    After playing Persona 5, I really wanted to play more Persona games. Persona 4 Golden released on steam last year, so I finally got the chance to play it.
    The story in Persona 4 is really good, relatable and very engaging, even if the writing is not very consistent. Overall though, it's great, and the additional story in Golden is quite interesting as well, albeit not anything special.
    The    After playing Persona 5, I really wanted to play more Persona games. Persona 4 Golden released on steam last year, so I finally got the chance to play it.
    The story in Persona 4 is really good, relatable and very engaging, even if the writing is not very consistent. Overall though, it's great, and the additional story in Golden is quite interesting as well, albeit not anything special.
    The gameplay on the other hand, it's just okay; the combat system itself is fine but I'll explain later why the gameplay as a whole didn't age very well.
    The main characters, however, are the best part of the game and their interactions are probably the best I've seen in a videogame.
    The music took some time to grow on me but I ended up absolutely loving it!
    The art style is nice, although the visual quality is a bit outdated.
    Also, there are so many awesome school trips and events in the story, it's actually impressive! And it's worth mentioning that the dialogue is very funny at times... like, it had me laughing out loud! Persona 4 Golden is undoubtedly one of the funniest games I've ever played.
    Now, Persona 4 has one issue that affects the gameplay though; the dull dungeon design. The dungeons in that game are literally copy/paste, empty corridors, which is something Golden could improve on but it didn't.
    Another issue is the unnecessarily complicated saving system in the dungeons.

    I gotta say, playing Persona 4 Golden after Persona 5/Royal made me realize how much Persona 5 improved upon its predecessor.
    Much like Persona 5/Royal though, Persona 4 Golden is one hell of an experience! One that I hopefully won't forget anytime soon.

    I generally don't like RPGS so the high score should really be a great indication of just how good this game is. I got a ps4 just to play persona 5, so I'm thrilled to see this on steam when I haven't gotten around to playing the fifth one yet.

    The RPG segments are a bit too easy but the characters more than make up for it. Hilarious game, highly recommend.

You get to hangout with your super cool companion characters and share actual funny or serious moments with them that really brings up the gameplay's story and gives you a great motivation as to why you should keep doing what you're doing.

    -The story of the game is pretty great, it's got a lot of turns and twists, and especially the reveal of the actual villain that caught me off guard too. A lot of the game's plot points for dungeons that involve certain characters being important, also has a focus(at least in my interpretation) how they struggle with their inner demons or some form of secret/way they are as a person and by the end of the dungeon they've confronted that and accepted what they know. It's really cool!

    -The soundtrack is 10/10. Go listen to it. That is all.

    -With it being Persona 4 Golden, it also brings the things the Vita version brought differently than the original version in 2008.

    Cons:
    -Some minor graphical issues, nothing too major, but there were some noticeable hiccups.

    Still my favorite RPG, yes it is not perfect, no game or media is, but everything in this game just clicks so good, the themes, the music, the battle system, the social links.
    An instant classic reccomended for all rpg fans.
    This is the only rpg i have ever given a 10 besides FF6

    I’m about 8 hours in right now and am absolutely stoked that this game has FINALLY hit PC. Just rescued a certain princess and completed the first arc. I have had no issues with the game crashing or no sound as I’ve seen some reviews on steam have. Only thing I’ve noticed was slight hiccups in the anime cutscenes and when doing an All Out Attack, there are stutters in the animation whenI’m about 8 hours in right now and am absolutely stoked that this game has FINALLY hit PC.     I had a long review written up for why I give it a 10 but I accidentally hit the back button and it all got deleted. Just play the game. The dungeons may feel a little bland by today's standards but this game is from 2008 (ps2) Jump into to the game with that mindset. Travel back to 2008 for one the best JRPGs of that time.     An enhanced edition with many improvents of the classic ps2 JRPG, Persona 4 one of the best games ever with addicting gameplay, excellent storytelling, nice clean & slick artstyle, you simply can't miss out on this game.

    Stays true to the original and not only expands on it but also improves it. If you are a fan of turn based RPG then this is a must play and a great introduction to the Shin Megami Tensei universe.

    This is great game(in my personal opinion story is better than in p5), port itself is ok(it is not a remake so don't expect up to days graphic), technically it works but there are framerate hiccups when game change resolution and framerate(when transferring between animated cutscene and game or some longer animations in general).

    Been a while, really. Been a while since I played a game this good. Been a while since I've last sunken 70 hrs into a game in a single fortnight.

    I have a lot of feelings about this game, all of them strong. I heard about Persona a bit here and there before, but since they were Playstation locked, and my PS4 is 2k miles away for me right now, I had to wait for its PC release. I    Been a while, really. Been a while since I played a game this good. Been a while since I've last sunken 70 hrs into a game in a single fortnight.

    I have a lot of feelings about this game, all of them strong. I heard about Persona a bit here and there before, but since they were Playstation locked, and my PS4 is 2k miles away for me right now, I had to wait for its PC release.

    I stumbled upon P4G on a steam sale, and now I wish I could've paid full price to support Atlus even more, make them bring P5R to PC faster.

    But enough gushing, let's get down to business:

    Pros:
    - THE WRITING. For the love of god this is how you write a mystery, how you write plot twists, how you write characters, how you write chemistry and humor. The characters are high-schoolers but they could have easily been adults without changing much of the themes handled. Mature, but not without their pinch of craziness because the game was made by people who know how to balance things out.
    The end of the game really felt like saying goodbye to a group of my own friends. Bravo.
    - Visuals. Now, this is a decade-old game. Technical mastery is not something I expected. But even then, the updated Inaba does the job. The dungeons are innovative in their art styles, the interface is also super stylized.
    - Personas. They're the core of the dungeon side of gameplay, and they're a fantastic core. They allow for such flexibility of builds, for some very creative uses of their skills, and they're cool. Izanagi FTW.
    -THE MUSIC. I'm a sucker for games that have a good soundtrack, and this one blows a lot of other soundtracks out of the water. You definitely feel the late 2000s-early 2010s vibe, and that's awesome. The max s link music makes me shiver, the dungeon battle osts get my blood pumping, Never More makes me choke on my own tears.
    And how could I not mention the opening? Catchy, rhythmic, perfect... Never skipped it once.
    - The slice of life aspect of the game is also perfectly mastered. The s links are well-thought-out, advance naturally, you can get a part-time job, you have to actually remember your courses to ace your exams... For 70 hrs, I was back in high school.
    - Choices that matter. Sometimes games offer choices, mostly they're just illusions (ain't that right, Horizon: Zero Dawn? Joking I still like you). Here, a bad choice can lead you to a bad ending. Simple. And good.

    Cons: Yes, there are a few.
    - While I loved the dungeons, their design sometimes felt lacking in both clarity and complexity if that makes sense.
    - For god's sake, implement an autosave feature. And that's because...
    - ...I crashed a few times after 1.5 hrs crawling through a dungeon. Having to redo an entire dungeon I *just* almost cleared because I forgot to exit and save (or just didn't have the time to do it) is not a good experience.

    9.5/10 GG EZ.
    One of my favorite games ever, and I'm probably about to plunge back in with a NG+ in order to fuse you-know-who as soon as I can.

    Best JRPG I ever played and I'm excited to play P5R Day One whenever it finally graces PC with its presence.

    The aspects that make Persona 4 a video game are definitely fun and engaging, but nothing mind blowing. The turn based battle system is as standard as it gets for a JRPG. Finding enemy weaknesses is definitely satisfying.     The aspects that make Persona 4 a video game are definitely fun and engaging, but nothing mind blowing. The turn based battle system is as standard as it gets for a JRPG. Finding enemy weaknesses is definitely satisfying. I've read criticism of the game's randomly generated dungeons, but I honestly didn't think they were much of a weakness. I still had a lot of fun exploring the dungeons and actually appreciated how predictable they became.

    The story and especially character development is what makes this game such a work of art. The main detective story itself is really well done - it was suspenseful and definitely gives the player a lot of incentive to keep playing and finding out what is really going on with all the killings in town. There is also a huge theme of city life vs. rural life going on, and the developers of the game did such a masterful job of depicting the importance of relationships and growth of heart that is much more possible in a small knit community as opposed to a metropolis.

    I don't know if I can describe how much I enjoyed the characters and their interactions, but I'll try. This is my first Persona game, and the inter-relatedness of the social links, personas, and combat are such a good metaphor for how things are in actual life. The game really operates on the idea that we become stronger and better equipped to handle the dangers of life by strengthening our relationship with our friends and 'family', however it is defined. There is certainly strength in dealing with an issue alone, but it's almost never a sustainable endeavor. All of the characters that you develop social links with share intentions, secrets, plans, vulnerabilities, and their sense of personhood with you throughout the playthrough. Their growth and realizations throughout the game are unbelievably rich and deep. The amazing thing is that almost all of the dialogue is moving and convincing. I almost never felt that something that was expressed by the characters was lame or half-baked. I also have to give the developers credit for certain scattered moments of humor throughout the game. Some of the scenes involving food in this game are so hilarious.

    The music in this game is so good and definitely helps to hammer home the emotional impact of certain scenes. 'Reach Out To The Truth' - battle theme is such a classic, as well as many of the other tracks.

    There are a few things that I really didn't like about the game that kept it from being a 10/10 for me. First off, I feel like the game is unnecessarily hard, even on normal. There were a lot of times, especially early on, where I was going through the dungeon and got one-shotted by normal enemies. In this game, if your main character dies, it's over. Thankfully you can start over from the floor of the dungeon you're on, but it still can knock out a lot of progress. One boss in particular in the middle of the game was so infuriating that I had to lower the difficulty to beat it. I almost stopped playing the game because of this. Towards the latter half of the game, I did a better job of grinding so it was much easier, but I still felt this was a weakness.

    My second gripe with the game is its structure towards the end. There are multiple endings you can get, and this is definitely a game where your choices have SEVERE consequences. I guess choices in games are good, but I like games that are generally linear and structured so that you can easily reach the end. I made a mistake at some point and got one of the 'bad' endings, which left me annoyed. I did try again after doing some research and got the ending I wanted (it was worth the effort), but I really don't like that this game allows for game-breaking choices.

    Thirdly, I feel like the game also drags on for a bit longer than it needs to be. It's nothing too crazy but I feel like a portion of the game was a little unnecessary.

    All in all, i highly recommend Persona 4 Golden. It's definitely not just a great JRPG, but an experience that'll trigger feelings of nostalgia and reflection on the player's end for sure.    … Expand

    Not a perfect port, but I'm so happy they finally brought this to PC. It's likely my favourite game of all time, and up there with Persona 5 Royal as the two best non-classical JRPGs out there.
    Awesome cast of characters, fun story, great up-beat vibe. Love it.
    I can't wait til the modding community goes wild either.

    The Game is just to good I was waiting years for a release of Persona 4 Golden that was on a system easier to get then the vita. I'm enjoying the nice unlocked frame rate and higher resolution then the vita the game it just runs so nice on my desktop and laptop.

    The defining game this year and its not even from this year. Compare it to western games it handles sensitive topics in a respectful way and deals with dark storylines in a light hearted warm manner.

    This is what Western Story based games try to be but they are to busy pandering they forget how to craft a great story.

    Gameplay is great! An Japanese style RPG with deep mechanics and some of the stats affect dialogue choices ala Western Style RPG! its a rare turn based combat game that still is acceptable in this age of RPGS using action games and shooters as their means of combat.

    This is the greatest game ever made and that is not a bold statement a lot of people agree. Japanese games have overthrown the western side of gaming sans (CD Projekt and Rockstar Games) and has proven that indie dev wrong.    … Expand

That aside, let's get to the game itself.

    As this is new to Steam, and to a majority of people who never had a PS Vita, it should be known that Persona 4 Golden is, indeed, an old game, with dated graphics. It's a little better than what Persona 3 had, which isn't exactly saying much, but it's enough to make it a much better experience. The theme of the game can be described, without spoiling anything, as a "Scooby Doo movie in the boonies."

    Persona games always follow a certain theme throughout the game; whether it be a genre of music, a colour scheme, or the ways in which the characters in the game develop, they often stick out because of just how well they execute this. Persona 4 Golden is no exception.

    From characters who make you nostalgically dream of times which were better, comfier, and much more wholesome, to the new music added in the Golden remake which soothes your heart. The characters in Persona 4 Golden all have great depth to them (with a single exception; no spoilers, won't mention), and the way in which they develop, act, and speak to not only the main character, but also to the person behind the screen, invoked, at least for me, strong feelings of empathy, of understanding, and of acceptance.

    P4G exemplified near tremendously how a game should treat social issues. My only gripe would be that Yosuke is a little bit of a homophobe; that could very easily be justified as "Teenagers being none the wiser", or "being edgy with your jokes", but it was still a bit odd, and out of place. Aside from that, however, everything pinned the nail on the head. Truth in media, women's issues in the workplace, toxic masculinity (I hate the word as it's almost always misused, but this game tackled the genuine thing, and realized it as an issue that men should be helped through, not scrutinized and mocked for), and last but not least, the power of friendship. Sorry, last point is a bit of a joke, but it's also quite an important plot device in practically every recent Persona game, but in Persona 4, it's easily the most prevalent.

    Now, a quick summary for every aspect of this game:

    Art design: 7/10. Although outdated in modern times, it's still not half bad at all. Persona designs are, as always, very interesting, but it's in the characters where the art excels. It's hard to explain it without spoiling a few characters, so I'll refrain from doing such.

    Sound design: 10/10. I'm no big fan of giving out scores of 10, but Persona's music almost always deserves it, and as I've mentioned in regards to others aspects of this game already, Persona 4 Golden is no exception. The introduction of the song "Snowflakes" really sets this rating in stone for me, as that song manages to invoke the strongest feeling of nostalgia and warmth within me than any story or media has ever accomplished yet, save for maybe Undertale.

    Story design: 8/10. I've always thought that Persona 4 was a bit lacking in the story department, but putting my biased goggles aside from my experience playing Persona 3 and Persona 5, the story in this game is still superb. It is only in the shadow of those two games which the story of Persona 4 seems a bit worse, but I often find it unjustly being referred to as a bad story; by no means is it such. Of course, though; won't spoil. Unfortunately, I cannot sing its praises much without doing so. I can safely say, however, that it succeeded in gripping my heart throughout my playthrough, and had me eagerly playing the game throughout its entirety. There was scarcely a moment in the game in which I felt I should take a break; for better, or for worse, that's up to you to decide.

    Character design: 9/10. Persona 4 excels in exactly this department; it's characters are exceptional when compared to the other Persona games, and even when compared to many other games in the modern gaming landscape. The S-Links in Persona games always show to the player the struggles which the main cast faces outside of their forages into the different world. In Persona 4, their struggles with who they are, what they wish to become, what they mean to others, and what others mean to them; suffice it to say that I have never felt more able to relate to video game characters than I could for the characters here. Their design is full of love and warmth, brimming with that pervasive sense of nostalgia which is ever-present throughout this game, and yet again, for better or for worse, you'll likely leave this game desiring such personal relationships as the characters in this game have with one another.

    Overall: 9/10. The wear of this game hasn't worn out just how stellar it is to experience, and I urge everyone give it a chance when they can.    … Expand

    I picked this up as soon as it came out, and then after 139 hours of doing the story twice, I feel great! If you're thinking about P4G, you need to get it. 10/10 easily.

    Persona 4 is a good game but with some annoying aspects. The story is amazing. I like the emotional small stories. Even the side quests are interesting. There is no exploration per say. The thing work with a school calendar and rely on creating social links. So, the day by day stuff is quite boring. You get a lot of the same in terms of events. You are limited to 5-6 areas, and 5-6Persona 4 is a good game but with some annoying aspects. The story is amazing. I like the emotional small stories. Even the side quests are interesting. There is no exploration per say. The thing work with a school calendar and rely on creating social links. So, the day by day stuff is quite boring. You get a lot of the same in terms of events. You are limited to 5-6 areas, and 5-6 dungeons. The fighting is entertaining and generally solid. I wasn't impress on the weapons and armor upgrades. It rely a lot of a single store system and a subpar redeem items. One of which, the item exchange, was completely useless. It took 40 hours to complete. I give it 75%. I played Persona 5 on a whim not knowing what to expect or if I would even like it; but needless to say, I became a huge fan.     Awesome game, I played this one after 5 and I definitely missed certain improvements 5 had. But this one is nearly as good. The dungeons are super simple compared to p5. But the story is great and the characters are amazing. I loved all of the main cast in this game even more than 5s cast. However the optional side characters were lacking compared to 5s, still good characters though.

    Although not as fleshed out as P5, the combat is still fun, stylish, and quite frankly, more challenging than P5. But what got me really hooked on to the game is the story and the characters. The mysterious and detective-like story is so fun to unravel with the all the loveable characters. The dialogue is quite funny and its really like watching a really good anime to be honest. However, some of the social links do miss the mark for me as some were not really that interesting to me, but I am comparing it to P5 where all the social links are really to go through maybe except for one.

    The UI and the graphics are outdated, sure, at the end of the day the PC version was just a port. But if you stick through it and just enjoy the story the graphics become more of an after-thought. AND THE MUSIC IS AMAZING! you might find yourself either singing along or tapping some part of your body to the beat or even both.

    Overall, I do recommend this JRPG, I can see why people find Persona 4 so iconic in the genre.    … Expand

    This is my favorite game of all time, it is so much fun and it's so insane that it's off the Vita for everyone else to enjoy. I'll gladly play it again and again, I love these characters so much. They legit feel like family to me. They all grow and experience some crazy **** together and it's refreshing to see the outcome of it all. Please play this game, it means so much to me.

    Great JRPG game. In some ways I like this better than persona 5. Only issue I've had were a few crashes in one of the dungeons but after reinstalling no crash issues. Great characters to get to know. Awesome game!

    It stays true to the original... except the stuttering of the op, which to me, is a critical experience right when you boot up the game.
    Other than that, it's Persona 4 Golden, an already perfect game, on PC, with improved graphics and framerate.

It is just incredible how visual impactful this pc port is since I am so accustomed to a tiny screen and barely 30+ fps gameplay.    … Expand

    Amazing game, only issue is that the anime cuutscenes (like the one that plays when you boot it) are borderline unwatchable due to intense visual and audio stuttering. Other than that I highly recommend as the cuutscenes are few and far between enough that it hasn't hindered the experience too much

    Aside from the opening cutscene, the rest of the game runs perfectly and exactly like the original game and stays true to its origin. The combination of hilarious great characters, gameplay, and most of all, the music that definitely compliments the turn based RPG system.

    Actual lessons in japanese mythology would have been interesting and relevant rather than knowing that Jack'o lanterns were made of turnips or the medical name for brainfreeze.
    You can see the twist coming but you don't fully get how it's gonna turn out and that's great.
    I imagine the game could be extremely frustrating if playing blind as **** up the good/gooder endings seems very easy.
    The original ending hits hard with its 4th wall breaking and the epilogue added by Golden just diminishes the impact of it.

    Very time consuming : 70+ hours WITH a guide (Do NOT play this game without one)
    Somewhat worthwile time investment.

Dialogue, superb, the best of any game i have ever played.

The addition of "dating sim" part feels like lackluster attempt to generate any interest in these walking stereotypes. The treatment of LGBT characters. namely Naoto and Kanji is simply abbhorent, hell, even for its time. This is to say nothing of the mass of misogyny thrown at main female characters and the constant sexualization of Yukiko by men older than her. On the topic there is simply the continuing efforts of older women to initiate romance with the high schooler MC. You may call it a sign of times, well, for one, there is plenty of games that treated these topics with more nuance even on the console, and two, contemporary player has far more opinions for better gameplay without these issues. And for what? For what does one suffer through these teenagers accusing their suspected gay friend of being an actual predator? Once again for the mediocre dungeon crawler? Cookie Cutter crafting with simple advancing gear with few choices to spice it up? Insufferable boss fights (with Golden outright removing type advantages in some cases just to make it more unfun) ? I understand and do not blame these chasing nostalgia, as I have a lot of guilty pleasures but I do not feel this title serves newcomer with any gameplay worthy of consideration and with its genuine contempt for its LGBT and female character I would recommend outright skipping out on it.… Expand

    Honestly. This is a betrayal. Atlus tricked me into buying a Vita just to play P4G. Now I see it's easy to access on PC? This is messed up. And the Graphics look way too shiny. The original P4 offered better usage of Fog Graphics that gave the game atmosphere. P4G doesn't know what atmosphere is! The Final boss has no character development

There's also a handful of QoL improvements that got carried to P5, such as seeing how many chapters are in a book and being able to choose inherited skills when doing a fusion.

    Now for the negative comparisons. These are all subjective. I don't think the story is as good as P5's, though it's not bad by any means. I also think the cast overall is weaker. For every good character like Kanji, Ryotaro, Adachi, and the Strength duo, you get a Yosuke, Yukiko, Tower, Sun duo, etc. The art style is also far inferior. The soundtrack is also not as good, but like the story, is still good. The biggest complaint I have about P4/P4G is the randomly generated dungeons. They completely lack the charm of P5/P5R's static dungeons.    … Expand

    I tried to play the game on Steam, but it crashed 5 times during my 3 hour of playtime and I gave up. I've tried all the common solutions (disable overlays, reinstall GPU drivers etc.) and nothing. From what I've seen on the web it's a common problem which Atlus refuses to acknowledge. A pity, because the game seems pretty fun and I wanted to give it a spin.

    The battle system in particular isn't very interesting, enemies have weaknesses but it never makes any sense because there isn't any visual cues to what enemy is weak to what so you just randomly try different abilities until something eventually works which is trial and error at best. What makes this worse is that enemy designs are repeated in later levels with different weaknesses so there is no consistency, eventually they just give you a character that flat out tells you what the enemy is weak to removing all thought from the process.

    The stuff you do outside of the dungeon crawling is incredibly dull and shows just how bad the pacing is in general. There are actual hours of gameplay time that youll spend just talking to people, Persona 3 did this too but at least they let you choose when to go into the main dungeon whenever you wanted, you had to choose when was a good time to grind so the game let YOU dictate the pace in stead of just railroading you like 4 does. Stuff like this isnt interesting, its sleep inducing.

    For as much people crow about how the game lets you be a detective the way the game goes about it is mind numbing. Before some dungeons the game forces you to talk to random npc's until you can enter and whats stupid is that there is no logical way to go about it, you just talk to literally everyone until something happens.

    The characters themselves aren't as interesting as fans make them out to be. The only characters that were thought provoking were Naoto and Kanji which to be fair are well written and have great voice actors behind them. The rest felt under developed, Yusuke is bored of country life, chie is jealous of yukiko, yukiko doesn't want to work at an inn her whole life, teddy is a twink in a furry suit. Its pretty easy to see which characters got the snub in terms of development. Also anyone who likes this game was a loser who didnt have friends and used this as a substitute.    … Expand

    First things first I just want to say that the game's composer, Shoji Meguro, is a f'n god. Just listen to the Persona 5 or 4 OST, it's amazing. There is no other composer whose music upgrades and fits a game so much as his to the Persona series. Meguro-san, thank you!. The game itself has it all.     First things first I just want to say that the game's composer, Shoji Meguro, is a f'n god. Just listen to the Persona 5 or 4 OST, it's amazing. There is no other composer whose music upgrades and fits a game so much as his to the Persona series. Meguro-san, thank you!.

    The game itself has it all. A peaceful rural town that's suddenly hunted by a mysterious serial killer and a protagonist who discovers that there is an alternate world inside the TV's. An amazing cast of characters that genuinely feel like your real friends and about whom you'll shed a couple of tears when this game ends.

    Now concerning the length: it's long. Like really long but it never feels like it artificially stretches things out. The 80 - 100 hrs are a mix of going to school, developing your relationships with people (Social Links as they are called in-game), spending time with friends, working part-time jobs and clearing the dungeons.
    The dungeons itself have a specific theme to the characters they belong to, since the dungeons design is a product of the characters subconsciousness.

    The graphics: I mean sure they're outdated in 2023 and in 2008 there were games out there that looked better (FF 12 for example), but the game still looks good and seriously this game is too f'n good to be reduced to it's graphics and thus be missed out on.

    Let me emphasize this one more time: It's one of the best games ever made. It's shorter than Persona 5 (which itself is a content-colossus) but with approx 80 - 100 hrs it's still filled with content and an amazing plot with some of the most intriguing characters with whom you'll share fun and wholesome moments.

The story has plenty of bite and will suck you in. More to the point, this game will educate and inspire you! And don't be ashamed to play it through once on VERY EASY difficulty. There's a steep learning curve and you'll likely want to replay it at least once. Also, be wary of the big hospital scene on December 3rd -- there's a series of trick questions that you must answer correctly, all six of them, to be admitted to the good ending. Goof it up, and you'll fast-forward to a very unsatisfactory conclusion. And the last save is thirty minutes before the questions start. Two of the answers to each question are plausible, so if you don't know the key you are 0.5^6 likely to succeed. That's a 98.44% chance of failure according to my pocket calculator.     After beating this game i am kinda speechleess. Tbh gameplay is still tedios sometimes, not like in P3, but still it's not even close to P5 level. Storytelling feels kinda weird, espicially if you are trying to get True ending(I reccomend to check guides so you can get it on your 1st try, on Steam you can find pretty solid guides without spoilers). it feels like they had so many ideas andAfter beating this game i am kinda speechleess.     The best part of the game is the Investigation Team and their chemistery inside of this group. I am actually surprised how many memorable events this guys had. And i more surprised that P5 characters dont have such deep development of their relationships inside of Phantom Thievs.

Crashes every hour makes me constantly lose progress on dungeons; i crashed during the final boss battle so I technically didn't "finish" the game because I ragequit right after and just watched the ending on youtube. -2 stars just forGame was pretty good.     First, I want to blame Shoji Meguro for making me P4G this game so much. The soundtrack is not only 100% perfect, but it also blends extemely well with the tone of the game. Every single song fits like a glove. Whether you're dungeon crawling, maxing out social links, fighting bosses or just walking around Inaba. If the soundtrack sucked, going from one place to another to do anything in this MASSIVE RPG would be boring as hell! The soundtrack is well produced, different, creative, whimsical, ominous, sad, joyful, angry and beautiful.
    After P5, I didn't think they would pull it off... But they did! Thanks, Shoji!

    The gameplay is typical Persona. Max social links, fight shadows, progress the story, manage your inventory, personas and stats. It's a loop that can get very tedious if you're not invested in the characters, the setting and the story. But thanks to the AMAZING cast and some great (and kinda quirky) voice acting, I couldn't help but be sucked into my character's life. I actually cared about my party members and actually laughed with the writing. Side-characters' social links' stories were also very intesting to explore. Even school life was nice.
    During dungeons, things could get a little hectic, especially since this game can get quite tough and the time limits give me an anxiety crisis. This wasn't a walk in the park like most of P5, but I loved the challenge. Exploiting enemy weaknesses and getting your party/personas tactics right for a hard boss made up for some truly captivating moments.
    If you've played any other Persona, you know what to expect from its gameplay. The thing is... this one feels excepcionally good to play.

    As for the story: I loved it! It's slice of life done right.
    The murder mystery is very well done, gripping me from beginning to end, making my brain figure out every clue, motivation and explanation for the things presented in the case.
    But although the crime thriller was quite fascinating, with a few unexpected twists, the core of this story is your main character and his friends. The time you spend with them is precious. You watch every character grow up. You experience their life in school, their teenage dramas, their hardest moments, romances, fights, and brightest hours. Teenage life is turned to a spectacle thanks to pacing, themes and writing.
    Sure, there are anime and JRPGs cliches floating around the entire game, but I'm used to it. You'll learn to love it too.

    The game might be extraordinary, but it's not flawless.
    Somethings feels dated. Especially if you've played Persona 5. And I'm not even talking about graphics.
    The dungeons are charming, but they're not well designed at all. Infinite corridors that gets dull pretty quick. The unhealthy amount of griding you have to do in this game may also drag this it down. And the problem is that the grind here is NECESSARY! You don't get a lot of money in fights and it takes some time until you level up. It can hamper the dungeons' fun-factor.
    And I know it's part of the Persona experience, but goddamnit, there are MANY missable events! You can miss entire side-stories if you don't manage your time well AND know exactly what you're doing. Just getting the true ending, with the secret dungeon and all, felt completely random. THANK GOD for guides...
    And last, but not least, sexualization is once again a problem. Half of Teddie and Yosuke's conversations are about women. And I know that they're adolescents, but come on! It's quite unnecessary.

    Persona 4 Golden felt like a wonderful cozy and mysterious experience. Inaba's atmosphere, the perfect soundtrack, challenging gameplay and a beautiful story feels elegant and joyful.
    If you love RPGs and have a bunch of free time in your hands, please try this delightful game. You won't forget it that easily.

    -Some japanese cliches (like a pop idol falling in love with you for example) , I'm not a big fan of that personally
    -The start is very traditional, the game takes some time before gaining strength.

    As a new comer to the persona series, I love this. I have seen others play Persona 5 royal and I have been play SMT series for a while now. The game itself is full of story and life, as well as little fun event here and there. The biggest thing that hit me was how each of the bosses have so much meaning and depth behind them.     Story 10/10 The best story in the franchise. Really "mature", a lot of conflicts, a lot of decisions that actually matter.
    Characters 10/10 To simplify, the main cast, just perfect, well developed, well designed, i really liked them. And Adachi is a really really great villain. Visuals 10/10 In PC this games looks and runs perfect Soundtrack 10/10 Amazing.    This game is Perfect

I'm not really sure what to make of this game - I feel like if I try to think about this like a video game critic I would give this a 4/10 but if I tried to rate its entertainment value and how much I enjoyed the experience of playing it, I'd easily give it a 9/10.… Expand

But this game as another gameplay half other than the vn part which is the real rpg and let me tell you it would be really good if every dungeons wouldnt be just a reskin of the previous one, but they are. There is NOTHING in dungeon except chests and enemies (which you can easily avoid all the times and which looks all the same), just some flat hallways. Even if I like the card sistem at the end of each battle I don't understand why use it for chating personas, they chose to not make the enemies the persona you are gonna catch unlike other Persona games.
    Yet I have to admit the combat is one of the best I ever played in a turn based game, it's so satisfing to hit an enemy weakness or to smash them when they are down, it was the element of the game with conviced me of not quitting the game.
    After the first 3 bosses (or 4, depend watch you count) dungeons and bosses became so easy it's actualy impossible to die, you have so many ways to regain HP, SP and to withstand death hits that you really are gonna have to try hard to die (I played in hard difficulty), and that is a shame because the only reason why the first 3 bosses are hard is because you don't have many abilities yet which is of course less fun, so right when it start to get really fun with all the abilities the is no more challenge.
    The plot is an investigatio which turn to something else toward the end, it's good and intriguing but I think for such a plot there was not need for so many hours and in the first finale fase (the one you initialy think is the finale) it became so uninteresting that I was close to quit the game, but for the true ending it reconnect everything and it all makes sense, so all considered.
    The soundtrack did impress me, I found the same 3 ost way to abuse in ever VN part, the best ost is the battle one but is always the same and you will get bored of it in more than 100h, but I have to praise the ost of the end boss, so many and so exiciting.
    Going about the true ending, I can only say it's great, the ost are amazing, the boss looks intimidating and the aftermath is very sweet, I think the ending save the game.
    I know it's a old game and I know I use expect modern standards to value it but I can only give a vote to the enjoyment I got and it wasnt much.
    Only play it if you really like slice of life visual novels because that is what you are gonna get for half of the game, the rest is between good and great if we exclude the dungeons.    … Expand

    Graphics - P4G came out 4 years after P4 which was released in 2008. And we're just now getting a PC port in 2020. So yes, the graphics are quite dated.
    Port - Although i personally didn't experience any major issues with the port, I know that a lot of people did so it's necessary to mention this.

    Overall, P4G is an all-around enjoyable JRPG with a lot to offer even in 2020.    … Expand

    Persona 4 Golden was largely considered one of the PlayStation Vita’s must-play titles and for good reason. Inaba’s small-town feel, the fantastic cast, incredibly personable dialogue, excellent audio, and strong gameplay combine to make the game a superb all-around experience. Though there are no distinct advantages of playing this version over the Vita one, its release on PC should be rightfully celebrated for giving a whole new set of RPGamers the chance to play a game that resonates just as strongly now as it first did.
