Truthfully, there isn’t anything Paper Perjury does that’s inherently negative. It’s a solid VN experience, albeit with a more straightforward and relaxed gameplay loop than the Ace Attorney games. The script is error-free, and I like how the plot is mainly self-contained but still manages to hint at further stories to tell in Azure City. For those craving another Ace Attorney-like experience, Paper Perjury delivers. Justina’s sleuthing makes for an entertaining adventure in its own right.

Paper Perjury doesn’t fall far from the Phoenix Wright tree, but that’s absolutely part of its appeal. Content to give a familiar formula its own distinctly breezy atmosphere, the game’s occasional nebulous solutions are ultimately made up for by a charming presentation and endearing cast of characters.

Paper Perjury is an enjoyable adventure title and one that should scratch the itch of puzzle solvers and adventure enthusiasts alike—with a great presentation to boot. Despite the issues I took with the game’s narrative and world-building, know that I enjoyed playing Paper Perjury far more than I ever did playing Dual Destinies or The Great Ace Attorney, and I think that’s the best compliment I could ever give.
