grind without fixing the main problem. This game is built like a game that should be free with microtransactions. It gets really repetetive and the safes take too long to drill even with the perks that shorten it (lol 10-15% reduction gee wow) if you survive long enough to make it through the first safe door (the drill will break about 3-4 times) then you are met with ANOTHER FREAKING DOOR TO DRILL which again breaks over and over, THEN (one mission in particular) you sometimes have to spend a bunch of time opening about 100 safe deposit boxes (it is SO freaking asanine) and at that point you have multiple sheild guys coming at once that cannot be killed unless you get behind them. Also stealth is mostly just frustrating and not worth the time and effort. The benefits dont outweigh those of just blowing every security guards head off and getting the heist started.

solid 7/10 but not a decimal better.

It also is a bit lacking on content, I only started playing it a few months ago, at which time there had already been several new missions released, I imagine it was much worse at the games release, however the developer is still slowly releasing new content, so this will only get better with time.

If they managed to fix the desync issues and added content a bit faster, I would bump up the rating to a 9, if they managed to get rid of all the hackers that infest the game, it would be a clear 10.

Pulling off an incredibly hard job is a great feeling. So if you have a couple friend who will play this game with you then its definitely worth it. Otherwise I'd suggest giving this game a pass. There is a single player mode but no real story to speak of and the AI is awful. More often a hindrance than a help. Expand

Besides the Fact that robbing banksters is fun, this is one of the best games when it boils down to teamplay required. The overall gfx are not too goo, but the overkill team is great with fixing and ptching things, a few weeks after release there is already the No. 11 update out, sweet!

With that said, there are some parts of this game that they could have spent more time on. The game looks decent but there are a few lousy textures. When you get up close the floors, tables and a few other things aren't the sharpest. But, they work and they don't look appalling.

For me, the real problem lies in the levels or the heist themselves. They're so much fun and I really enjoy them but after a while... well you've played all the maps multiple times. By the time I had 10 hours logged I had played every heist multiple times. Yeah, the level design changes a little bit, the vault will be somewhere different or the guards might change but over all, there are no major changes and it's the same lay out. I'm sure they will release more heist and different "maps" but they need to do it quick because the maps are already running stale along with the heist themselves.

They did a wonderful job with customization. There are so many different weapon mods and perks to discover. You can fully customize your safe house which is a bit pointless but fun to do at the same time. There are a lot of new guns in the game all with unique weapon mods. The "perks" are absolutely amazing and are actually worth it. For $30, I recommend you pick up this game. Just make sure you have people to play with, the AI's are absolutely useless and it's not always fun to play with random people...

The content is there, you have roughly 30+ mission to complete with AI or other players, a huge amount of guns and upgrades to unlock, customizable masks, talent trees, a hideout to decorate and several difficulties to choose from.

The missions have far greater variation, from bank jobs to attacking rival gangs, assassinations, cooking meth or escaping the FBI after an ambush in the getaway, none feel the same.

You can tackle most missions differently to suit your playstyle, you can try to be sneaky or go in all guns blazing and the success of each approach is can be affected by your loadout and talent choices, thankfully you can reset your talents at any time.

The biggest let down and real atmosphere killer are the visuals. The world is completely static, there is no movement in trees, no objects have physics, the engine feels dated,I can't help but imagine how amazing this game would be on the Cryengine.

The audio does it's job well, the music is once again excellent, creating tension and thrills where it is needed. The SFX are good but lack the quality of other FPS.

Is payday 2 worth it? If you're a fan of the first one then it is a big YES, if you're new to the payday franchise then it is just yes.

After contemplating on all my gameplays, I think I'm starting to understand why this game that I was so excited for got such a lower than expected score.

This game really is a unique fps/rpg game that fulfills what I always wanted in L4D2; being able to buy new weapons, earning weapon mods, and filling out skill trees. Firing any weapon in this game is powerful and the music really keeps the intensity going. I've always had the fantasy of playing this type of rpg/online fps. However, Payday 2 still stops my dream short...

Currently, Payday 2 can only be the skeleton of what I've dreamed of playing. I know that there's suppose to be 5 expansions throughout the rest of the year, but why couldn't they have been in the game at the start? From my in-game experience, there are about 7 main missions that the players can choose to do. But even through my 6 hour game session, I was able to play most of the missions (some even several times) and everything seems to seem the same after a while.

Part of the reason why I say the game gets tedious too is because there are a lot of people who don't play to the objectives. There were plenty of random players who just wanted to shoot up cops and civilians, even though the objective was putting a drill on a vault. If that's the case, then Overkill should implement missions that involve just purely shooting. Let there be more diversity of missions rather than grab this and take it to the van/boat/chopper.

Bottom Line: Payday 2 is a fun game to play with your friends and it has the high potential to be a superb and unique fps/rpg of 2013/2014... but it still has a long way to go. Let's just hope the expansions make this game what it realizes itself to be.

Payday 2 is breath of fresh air in a games market that is flooded with generic rehashes. Is it worth it for $30? I would say yes I, I have already logged 56 hours into the game which is more than I can say for some full priced games out there. However, connection problems are a big issue. Make no mistake this is a co op game, you will be sorely disappointed if you buy this to play by yourself and it's very frustrating when someone leaves mid way through your game and another person drops in and the load time can take a while and you have to just stare at your screen while the game is paused waiting for them to join, totally kills the mood. Also there is nothing worse than doing a 3 day heist and all of a sudden you lose connection to the host, all exp, loot and card drop opportunities wasted. Even joining a game can be a frustrating experience at times and these are the biggest issues with this game right now. I have not played much yet of game update 5 and that is because all these issues are still very much alive in the game right now.

I did have problems with crashes but since I disabled the steam overlay I have not crashed since so I'm happy about that but this game still needs work and more variety, it doesn't take long to start feeling pretty grindy and cash is no issue once you get to level 30 or so as you can't buy and attachments for weapons you can only get them in card drops which baffles me.

Stealth is pretty much worthless and not fleshed out at all, and even if you do get lucky and pull that bank heist off without alerting anyone the time you spent doing it would have been better spent going loud from the start and finishing the heist much quicker and moving onto the next one. No incentive or reward for stealth makes the stealth tree next to worthless right now which is disappointing.

If they can sort out these terrible network issues, rework Stealth so it actually becomes viable and throw in some cheap DLC that adds more variety to the game (a quick example would be that certain masks intimidate hostages more than others no matter what your spec is) this game COULD be well on it's way to being a solid 8/10 but it's just not there at the moment but the potential certainly is. A fun game to play with friends or just jump straight into it with randoms as I do but be prepared for some frustration and not much to do once you have put a decent amount of hours in it

It's a great game, you can do stealth missions, the payday community is awesome, if you don't have friend to play, you can meet new great people in multiplayer. The game is just a little repetitious, this makes the game a little boring after playing a lot of it, Overkill should put more maps by dlc or by updates (free dlc).

Payday 2 is very well executed crime heist FPS. With a few tweaks it could become one of the greatest gamesof all time (or at least that I've ever played).

    The Good:
    * Characters actually have character - great voice acting and styling for each one
    * Multiple modes of difficulty
    * Tracking your takings after each job is fun
    * Massive selection of weapons and gear
    * Regular updates - the game is well supported by its Devs
    * Every heist is very different and has an excellent supporting storyline/synopsis
    * Big sense of reward after completing a long job
    * Fair priced DLC that is only needed by the host of that heist - genius in my eyes

    The Bad
    * Crime.net is the games matchmaking system and it's terrible
    * Crime.net filters don't filter everything
    * Playing alone can take ages to find a good group
    * Cheaters (its a co-op game but still annoying)
    * Updates can take an age to download

In short, buy this game when it is on-sale and be the cool kid that doesn't buy a single DLC.

El juego es super divertido. Los golpes y las misiones cuando se hacen con amigos es sinónimo de risas y entretenimiento. Pero por favor, saquen la maldita secuela de una vez y dejen morir este juego.

Some games have by-the-numbers-sequels, offering you more of the same with only tangential alterations to their formula (I'm looking at you, CoD). PAYDAY 2 is not one of those games. PAYDAY 2 is not one of those games. Even if you were to judge it solely on the basis of the number of playable levels, PAYDAY 2 blows PAYDAY: The He!st out of the water. And that's before you consider it's much more in-depth and varied skill and perk system, greater weapon variety and customization, additional playable characters, and excellent musical accompaniment. Regular updates have ensured that this game has earned and maintained a strong following from its players, though it has some of the most ill-behaved and ungrateful examples of such i've ever seen, who a distressing tendancy to auto-kick you simply for having the wrong equipment loadout, as well as other minor "infractions." A means to filter lobbies for either "loud" or "stealth" as a prefered approach is desperately needed. The game also has a bit of an addiction problem with paid DLC, though the fact the other half of the additional content has been completely free is also worthy of note. The game's core experience is very solid, with workable controls and a sense of thrill and challenge, especially with friends along for the ride, and combat that rewards player accuracy and tactical thinking. The game is plagued with bugs and network errors, however, with enemies regularly glitching through walls, famously awkward hitboxes on both the enemies and the players, and regular unexpected disconnects from both lobbies and in-progress games. Nonetheless I must extend Overkill a personal thanks for allowing me to play as Hoxton, my favorite character from the first game, after having to omit him at launch due to Pete Gold having other engagements. Having come from the much-maligned PS3 version of the game and its near-total lack of updates and additional content, the PC version hit me all at once, seemingly doubled in size from what it was at launch. Though a whopping twenty-five levels of Infamy (the game's prestige system, offering a few, paltry rewards for reseting your experience and cash progress) seems just a tad ridiculous, it does certainly seem the kind of game I would play long enough to reset at least once.

10/16/15 update: Regrettably, Overkill software has made the questionable decision to add loot crates and real-money keys a la Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to PAYDAY 2, after being quoted more then once they would do nothing of the sort. I believe these sorts of additions (along with the switch to a free-to-play format) ruined TF2 and attracted the wrong sort of players to that game, and I fully expect it to do the same to this game if this change is permanent. I am turning my review negative until this issue is addressed.

10/20/15: Overkill has responded to widespread complaints and made the drills a possible card drop, meaning the skins can be aquired without spending money. I am pleased with this outcome and am changing my review back to positive, as aside from that I still quite enjoy the game and the other Crimefest 2015 editions.

6/22/16: There's a good game in here somewhere. It just has too many DLCs is all.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.

Payday 2 is an excellent co-op shooter - a vast improvement over the first one. [Sept 2013]

A unique and captivating multiplayer experience that rewards team work over personal glory. But make sure you bring friends for the true experience. [Nov 2013, p.62]
