    Terrible UI and matchmaking.
    Extremely repetetive gameplay.
    Bad gunplay.
    Strangely slow weapon progression.
    DLCs with weapons
    Lag problems
The only plus: you feel like a fuking bank robber
If you are on your payday better buy another game, this is a crappy one.

Your teammates take no objectives whatsoever, instead just lingering around, shooting infinite ammunition. To your utmost frustration, they don't even bother to pick up a bag or flip a switch directly next to them.
    - Stealthiness is limited in unreasonable ways. You have to put dead bodies you want to move into one of your limited body bags, and answering pagers randomly fails.
    - Missions are made challenging in frustratingly dumb ways. Trying to hack a computer? The cops will switch one of three circuit breakers. Of course it's entirely unreasonable to have all three covered, and the cops only need to brush past them to force you to go through the hoops of flipping them and starting the hacking again, all of which takes so much time that doing an entire 3-day job will literally take up to 5 hours.
    - Unlocks. The objective is of course to level up to get unlocks. By limiting the number of body bags you have, or allowing you to reduce the amount of drilling time from ridiculously insanely long, to only insanely long does not a funner game make.
    - Cards. Randomly flipping cards so I can unlock a new mask? Give me a break.

I'm so frustrated by what this game could have been, that I've only begun to hate it for all it's annoyances. These guys simply don't know what makes a game fun.

The constant disconnects and the game constantly pausing while peers (re)connect only adds to the general malaise that is PAYDAY 2.

Things that really need to change:
    - Connectivity errors or random connection dropouts
    - There is no way to see if the games that are hosted are stealth or rambo. This sucks very hard because if you are looking for a stealth game you have to join 7-8 games before you find one.
    - There are too much random bugs (like not being able to drop a bag, i.e. bagbug).
    - Single player (bots) isn't playable. The bots can't do anything but being immortal, revive and shoot.
    - Annoying cardsystem with mask-upgrades all the time. Or pesky XP or money boosts. I want weapon mods, I don't care about masks...
    - Offshore cash isn't useful at all. It became sort-off usefull while the birthday of Pay Day was being celebrated, but even then it was pointless: 30 million dollars for one low grade weaponmod? Great... There should be more uses for offshore account.

    - These are no must for the game to be great, only better: Ways to upgrade and customize your own secret hideout. More weapons would be very handy also. I would like a way of customizing armor as well, it's very ugly right now.

The idea behind the game is brilliant. The execution very, very, VERY bad. Despite all the flaws, bad programming and bugs I rate it a 6 out of 10 because of all the fun I have with it when it works. When the game finally becomes more mature I would rate it higher with no doubt.

Payday 2 is anything but a good Coop shooter. For starters, the voice acting is terrible, so is the mission design. It's an overpriced half finished shooter that does nothing new to re-invent the genre. You might aswell just save your 30€ and pre order GTA V instead.

Some would say Payday 2 feels like a massive improvement to its predecessor Payday: The Heist.

    I, however, disagree.

The game graphically is horrifyingly plain; environments lack detail and often have awful textures which for whatever reason were not present in the beta. This makes no sense whatsoever. As if to add insult to injury: the game runs on an ageing engine which pales in comparison to other games released this year.

Secondly, the AI is abysmal: in the single player you start with two teammates (not three, strangely) with their only real purpose is to shoot the never ending onslaught on Washington's police force. These AI teammates cannot help you with objectives; can't pick up bags and can't even smash store windows to help you so be prepared to do EVERYTHING yourself. The police AI also pales as well, their basic tactics consist of charging your position all the time tossing smoke bombs and occasionally tear gas as they run into you not being conscientious of their surrounding cover.

Thirdly; Crime.net is an absolute p***take. In both the online mode and offline mode you have to sit looking at a Google Earth-esqe map of Washington for the minimum of two minutes waiting for the mission that you want to pop up. The most annoying part of this is each mission that pops up has its own set difficulty: so you have to wait for both the mission you want to pop up AND the difficulty you want to pop up. This infuriates me so much. On the side you can select your mission directly, skipping the waiting time for it to pop up; but you have to spend your goddamn in-game money to buy a contract to go stealing money to make a profit again? WHAT.

Fourth is the overall state of the game itself; the game itself shipped with about FIVE missions originally. The same amount as in the beta I might add. This is a serious lack of content and Overkill have already planned DLC? Fix the bugs first! The levels themselves are not as dynamic as Overkill makes them sound either; there are subtle differences between each time you play the mission but nothing you'll really appreciate as you constantly blast away the police force and constantly repair the goddamn drills that the so-called 'master criminals' have. This seriously makes me question why you can't upgrade your drill unless you do the Technician skill tree? Sigh.

If you can manage to get into a game with your friends however (there's quite a few connection issues going around; then the game can provide a minor modicum on amusement as your team can actually help you grind through the ranks. The music is pretty good when the assaults start and gets you ready for the next wave of enemies; shame there's barely enough time to do anything productive in between these waves.

Also, they took out the Cloaker from the original; which is a shame as I enjoyed the mild thrill of trying to shoot the Sam-Fisher like ninja policeman.

Nothing, though, can keep me recommending it now.

They're trying to actually introduce skins. Yes, P2W skins that completely unbalance the already crippled checks and balances of the weapons in this game. Do NOT buy this game, nor any game from this disgusting developer. The people who made Overkill good are gone, all that's left are disgusting frauds who are simply in this to steal your cash.

Now lets go to the Multiplayer side of the game, I don't deny the game is fun and fast paced, however the community is extremely toxic, the community makes even the worst Call of Duty griefer clans and trolls look good by comparison. The other major problem is DLC DLC DLC-

Payday 2 is best purchased these days when its heavily on-sale, and you've got alot of friends who are willing to run you through the game as such. Do not play with randoms...ever. - Paid Game ($25.00 at full price)

    - More than 20 paid DLCs to date ($5.00-$8.00 each). The most powerful weapons are locked behind DLCs. They've recently rebalanced the weapons to ensure this is the case.

    - Recently introduced micro-transactions involving RNG, so you're never certain you'll get the skin you want ($2.95 for each random drill drop). Also, 80% of the skins look trash.

Had a lot of fun with this game for a long time. This is the only reason I can give as high a rating as a 4 based on what Overkill has recently done. Adding microtransactions to your game is one of the very best ways to say piss on your veteran players, and to give the impression you only care about making money and new players. Overkill you are terrible and should feel terrible.

This is a very disappointing game. Throughout the entire game, I can see flashes of what would be amazing design and amazing gameplay, but it is almost always tarnished or completely broken by poor implementation.

The multiplayer in this game (the only part worth playing, as the game is designed to be social) is based on a peer-to-peer system instead of a client-server system. While this has the benefits of not requiring a server to be set up to play on, it also has huge drawbacks. The netcode only vaguely shows the position of other players, often having them twenty feet behind their actual positions and making things like passing bags a strange and contentious affair. In addition, the enemy AI is based on the lobby leader, so if they have poor upload speed you will see the AI completely stop randomly. Which you may think is beneficial, but I often miss dead-on shots on still targets due to broken and/or nonexistent hitboxes (if you want to clip someone's arm or leg, you have to install a user mod because there are no arm/leg hitboxes).

The large variety of weapons are nice, but functionally it boils down to a couple of simple choices due to extremely poor balancing. Want to do stealth? Use a CAR-4 and Gruber Kurz, because you're not going to need anything else. Want to go in loud? Use an M308 and a Deagle. Due to a recent "rebalancing" of the weapons, there are some ridiculous issues. Shotguns are basically bottom-tier weapons, whereas you can basically one-shot elites with a Deagle. There are other very questionable issues as well. For instance, the Fire Axe and the Great Sword do exactly the same thing, whereas a decorative flagpole does the same thing but faster. Another example is the Empty Palm Kata, which has exactly the same stats as the basic Fist. Why? The EPK is a paid melee and is supposed to be a super-deadly martial art. Why does it do the exact same thing as the basic punch?

The style is all over the place as well. This game can become ridiculous and break its' own tension and theme very easily, whereas the first game maintained a consistent and strong atmosphere. In PD:TH, every heist felt huge and important, like the climax of a heist film - the roots of Payday. In PD2, there is a shotgun blast of heists trying to provide whatever experience people might want, including really dinky and low-effort heists. Very few of the PD2 heists match the hype, tensions and style of the majority of PD:TH heists. In addition to the design of the game itself, the design of the graphics and lighting also changed. In PD2 it's much brighter and almost festive, whereas PD:TH had a hot, washed-out graphical design that sold me the heist atmosphere much more effectively. It felt like I was playing a hardcore heist film back then.

This "shotgun blast" design is pretty indicative of basically everything they want PD2 to be. They've added in extra characters, way too many weapons and weapon mods (a lot of which make ugly-as-hell combinations), a rummage bin of heists and a couple hundred too many masks. They have been pushing to make this game as varied and attractive as possible to new players while selling the established atmosphere down the river.

That attitude relates very specifically to the most disappointing element of the game, the recently added microtransactions. The developers had specifically promised the players that microtransactions would never be in the game and that we should be ashamed to even ask the question. Unfortunately, Overkill stopped being the cool guys that the players were willing to believe they were and added paid weapon skins on the first day of Crimefest 2015, which is supposed to be a series of free rewards for the players being seriously dedicated. Instead of giving everyone skins or something like that, they just gave us the option to pay ridiculous amounts of money for skins and gave us incentive to do so with stat-boosting skins. This absurdly scummy move has alienated a good portion of the crowd, but Overkill rolled it out during the free-to-play weekend in order to cover the playerbase drop and smother opinions about the MTs under the talk of casuals playing the game for the first time. Overkill basically sold hardcore players down the river in order to replace us with more willing cash cows.

But it's not simply that they gave us poor or actively damaging updates; they also give us these updates in place of what one would assume to be incredibly vital updates that one would release immediately after release, if not on day one. One of the later Crimefest updates finally added a jump animation to this years-old game (not that it makes you want to jump on things more, thanks to the sloppy controls that seem to fight you regularly). Combining lack of incredibly obvious quality-of-life updates with game-breaking bugs that exist late into its' life make this a very unsatisfying game to play.

tl;dr would be a great game if not for terrible design and scummy developers

Assumption of this game is - you and 3 other players are well trained heisters. Your job is to rob banks, steal some valuable stuff and much more.

In game you can customize your mask for heists, your weaponry and skills of your character which has big affect in real game.

At premiere games was very buged, had problems with balance and a lot of server/connections issues . With time Overkill was repairing those problems. Then they started adding new heists - of course for money - as payable DLC. It's nothing wrong with that.
But yet... even with time passing, there was still a lot of bugs which Overkill just ignored. But i was ok with that becouse somehow i still had fun with this game.
And then... at the 2015 "crimefest", Overkill added payable "Drills" which can gave us "skins" for weapons. It would be nothing wrong with it if those "skins" doesn't boost up weapons parametrs. But hey, this isn't a player vs. player game. It's co-op game. So it would be ok but... there always is a "but". Not everyone spotted that with those "skins" Overkill added to the game "weapons balance" which was supposed to fix feeling of some weapons. In my opinion that "feeling" was fine. But that patch "weapons balance" lower guns statistics - dmg, accuracy ect. and payable "skins" was rising stats to those before the patch. AND THAT! THAT IS NOT OK. As a gamer and as a consumer i say "NO" - i payed for this game at launch, i bought all DLCs that comes out and then they break my game and tell me that i have to pay for skins so i can fix my weapons? That's some nonsense.
Later they did another funny thing. They made "Point Break" heist + new playable character. Heist was for cash and character was for free and Overkill announced that "character is for free thanks to the Black Market (those goddamn drills)". Realy? It's from the Black Market Money? Not from "Point Break" movie commercial inside your game? That's how it's done these days. Get paid for commercial "heist" inside your game, and take money for it, then throw some bone (character what was probably included in agreement with guys from "Point Break") and say "it's for free becouse you paid for it earlier".
The list is long, sad and very hurting becouse PayDay 2 was one of my favorite co-op games ever.
All of it, what i wrote above, could be somehow understandable if this game would work properly. But now... with new DLC game crashes all the time for me, my friends and a lot of random people. Of course Overkill is doing nothing with it. They probably are busy with counting money from new DLC.
For that kind of attitude to customer my rating for this game dropped from 8/10 to 4/10. Sorry Overkill but my rate and all similar from another people, YOU brought it on yourself.

At this moment i have over 480+ hours invested in this unique experience and i am max-lvl 2600( infamy XXV 100) and the gameplay experience is one of the most polished out there.

But there is a great down side to this otherwise masterpiece of a game and that is called
micro-transactions and you could even say that there was some kind malicious way they got people to buy all there 40+ DLCS.
It always starts with a DLC being released. And if you didnt own it you only had the option to play with the standard weapons and perks.
And the no DLC weapons and perks are like sticks and rocks in comparison to the ones released in the different DLC packs.
Playing on the hardest difficulty which is "Death Sentence" with the "ONE DOWN" modifier is almost impossible up to straight up impossible with the non pay weapons.
And every new DLC featured guns that where straight up better than there predecessors.
However when a new DLC got released the weapons from the previous ones got nerved so much that they either became mediocre, gimmicky or straight up usless and the new weapons became mandatory for the different end game builds.
So it was like a vicious never ending cycle of buying the new DLC, DLC getting nerved, buying the next new DLC and so on..

I hate that an awesome soundtrack was ruined by being associated with this train wreck of a game.

This game could've been something fantastic. It's truly an interesting concept in cooperative shooters. But everywhere you look in this game, it just reeks of lazy design, lazy programmers, and not nearly enough time spent on QA.

I give it points for being a poorly executed great idea. And I also give it points for having a soundtrack that deserved to be in a better game than this.

Payday 2 is profoundly frustrating. There are some cool ideas in there, sure. But most of the game is poorly thought out. A lot of time is wasted sitting around if you "go quiet" (as the game often encourages), because the developer has locked a bunch of essential gear away until you meet an arbitrary amount of time played. Going "loud" is also awful due to the aforementioned gunplay and the bullet sponge enemies. Couple this with ammo limitations, weak guns and poor gun handling, and you have one of the worst games on Steam. Expand

I really loved 1st game. Cool, refreshing and FUN!!! 2nd part is too complicated. You cannot occasionally play few rounds. You need hours and hours just to learn what to do on each mission. Until then you must survive all hates from other players with more play hours. Even when you learn it's not even close fun as 1st part. Most of the features are totally silly. You must search randomly until you learn after few rounds. Who would go to bank robbery without knowing where escape car would be?? Had big expectations, but deleted game. If I want heist, would play 1st part rather! Expand

Even though the Beta had very few Missions and was capped at Level 25/30, the Game was fun and hopes were very high, but man.. if i had known that the difference between the Beta and the final Game would only be 4 Missions... i would have never bought this game!
I was so hyped at the beginning of the game and couldnt really believe that Overkill did such a scam on their fans...

The Game is really nice but the missing variety and behavior of their Devs is just sad

They improved on everything the original did, but there was some issues such as having the SECOND WORSE COMMUNITY, if you just bought the game the chances of finding a match are incredibly low. I got this on launch of steam and got to level 58 quite easily but whenever i joined a game there was always a new player trying to join and he kept getting kicked because he was too low a level. They improved on everything the original did, but there was some issues such as having the SECOND WORSE COMMUNITY, if you just bought the game the chances of finding a match are incredibly low. After this i hosted a new game just for new players. Not all people are dicks but a massive percentage of players are. There is also a massive amount of grinding required. I haven't played this game in a month and i still know the entire layout and tactics. Its not good level design its receptivity. Expand

The game was actually good, before Overkill added a ton of DLC and micro transactions to an already full price game. I wouldn't recommend it to any one now, as long as Overkill tries to milk more money from it. There are good co-op games out there, that doesn't have micro transactions and not add every little piece of content as paid DLC every 1-2 months.

If you are looking for a game to play with friends without sinking over 150$ in it, better look for another game and stay away from Pay2WinDay.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.

A unique and captivating multiplayer experience that rewards team work over personal glory. But make sure you bring friends for the true experience. [Nov 2013, p.62]
