...

The graphics are modern but unspectacular, yet require a ton of resources to render. The default FOV is stupidly narrow - for the sake of consolers, obviously - and isn't easily modifiable. This is yet another console port where PC gamers are given short shrift despite simple solutions being relatively easy to utilize.
It's a shame. I enjoyed Guerrilla, but this is nothing like that - and that would have been OK if they had been even a little bit clever and creative with the storyline or gameplay, but they weren't. My biggest gripe is that the terrain destruction mechanic, unlike the original Red Faction is a gimmick rather than a gameplay changer.
