    Pathologic is a very interesting game: atmosphere, story, characters and dialogues are amazing. But the gameplay itself is very tedious and frustrating. Still I think Pathologic's merits outvalue its flaws.

    Pathologic is an amazing piece of storytelling wrapped up in a clunky, infuriating package. It inspires both absolute hatred and the insatiable desire to know what will happen next.

    First, it gets a 9/10 for story and atmosphere. The environments are chilling, and it does a lot with a really old game engine. The plagued areas are absolutely chilling, and the atmospere feels ominous and    Pathologic is an amazing piece of storytelling wrapped up in a clunky, infuriating package. It inspires both absolute hatred and the insatiable desire to know what will happen next.

    First, it gets a 9/10 for story and atmosphere. The environments are chilling, and it does a lot with a really old game engine. The plagued areas are absolutely chilling, and the atmospere feels ominous and tense. Plus, some of the stranger areas/fixtures properly invoke wonder and curiosity.

    Gameplay leaves much to be desired. I realize that this is an indie game, and it comes from an era where "scrappy mechanics" were common. However, Pathologic managed to collect ALL of them to make one of the hardest games I've ever played. Let's list some:
    -Fetch quests. It's made of them. They make a nice setting feel tiring over time.
    -Fast, sloppy combat-- and your attack animations are both random and inconsistently-timed. No weapon-switching.
    -Feels like a guide is required, often. The game often leaves you hanging.
    -Remember fetch quests? Have another.
    -The plague strikes randomly and unavoidably, like a plague.
    -There is no sprinting, and you walk super slow.
    -Fetch quests seem repetitive yet? Have another. Also, you have to walk all the way across town. Twice.
    -Do not start as the haruspex if you aren't ready for punishment; it's harder and skips the tutorial. The game doesn't warn you, either.

    These are simply the punishments you will endure if you become enthralled with this game's plot. Is it worth it? I'm not sure; what is certain is that you will need to be really, really patient to through the tasty, tasty story. You may want to look for a Let's Play instead.    … Expand

    I had heard a lot of stellar reviews, so I was surprised when I actually played the game:
    The dialogue is strange and confusing, and feels poorly translated, even despite claims that the english translations are fixed in the classic HD version. A good portion of the english dialogue in the game just doesn't really make sense (and yes, I played the Classic HD version.)
    I agree with the    I had heard a lot of stellar reviews, so I was surprised when I actually played the game:

    I agree with the review that complains about 'fetch quests', good LORD get ready to spend literally 50% of your playtime holding W (not exaggerating).
    The gameplay itself is quite boring. The combat gets stale very quickly and there is little to no character progression, other than obtaining new weapons.
    I also found the story lackluster, (the main disappointment, as the story is what people generally seem to praise about this game) and worsened by the "better than the original" yet still poor dialogue translations.
    I will likely suffer through the Bachelor and Changeling campaigns at some point, and update my review if it changes my mind. But as of now, to sum it up in a word: mehhhhh    … Expand

    Definitely one of the best experiences i've ever had, the game manages to play with you, your expectations and your imagination the way few other games would. It is cruel yet exciting, and now with the translation fixed, it is a halfway-reasonable symbolic acid-trip that its story invokes. Sure, gameplay-wise it has the same limitations as the old version, so if you want something thatDefinitely one of the best experiences i've ever had, the game manages to play with you, your expectations and your imagination the way few other games would. It is cruel yet exciting, and now with the translation fixed, it is a halfway-reasonable symbolic acid-trip that its story invokes. Sure, gameplay-wise it has the same limitations as the old version, so if you want something that works and acts like a 2016 game you might prefer waiting for the remake, which apparently will be on the market sometimes next year.… Expand

    My favourite game of all time. It earns this accolade through it's amazing worldbuilding, excellent art direction, stupendous soundtrack, great storytelling and characters, and highly immersive gameplay and atmosphere. I feel like I've really lived there, having played it for an excess of 100 hours. Just a stupendous artistic achievement, but I recognize it's not for everyone - it'sMy favourite game of all time. It earns this accolade through it's amazing worldbuilding, excellent art direction, stupendous soundtrack, great storytelling and characters, and highly immersive gameplay and atmosphere. I feel like I've really lived there, having played it for an excess of 100 hours. Just a stupendous artistic achievement, but I recognize it's not for everyone - it's difficulty and older mechanics will make it hard to get into for some people. But for me, it's the pinnacle of my gaming and artistic experience. Truly unique, horrible and wonderful.… Expand

    Графика местами очень страшная, но стиль арт-дизайн очень радуют глаз; По большей части игра слишком простая; Геймплей кривоватый и к середине сильно приедается, особенно из-за бесконечной беготни; Игра хоть и пытается создавать иллюзию,    Невероятная атмосфера, мало с какой игрой сравнимая; Интригующий сюжет; Шикарный арт-дизайн; Великолепная музыка; Три разнообразных сюжетных компании.

    Порядок прохождения:
    Бакалавр > Гаруспик > Самозванка

    Рут Бакалавра по большей части состоит только из ходьбы и чтения текста, сражений мало, зато много сюжета и очень крутой атмосферы. Основные и дополнительные задания требуют много времени, поэтому иногда надо будет спешить, чтобы сделать всё. Именно прохождение Бакалавра лучше всего знакомит с игрой и лучше всего показывает сюжет игры.

    Рут Гаруспика немного сложнее, но сами миссии очень короткие и оставляют много времени на сбор трав (эксклюзивная фича этого персонажа) для варки зелий. В миссиях гораздо больше выборов. Сам сюжет за этого персонажа очень скомкан и скучен и, с учётом различий в событиях и характерах персонажей, больше походит на фанафик по оригинальному сюжету за Бакалавра.

    За Самозванку надо играть в последнюю очередь, а после прохождения за двух персонажей я думаю уже каждый сам решит надо им это или нет. Примечательные моменты игры за неё состоят в том, что репутация будет постоянно падать, а большинство оружия будет недоступно.    … Expand

    Great narrative, a game different from all other stories better than the overrated The Witcher 3 and The last of us PLAY PLAY PLAY, game not for idiots for whom the Witcher is the height of the story

    Insanely good, engine and glitches can often hold it back though. Atmosphere, dialogue, story and the general world is amazing. Any resolution above 1080p isnt supported though, so I'd recommend playing in windowed mode if you're on a monitor with anything higher.

    Pathologic Classic HD is an extensive remaster of the original game, featuring updated graphics and effects, while addressing the most prominent critiques of the original with a completely redone English script, brand new re-recorded voice-overs, and reinstated text and dialogue.

    This ain't game, this is art. Now with high quality textures.
    This game may scare away some players with the gameplay straight from 2005, but those who look behind this screen will be satisfied.

    Fans of great and unusual stories (but also games that do not give anything for free) should give Pathologic HD chance - they must just swallow the fact the visuals are obsolete and the gameplay is also quite minimalistic.
