Jan 15, 2026With a forgettable story and not one memorable character, Philna Fantasy sticks to the basics of an action RPG, offering a gameplay loop that feels all too familiar for anyone who has ever played a dungeon crawler. While playing with the different characters is amusing at first, the game soon runs out of steam because it doesn't bring anything new to the table. The puzzles are creative, and the boss fights are a blast, but they're one-and-done deals. After the credits rolled on my 16-hour playthrough, I didn't want to spend another second with the game.

It’s a neat, simple action-RPG that sets out to do a few things, and accomplishes them well enough to offer a dozen or so hours of fluffy entertainment. If you like to run around a new world, bonk some monsters, and make some numbers go up, you can do worse. You can probably do a lot better as well, though. If you’re concerned about the limited time you have left on this planet, you might come away from this adventure a little frustrated. But if you’re the type of digital adventurer who likes to dip their toes into everything possible, there’s a nice little chunk of video game to enjoy here. Just don’t expect to find your new favorite this time.

Jan 20, 2026Philna Fantasy is certainly not fantastic, but it’s decent enough. There is plenty of potential, with its deep crafting and customisation system and enjoyably challenging puzzles to make it worth recommending over many other retro-style action RPGs. Unfortunately, its bland narrative and spotty localisation do little to elevate its world and cast, and the game could do more to aid players in making the most of its many systems. You won’t have a bad time with Philna Fantasy, but don’t expect it to light your world on fire.
