    Terrible UI and matchmaking.
    Extremely repetetive gameplay.
    Bad gunplay.
    Strangely slow weapon progression.
    DLCs with weapons
    Lag problems
The only plus: you feel like a fuking bank robber
If you are on your payday better buy another game, this is a crappy one.

Your teammates take no objectives whatsoever, instead just lingering around, shooting infinite ammunition. To your utmost frustration, they don't even bother to pick up a bag or flip a switch directly next to them.
    - Stealthiness is limited in unreasonable ways. You have to put dead bodies you want to move into one of your limited body bags, and answering pagers randomly fails.
    - Missions are made challenging in frustratingly dumb ways. Trying to hack a computer? The cops will switch one of three circuit breakers. Of course it's entirely unreasonable to have all three covered, and the cops only need to brush past them to force you to go through the hoops of flipping them and starting the hacking again, all of which takes so much time that doing an entire 3-day job will literally take up to 5 hours.
    - Unlocks. The objective is of course to level up to get unlocks. By limiting the number of body bags you have, or allowing you to reduce the amount of drilling time from ridiculously insanely long, to only insanely long does not a funner game make.
    - Cards. Randomly flipping cards so I can unlock a new mask? Give me a break.

I'm so frustrated by what this game could have been, that I've only begun to hate it for all it's annoyances. These guys simply don't know what makes a game fun.

The constant disconnects and the game constantly pausing while peers (re)connect only adds to the general malaise that is PAYDAY 2.

Things that really need to change:
    - Connectivity errors or random connection dropouts
    - There is no way to see if the games that are hosted are stealth or rambo. This sucks very hard because if you are looking for a stealth game you have to join 7-8 games before you find one.
    - There are too much random bugs (like not being able to drop a bag, i.e. bagbug).
    - Single player (bots) isn't playable. The bots can't do anything but being immortal, revive and shoot.
    - Annoying cardsystem with mask-upgrades all the time. Or pesky XP or money boosts. I want weapon mods, I don't care about masks...
    - Offshore cash isn't useful at all. It became sort-off usefull while the birthday of Pay Day was being celebrated, but even then it was pointless: 30 million dollars for one low grade weaponmod? Great... There should be more uses for offshore account.

    - These are no must for the game to be great, only better: Ways to upgrade and customize your own secret hideout. More weapons would be very handy also. I would like a way of customizing armor as well, it's very ugly right now.

The idea behind the game is brilliant. The execution very, very, VERY bad. Despite all the flaws, bad programming and bugs I rate it a 6 out of 10 because of all the fun I have with it when it works. When the game finally becomes more mature I would rate it higher with no doubt.

Payday 2 is anything but a good Coop shooter. For starters, the voice acting is terrible, so is the mission design. It's an overpriced half finished shooter that does nothing new to re-invent the genre. You might aswell just save your 30€ and pre order GTA V instead.

Some would say Payday 2 feels like a massive improvement to its predecessor Payday: The Heist.

    I, however, disagree.

The game graphically is horrifyingly plain; environments lack detail and often have awful textures which for whatever reason were not present in the beta. This makes no sense whatsoever. As if to add insult to injury: the game runs on an ageing engine which pales in comparison to other games released this year.

Secondly, the AI is abysmal: in the single player you start with two teammates (not three, strangely) with their only real purpose is to shoot the never ending onslaught on Washington's police force. These AI teammates cannot help you with objectives; can't pick up bags and can't even smash store windows to help you so be prepared to do EVERYTHING yourself. The police AI also pales as well, their basic tactics consist of charging your position all the time tossing smoke bombs and occasionally tear gas as they run into you not being conscientious of their surrounding cover.

Thirdly; Crime.net is an absolute p***take. In both the online mode and offline mode you have to sit looking at a Google Earth-esqe map of Washington for the minimum of two minutes waiting for the mission that you want to pop up. The most annoying part of this is each mission that pops up has its own set difficulty: so you have to wait for both the mission you want to pop up AND the difficulty you want to pop up. This infuriates me so much. On the side you can select your mission directly, skipping the waiting time for it to pop up; but you have to spend your goddamn in-game money to buy a contract to go stealing money to make a profit again? WHAT.

Fourth is the overall state of the game itself; the game itself shipped with about FIVE missions originally. The same amount as in the beta I might add. This is a serious lack of content and Overkill have already planned DLC? Fix the bugs first! The levels themselves are not as dynamic as Overkill makes them sound either; there are subtle differences between each time you play the mission but nothing you'll really appreciate as you constantly blast away the police force and constantly repair the goddamn drills that the so-called 'master criminals' have. This seriously makes me question why you can't upgrade your drill unless you do the Technician skill tree? Sigh.

If you can manage to get into a game with your friends however (there's quite a few connection issues going around; then the game can provide a minor modicum on amusement as your team can actually help you grind through the ranks. The music is pretty good when the assaults start and gets you ready for the next wave of enemies; shame there's barely enough time to do anything productive in between these waves.

Also, they took out the Cloaker from the original; which is a shame as I enjoyed the mild thrill of trying to shoot the Sam-Fisher like ninja policeman.

Nothing, though, can keep me recommending it now.

They're trying to actually introduce skins. Yes, P2W skins that completely unbalance the already crippled checks and balances of the weapons in this game. Do NOT buy this game, nor any game from this disgusting developer. The people who made Overkill good are gone, all that's left are disgusting frauds who are simply in this to steal your cash.

Now lets go to the Multiplayer side of the game, I don't deny the game is fun and fast paced, however the community is extremely toxic, the community makes even the worst Call of Duty griefer clans and trolls look good by comparison. The other major problem is DLC DLC DLC-

Payday 2 is best purchased these days when its heavily on-sale, and you've got alot of friends who are willing to run you through the game as such. Do not play with randoms...ever. - Paid Game ($25.00 at full price)

    - More than 20 paid DLCs to date ($5.00-$8.00 each). The most powerful weapons are locked behind DLCs. They've recently rebalanced the weapons to ensure this is the case.

    - Recently introduced micro-transactions involving RNG, so you're never certain you'll get the skin you want ($2.95 for each random drill drop). Also, 80% of the skins look trash.

Had a lot of fun with this game for a long time. This is the only reason I can give as high a rating as a 4 based on what Overkill has recently done. Adding microtransactions to your game is one of the very best ways to say piss on your veteran players, and to give the impression you only care about making money and new players. Overkill you are terrible and should feel terrible.

This is a very disappointing game. Throughout the entire game, I can see flashes of what would be amazing design and amazing gameplay, but it is almost always tarnished or completely broken by poor implementation.

The multiplayer in this game (the only part worth playing, as the game is designed to be social) is based on a peer-to-peer system instead of a client-server system. While this has the benefits of not requiring a server to be set up to play on, it also has huge drawbacks. The netcode only vaguely shows the position of other players, often having them twenty feet behind their actual positions and making things like passing bags a strange and contentious affair. In addition, the enemy AI is based on the lobby leader, so if they have poor upload speed you will see the AI completely stop randomly. Which you may think is beneficial, but I often miss dead-on shots on still targets due to broken and/or nonexistent hitboxes (if you want to clip someone's arm or leg, you have to install a user mod because there are no arm/leg hitboxes).

The large variety of weapons are nice, but functionally it boils down to a couple of simple choices due to extremely poor balancing. Want to do stealth? Use a CAR-4 and Gruber Kurz, because you're not going to need anything else. Want to go in loud? Use an M308 and a Deagle. Due to a recent "rebalancing" of the weapons, there are some ridiculous issues. Shotguns are basically bottom-tier weapons, whereas you can basically one-shot elites with a Deagle. There are other very questionable issues as well. For instance, the Fire Axe and the Great Sword do exactly the same thing, whereas a decorative flagpole does the same thing but faster. Another example is the Empty Palm Kata, which has exactly the same stats as the basic Fist. Why? The EPK is a paid melee and is supposed to be a super-deadly martial art. Why does it do the exact same thing as the basic punch?

The style is all over the place as well. This game can become ridiculous and break its' own tension and theme very easily, whereas the first game maintained a consistent and strong atmosphere. In PD:TH, every heist felt huge and important, like the climax of a heist film - the roots of Payday. In PD2, there is a shotgun blast of heists trying to provide whatever experience people might want, including really dinky and low-effort heists. Very few of the PD2 heists match the hype, tensions and style of the majority of PD:TH heists. In addition to the design of the game itself, the design of the graphics and lighting also changed. In PD2 it's much brighter and almost festive, whereas PD:TH had a hot, washed-out graphical design that sold me the heist atmosphere much more effectively. It felt like I was playing a hardcore heist film back then.

This "shotgun blast" design is pretty indicative of basically everything they want PD2 to be. They've added in extra characters, way too many weapons and weapon mods (a lot of which make ugly-as-hell combinations), a rummage bin of heists and a couple hundred too many masks. They have been pushing to make this game as varied and attractive as possible to new players while selling the established atmosphere down the river.

That attitude relates very specifically to the most disappointing element of the game, the recently added microtransactions. The developers had specifically promised the players that microtransactions would never be in the game and that we should be ashamed to even ask the question. Unfortunately, Overkill stopped being the cool guys that the players were willing to believe they were and added paid weapon skins on the first day of Crimefest 2015, which is supposed to be a series of free rewards for the players being seriously dedicated. Instead of giving everyone skins or something like that, they just gave us the option to pay ridiculous amounts of money for skins and gave us incentive to do so with stat-boosting skins. This absurdly scummy move has alienated a good portion of the crowd, but Overkill rolled it out during the free-to-play weekend in order to cover the playerbase drop and smother opinions about the MTs under the talk of casuals playing the game for the first time. Overkill basically sold hardcore players down the river in order to replace us with more willing cash cows.

But it's not simply that they gave us poor or actively damaging updates; they also give us these updates in place of what one would assume to be incredibly vital updates that one would release immediately after release, if not on day one. One of the later Crimefest updates finally added a jump animation to this years-old game (not that it makes you want to jump on things more, thanks to the sloppy controls that seem to fight you regularly). Combining lack of incredibly obvious quality-of-life updates with game-breaking bugs that exist late into its' life make this a very unsatisfying game to play.

tl;dr would be a great game if not for terrible design and scummy developers

Assumption of this game is - you and 3 other players are well trained heisters. Your job is to rob banks, steal some valuable stuff and much more.

In game you can customize your mask for heists, your weaponry and skills of your character which has big affect in real game.

At premiere games was very buged, had problems with balance and a lot of server/connections issues . With time Overkill was repairing those problems. Then they started adding new heists - of course for money - as payable DLC. It's nothing wrong with that.
But yet... even with time passing, there was still a lot of bugs which Overkill just ignored. But i was ok with that becouse somehow i still had fun with this game.
And then... at the 2015 "crimefest", Overkill added payable "Drills" which can gave us "skins" for weapons. It would be nothing wrong with it if those "skins" doesn't boost up weapons parametrs. But hey, this isn't a player vs. player game. It's co-op game. So it would be ok but... there always is a "but". Not everyone spotted that with those "skins" Overkill added to the game "weapons balance" which was supposed to fix feeling of some weapons. In my opinion that "feeling" was fine. But that patch "weapons balance" lower guns statistics - dmg, accuracy ect. and payable "skins" was rising stats to those before the patch. AND THAT! THAT IS NOT OK. As a gamer and as a consumer i say "NO" - i payed for this game at launch, i bought all DLCs that comes out and then they break my game and tell me that i have to pay for skins so i can fix my weapons? That's some nonsense.
Later they did another funny thing. They made "Point Break" heist + new playable character. Heist was for cash and character was for free and Overkill announced that "character is for free thanks to the Black Market (those goddamn drills)". Realy? It's from the Black Market Money? Not from "Point Break" movie commercial inside your game? That's how it's done these days. Get paid for commercial "heist" inside your game, and take money for it, then throw some bone (character what was probably included in agreement with guys from "Point Break") and say "it's for free becouse you paid for it earlier".
The list is long, sad and very hurting becouse PayDay 2 was one of my favorite co-op games ever.
All of it, what i wrote above, could be somehow understandable if this game would work properly. But now... with new DLC game crashes all the time for me, my friends and a lot of random people. Of course Overkill is doing nothing with it. They probably are busy with counting money from new DLC.
For that kind of attitude to customer my rating for this game dropped from 8/10 to 4/10. Sorry Overkill but my rate and all similar from another people, YOU brought it on yourself.

At this moment i have over 480+ hours invested in this unique experience and i am max-lvl 2600( infamy XXV 100) and the gameplay experience is one of the most polished out there.

But there is a great down side to this otherwise masterpiece of a game and that is called
micro-transactions and you could even say that there was some kind malicious way they got people to buy all there 40+ DLCS.
It always starts with a DLC being released. And if you didnt own it you only had the option to play with the standard weapons and perks.
And the no DLC weapons and perks are like sticks and rocks in comparison to the ones released in the different DLC packs.
Playing on the hardest difficulty which is "Death Sentence" with the "ONE DOWN" modifier is almost impossible up to straight up impossible with the non pay weapons.
And every new DLC featured guns that where straight up better than there predecessors.
However when a new DLC got released the weapons from the previous ones got nerved so much that they either became mediocre, gimmicky or straight up usless and the new weapons became mandatory for the different end game builds.
So it was like a vicious never ending cycle of buying the new DLC, DLC getting nerved, buying the next new DLC and so on..

I hate that an awesome soundtrack was ruined by being associated with this train wreck of a game.

This game could've been something fantastic. It's truly an interesting concept in cooperative shooters. But everywhere you look in this game, it just reeks of lazy design, lazy programmers, and not nearly enough time spent on QA.

I give it points for being a poorly executed great idea. And I also give it points for having a soundtrack that deserved to be in a better game than this.

A lot of time is wasted sitting around if you "go quiet" (as the game often encourages), because the developer has locked a bunch of essential gear away until you meet an arbitrary amount of time played. Going "loud" is also awful due to the aforementioned gunplay and the bullet sponge enemies. Couple this with ammo limitations, weak guns and poor gun handling, and you have one of the worst games on Steam. Expand

Then they created new bad guys that anyone without DLC items struggled to kill without a large group and using nearly all there ammo on this one bad guy. Anyone with DLC could kill him easily.

Then they provided group activities with offer of rewards. However you had to spend real money called micro transactions to use them. That is not a reward but a bill or invoice.

They also nerfed my guns practically forcing people to give them money.

I appreciate the need to make money but don't lie and don't milk the fans for everything you can.

I now feel like I would be a traitor to all the decent people of the community if I played Payday 2 and that would be the end of the friends I gained if I don't.

Drops are completely random and you can get the same item you already have, and never unlock what you want for a certain gun. A couple parts of heists are just other maps re-skinned or re-purposed. Classes are also poorly balanced with some talents being useless.

The gameplay is okay, but the AI is horrendous. Cops will position hostages between themselves and you. Hostages will get up and run during firefights if not cable tied. If you play with allied bots they won't do anything but shoot cops and revive you. The enemy cops are also omniscient. You can't sneak up on them during a fire fight. This doesn't make the game hard, however as they're still fairly easy to dispatch. However, the lines the cops have are pretty hilarious. The only way to make Payday 2 difficult is to stealth missions instead of going guns blazing.

A lot of features were left out that were promised, like Safehouse customization. The characters also do not talk to each other like in Left 4 Dead (except when you ask for ammo, someone to follow you, etc), something that's a bit off because you're working together on a heist. There's no banter.

The game is also plagued with a myriad of bugs.

I'm only giving it a 2 10 instead of a 0 10 because it is still enjoyable with friends. However, after about 20 hours each we're all rater burnt out and bored of farming the same 10 heists over and over. Without friends I do not think this game is worth $5.

I recommend waiting for a deal, because the game is $30 and DLC is likely to be paid. I think it is very crummy to only include bad heists and then gate the good, epic ones behind DLC (if the DLC is even epic heists).

More heists, guns and everything. Of course, i preordered it. And, unlike what Eric Cartman said, i didn't get a huge ♥♥♥♥ in my mouth. I got a game that still needed working on. Fix this, add that and it'd be even greater than the first part. But instad we, the players were like a Pavlov's dog or a maid in a hotel. The bell rang and she came. The dlc comes out and we buy it. At first we calmed ourselves:"Just a little dlc. Rather cheap. Devs have to eat too." But then the bell rang more and more, slowly succumbing to buying more ♥♥♥♥. And the ♥♥♥♥ it was. "New guns, melee, masks" were, in fact, just another piece of either useless (because of OP guns) or owerpowered guns that made no sense in using others. Anyway, the guns were a lot, the heisters were a lot, the melee was a lot and the heists not a lot. But, more importantly, despite all dlcs nothing changed ingame. We could count on one hand's fingers the times we had to do something that didn't include tossing bags all over tha map. But as of recent times, dlcs began to be even ♥♥♥♥♥ier, meaningless than you'd imagine. And then the striking blow we got. Brutus finally stroke us in the back with the blade of microtransactions (which are not totally them, but still it's ♥♥♥♥ed up mechanic). Buying useless skins for a cost of few dlc's. And that's while there are entire mod communities that made skins, weapons and suits for the characters for free. But nooooo. Now you have to buy the game itself, dlcs, weapons skins and all that nonsense. I think developers should be remembered that this is a game of ROBBERY, HEISTS and not golden guns, pink masks and greeny-blacky-redy-blue **** as melee. And your common "DON'T BUY IF U DON'T WANT IT, MOIT" does not work here. Because would you like to eat an entire cake? Or only oranges that cake includes, apart from other ingridients (which are quite a lot).

To be short: game was good, then became worse, and now it's like a money-eating vacuum cleaner.

Unfortunately with the numbers came the arbitrary artificial difficulty spike in the game. Suddenly armor didn't seem to matter and even the best armor in the game would get 2 shot within a second, and there are places that you CANNOT stealth with this mechanic implemented. The stealth is par at best with certain aspects being incredibly aggravating like sound being heard from suppressed weapons across rooms and through a few walls. But all this could be made up for since it's a co-op game and could have a good community...riiiggghhhttt?

This game has a terrible community and overkill poorly supports it. It is hard to find good connections to games and when you do if you're low level don't expect to stay. Overkill tries to "help" the community by censoring it. As an example just look at their statement on cheating. In a nutshell it states that if you even mention the word cheating anywhere on their forums even if it would be beneficial towards the community to know what to look for expect an immediate ban from their forums and possibly of anything overkill related and them reporting you to valve as if that does anything.

I can't even go to their forums anymore for fear if I say anything negative I won't be able to play anything of their's ever again. Hell, I don't know if I'm safe even here. If they look at this review and find me on steam then they may do the exact same thing.

At first, I felt bad for the backlash their community gave them for some things. Now that they have taken the lower ground I feel no shame in saying that their decisions with the game so far are terrible and I don't see a bright future for it.

Firstly, I'd like to say that I've never been motivated to post a review of a game before. But never before have the discussion threads been so overwhelmingly censored, to the point where the threads are now mostly positive. If you are new to Payday2, please read the reviews but don't trust anything under the control of the developers (such as the main forum boards).

    Now: a review of Payday2.
I was previously tempted to write a review, but there is no "sort of" recommend function in steam, however recent developments have firmly pushed me off the fence regarding this game. I would not recommend that anyone buy this game unless they are young, clueless and with too much pocket money, and only then because it will mean they're less likely to spend it on crack.
The base game comprises of a limited weapon set and a few heists, with very few weapon mods. You'll have to join "the community group" for a few freebies, but even then you will have to do without grenades, machine guns, sniper rifles, RPGs, miniguns, bows, thrown weapons, any sort of incendiary, etc, etc, etc.
Roughly 1/3 of the weapons are available to purchase without DLC.
And this is where the game shows its colours; There are around 30 DLC packs for you to enjoy, assuming that you have the cash, from £1 for a music track to £5 or so for anything with a new weapon or heist. These DLC have been enjoying a "power creep" for the last couple of years, apparently, to a point where a non-dlc player is at a very clear disadvantage.
Combine this with new enemies who are extra-vulnerable to the special DLC weapons and a clear pattern starts to emerge, whereby pay-to-play is becoming pay-more-to-win.
All of which I could ignore simply by avoiding playing with minigun-wielding 10 year olds. But the things I can't ignore are still there regardless of whether I play solo or online, most notably the bugs & poor netcode. There are bugs from the first release of the game which have not been fixed in two years. There are promised features which have not been delivered for two years. And yet the devs still find time to release 1 DLC pack per month.
The most recent development (apart from the aforementioned forum censorship) is the introduction of microtransactions to gain stat boosts for weapons. This in a game that's not free-to-play, and which requires 2 or 3 different DLCs to fully upgrade even the most basic weapon, and which has 30 DLCs. Not acceptable, imho.

The biggest problem here is that once you've bought the game, you'll probably like most of the gameplay. It's far from perfect, but enjoyable. I've had some fun with it. What ruins the experience is the cash-hungry, rip-off way that the devs are "supporting" the game. And if you like the game, you'll be tempted to start spending more cash . . . . . just DON'T. Don't start, 'cos you'll end up disappointed like so many others. if the £100+ price tag for the completed game doesn't put you off, all the extra microtransactions will. Or perhaps the constant power-creep of the DLCs will get to you. Or maybe being lied to by the devs will get to you. Or maybe having your comments censored will get to you. Or maybe being sniped through a floor, or being kicked through a wall will get to you. Or being disconnected from a game on day 3 of a 3-day heist will. Or the incredible lag (even between PCs on a LAN). And you'll be £100 poorer.

With decent bugfixes, and "developer support" that does not make me feel like I'm bending over crying "Take me! Take me!" while I throw cash into an incinerator, I could recommend this game. But not as the game is today.

I'm getting real tired of seeing reviews with people saying "This used to be a great game". Payday 2 was never a great game. It was never even an acceptable game.

From its constant desync, to endlessly recycled maps with minor changes in objectives and slow updates (Both from Overkill and the community modders), to its horrendous playerbase of unreliable, half-blind fools with no reflexes or sense of awareness, to its never-ending flood of overpriced DLC that you MUST buy, unless you want 75% of the games content to be locked out for you. This game was rubbish from day one. It had potential, sure, but it never lived up to it. Overkill showed us what path they were going to take with this game pretty early in its life and they never tried to hide it.

These microtransactions are bad, yes. People are hurt about the broken promises and I completely understand why this is the breaking point for a lot of people. Personally I couldn't care less about those stat bonuses on skins, because you already have to pay more than what the game is worth, in DLC packs, just to keep up with other players anyway. The game always has been "Pay to win". But my father always thought me that you don't break your word to someone. If you make a promise to somebody, you keep it. Overkill are on record as having said at least 3 or 4 times that they would never add microtransactions to PD2, one time even saying "Shame on you if you thought otherwise", but they didn't keep their word. I don't know how things are in Sweden, but I can safely say that in most places on Earth, your word, your promise about something, means a lot, and if you break a promise to somebody they are going to be upset. Now, combine that with how upset the PD2 community already was about the DLC releases. Every time one was released, the PD2 Steam Group would get bogged down with angry comments and spam from people who clearly have been very unhappy with Overkill for a long, long time. Payday 2 has hit rock bottom here, as well as in Steam reviews. This is what happens when you break promises, keep brushing aside community complaints and adding new systems people don't want. I call it “Star Wars Galaxies Syndrome”.

I realize the game was different to other shooters, and it still is somewhat unique, but that doesn't make it a good game. It was built on an unstable base, and it has been falling apart for a long time now. Personally, I gave up on the game back with the Hypetrain event. Do you remember that? When Overkill promised that we'd all get free content if we BOUGHT ENOUGH DLC DURING THE EVENT? Including a $20 DLC pack that was released just for that event! Don't forget all the masks that don't cover your face anymore, the particle effects Ala TF2, the Overkill pack adding a Minigun and an RPG-7, and even a mission to steal nuclear weapons to sell to terrorists. The sense of being a classy bank robber, a James Bond turned evil character, is long dead in favour of the sense of being a low-moral terrorist. That was the moment the game died for me and my only regret is that some people still don't see how bad the game was before these microtransactions were added.

Summary: This game was never great. If I had a drill for every time a cloaker one-shot me through a wall or a floor, or for every time I've been pinned by a tazer when he had no line of sight with me, I'd have enough money to buy Overkill.

I can't say this game is so bad but can't say it's good either. It gives you some fun of playing it with friends but it could be much better in, pretty much, every aspect. Plus for that there is a lot of promises being forgotten. Like 'Payday 2 will never have microtransactions'.

The game has p2p multiplayer (no dedicated servers).

It also has more dlc than you can shake a stick at and with the latest patch they made it pay2win by adding gambling boxes that contain stat boosting weapons. (and to add insult to injury they initially sold the game on the promise that they would never add stat boosting microtransactions or dlc, to gain goodwill from the community)

Even before the patch dlc weapons were already pretty much a requirement to be able to complete the harder missions (good luck without explosive ammo on certain enemies) but now they're simply gone all the way.

My advice is to play literally any other multiplayer game out there, it's going to be hard to do worse than payday 2.

Since then the devs have been making countless terrible DLCs to try and fill it out, demanding too much money for too little. Their answer? To just keep making more and more low quality DLC.

Just when you thought they couldn't do any worse, they announce Microtransactions on top of it all.

They promised "Dark Souls" worthy difficulty, yet instead a 4-man team can idle around a majority of the maps waiting for cops. And the rest of the maps? Expect your team to idle around as your ghost or mastermind players do the map for you.

It's a complete mess compared to payday 1, which had a proper "dark souls" difficulty level, proper teamwork, and large grandiose heists with PROPER escapes.

It was funny for the first 30 hours. Then I realized I wasted $30 usd on an arcade shooter of killing retarded cops for the sake of lvling and getting enough money for doing "Infamy", which is almost the exact thing that "Prestige" from CoD. You loose all your money, your level is reset to 0 and you can start lvling again. All for a mask and a supposed "buff" that gives you nothing.

It's not funny. The whole game is based on hooking you to grinding exp and money. Heists are boring, limited and repetitive, with re-used maps and repetitive objectives. There used to be a simple stealth system that was rather fun and gave actual replay-ability to the game. You could challenge yourself and solo-stealth missions on the highest difficulty just by being level 35 or so and by having the right gear. After Update 24, the "Death Wish update", stealth and low levels got almost completely ruined. You can't solo stealth most missions now (and there aren't many missions), hell, you can't stealth most missions now, period. Low levels got ruined because of the new exp system, which is BS.

Want more BS? There's no anti-cheaters protection. This game is swarmed by hackers. But I personally don't care. They actually enhance the game rather than annoy the community. They give tons of money and can make you lvl up fast if you're good to them, plus they can start custom game modes like pvp or a boss fight with a powerful Bulldozer and his henchmen.

OVERKILL keeps saying they care about their community, but the proof they give is different. They keep releasing weapon pack DLCs with items that should have been included in the game and they barely release new, innovative maps. Grenades, which come in the "Gage weapon pack #1" and are very useful, are worth $5. And you buy that pack only for the grenades, the other content sucks. It makes me wonder sometimes if this is a p2w game and if they ruined stealth in purpose so you would go loud and buy their DLCs.

Overall, this is not the big game of robbing big banks with lots of preparation, planification, etc we were promised. This is the lvling game. You play a lot to level up, or you hack and become bored when you find out there's not much to do on the game when you're level 100.

UPDATE: The game now has pay2win micro transactions. Previous rating was 8, but screw that. The other major annoyance is that half the content is only accessible if you join their stupid Steam community group.

Payday 2 is somewhere between frustrating and great, because there are many things that should be better, but with the right team it's an awesome game and it only gets better the more you play. Good:

    * With the right team and good communication, it's one of the best coop experiences.
    * Many different possibilities to do missions and the game mechanics generally work great. When everything comes together and you pull off the perfect heist, it's very rewarding.
    * Nice customization options (masks and weapons).
    * Great soundtrack.
    * Shooting feels and sounds very good.
    * Cool back story, they even made some movie clips. There's not much of a story in the game itself, but it works.

Most players suck at the game though, because it can be quite difficult and requires more than shooting, and that really drags the whole experience down as you'll find very few enjoyable public games on the higher difficulties. Bad:

    * The loot system is completely randomized and it's retarded. I've played over 30 hours, am level 50+ and only got one of the weapon mods I need.
    * Connection problems when too many players are online.
    * The game browser keeps crashing and you have to restart Steam to fix it.
    * There's an XP penalty for playing the same mission too many times. When some missions are played more than others, it's because of bad mission balance, so they should work on that.
    * Many missions are too difficult for public groups, that's why players only play the easier ones. Sometimes there are way too many enemies and you can't really do anything, more so when you're unlucky with loot drops and have crap equipment. Especially on multi day missions, the last mission is often too difficult and all the time spent on the mission is lost when it fails.
    * Most of the weapon and armor stats are displayed with rounding errors and/or the math behind it is just weird, which makes the game bad for theory crafting.
    * When you get disconnected before a game ends, you get nothing. Which leads directly to the next point: the game doesn't have host migration. If the host disconnects, it's over.
    * Sound gets stuck often when a game ends.
    * There are many "hold down F key" events. These should be triggered by tapping the key once. Pressing it down for several minutes is really lame.

Also, props to the developers for releasing free content. I just wish they would concentrate their efforts on fixing some of these problems.

The ONLY reason it isn't at 0, is because it's fun when it isn't broken. Other than that, the entirety of the game is a flop.
Combat is worse than CoD and WarZ having a baby, with L4D2 staring at them from a chair in the hospital room. You have mobs of cannon fodder enemies who die in 2-3 hits. Then, you have enemies who take 3 entire magazines to kill, and can kill you in UNDER A SECOND.
Here's a list of the special enemies:
Shielder: Annoying enemy with a riot shield. Use teamwork and hope it doesn't aimbot-lock onto you.
Tazer: Stuns you, causes your gun to go off spazmastically, and impairs the ability to look. When you're attacked by 7 at once (which usually happens), you can't do jack ****
Cloakers: They jump in through vents, or exploit the game's pathetic physics and spawn behind you. They have this magically ability to start sprinting at over 40 MPH, and instantly down you. This is like a tazer, but worse, as they spawn more, more health etc.
Bulldozer: Your standard juggernaut. Except that he, statistically, has over 100X more **** health than you. I've checked. He can also kill a fully armored character with max stats and perks in 5 hits, with a fast enough RPM to shoot 3 times per second.
What I am trying to say is that this game is pathetically unfair, the combat is absolute **** the stealth is unrealistic with enemies and cameras that have X-Ray vision (Could be another of the MANY glitches), and no driving factor to keep playing. Most levels are copy-pasted with only a name that is changed. (There are about 5 levels, all with a different title, that are the same down to the VEHICLE PLACEMENT.)
This game is a frustrating borefest not even worth 5 **** dollars. You MIGHT like it if you enjoy horde-type games where every enemy has more health than you, but if not, you're better off buying Ride to Hell.

I bought the game because it contained co-op multiplayer and was looking for a blast. Unfortunately, the game offers very little replay value. The heists are limited in scope and flexibility. Very quickly they become tiring because there is so little to do heist-wise. Take out a camera, pick that lock, drill that safe, collect that jewellery or tie up that hostage. In the end you end up doing the same things over and over. If you screw up the heist you get to shoot your way out, which again becomes boring and repetitive, because you've done it all before. If the devs could have done anything to save the game, it would be the possibility of making the success of heists dependent on greater stealth, the implementation of which was intrinsically linked to the success of a heist. This would have possibly enabled a greater co-operative experience. Unfortunately this is absent in Payday 2, so you get the notion that whether a heist is performed through stealth or brute force, it doesn't really matter. And since most heists online do go wrong pretty quickly, it just becomes a shoot-your-way-out action game, with a few heist related activities available for show. That just makes it repetitive, and it gets old pretty quickly. 1/10 from me. Expand

Just another game that fell into the micro-transactions pit.. It was fun for the time when it was an honest game, but that time is long gone. I suggest trying to get a refund if you currently have it. Steam will willingly refund it, considering the company lied about it's game and the criminal practices it's company is currently taking part in.

I can say what Overkill are doing has undone that, but nor can I say I'd have felt the same way about this game had I picked up now, as I did then.

One of the strongest aspects of Payday 2 is it's community. Coming in, I was told it was hardcore and difficult to drop into at this late stage. I refute everything about that. If you are a level-headed and polite, the community would embrace you, and not let you drown. The game is brilliant because of it's community, secondary to the, then, superb developer's, who responded to community feedback. The latter changed, and as a result, the former is dissolving.

Until Overkill make this community whole by restoring ethics and a "community first" approach to their development of this game, I cannot recommend to get in now. You may well find yourself out of pocket, on a sinking ship. You can't even get yourself a coke, and you're about to drown. That is what Overkill has done. Ensured you drown, thirsty.

So after 500 some odd hours i took a break from the game seeing as i didn't want to pay a monthly fee for games. I decided to take it back up with persuasion from friends, start getting into it again and give in and buy a few of the dlc's, start doing all the goals with the community to unlock more crimefest rewards and come to find out there has been a weapon 'rework'. Seeing the skins with stats on it just to make them viable guns in the game is sad. Payday:The Heist you actually use guns that robbers would use. If they added a different sight for each gun like a red dot then it would be perfect in that category.

    Payday 2 has more customization.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
