  1. Great graphics, breathtaking stunts and fantastic driving feel - Pure is the surprise hit of the year as far as racing games are concerned. It's a perfect blend of fun and action and looks fantastic. It's possible to create more than 60.000 different Quads out of components, so no Quad looks like the other in multiplayer games. There is no story at all, but it's the perfect casual game once you're done with the short career mode.
  2. A perfectly polished and presented package. It offers extreme-tricking and adrenaline-fuelled racing and does it in a refreshing and challenging way.

Pure delivers an outrageous, arcadey off-road racing experience with style and slickness. The controls are intuitive, the tracks are pure eye candy and the tricks are so crazy and over-the-top that you’ll find yourself gasping with glee when you land your first Lazy Girl.
  4. Pure is probably the best Off-Road racing videogame of the last years. All the fun and the joy of riding a quad can be found here, and the pack comes with a great arcade style, astonishing environments and an accessible and spectacular driving.
  5. The game’s hidden strength, though, is in its visual presentation.
  6. Pure is essentially NFS for the ATV crowd, which I think is a pretty good thing.
  7. Pure is just what the name implies, a game about pure fun.
  8. Pure is a very nice arcade racing game, especially the multiplayer mode convinces.

A wild, aggressive and entertaining racing game. User friendly controls, extreme tricks and splendid locations make Pure a great choice for those tired of FlatOut. ATV tuning guaranteed! [Nov 2008]
  10. When it comes to entertainment, Pure is a true success. The speed sensation is exhilarating, the gameplay is very challenging, the race tricks are at least spectacular and the multiplayer is extremely fun. A title that I can gladly recommend to everyone, especially to those that haven’t played a racing game before.
  11. Fun, fun, fun. Pure doesn’t want to be realistic by any means, but to be a great arcade-game. Few other racing-titles this year were that easy to get into.
  12. Pure is an enjoyable racing game even when an attempt to squeeze in one more stunt results in a pin-wheeling ragdoll rider and dropping a couple of positions.

There is very little PURE actually does wrong. Great handling, graphics, soundtrack and the tricks are far removed from all reality – that’s the way it should be! So if you’re looking for a pretty arcade-game to cover the time till the next “big” one’s released you’ve found your game! [Issue # 16]

As an arcade blast it's an impressively polished and well worth a look if PC's lack of "SSX appeal" has graded for all those years. [Christmas 2008, p.98]

Strangely, Pure is best described through its title. It's not complicated, it's not especially deep, and in parts it's not even that refined. It's straightforward, fast-paced, exciting racing. [Christmas 2008, p.80]

Entertaining in short doses, but severely lacking in variation. [Issue#14, p.56]

Pure is exciting fun that long-time racing fans and those looking to get their feet wet in the genre can enjoy. [Feb 2009, p.69]

Infuriating loading times are a major issue. [Mar 2009, p.74]

Of course online play doesn't work anymore but the gameplay in the world tour mode provides spectacular fun. Towards the end it can get a bit stale, however, since there could be a few more tracks. The graphics are solid, the music is very fitting with its punk/rock focus.
But there is a major downside: the PC port is just a pain in the ass. It is such a lazy port and everybody seems to be having different problems with it. I didn't encounter the long load times most people are complaining about but I had random problems with starting the game and it didn't register my Xbox One controller correctly in the beginning (you absolutely need a controller to play this, playing with keyboard will make you want to kill yourself and others). When I finally got the controller to work, there was no option to change the button layouts... not even a screen where I could just see the mappings, so I had to figure everything out myself. Also, some graphical effects are actually missing from the PC port (and here I am buying the PC version because i thought it would be graphically superior).
To sum it up: the game runs smooth and is still loads of fun when played in short bursts. But playing it on console might be the better way of experiencing it.

The Load Screens. I have a decent computer with an up to date graphics card and 4 gigs of ram. The game runs smoothly on all of the menus and the actual racing part. But it takes FOREVER to load ANYTHING. It takes me 4 minutes to get to the main menu. Another 4 minutes to load the map, and another 3 minutes just to leave the race and go to the main menu. It's riduclous. I enjoy playing this game, but I will uninstall it next week and throw it away if the load screens continue to take forever. Full Review »
