I cannot express how much i love this game. It's not something I thought I'd enjoy but here we are 100+ hours later. The character creation is inclusive and it's great to see your characters grow and actually get to show it. I adore all of the characters, each of them are so unique but feel genuine. While the artwork is pretty decent the overall presentation of this game is quite lacking when compared to similar titles. Sound and music are good but nothing to write home about. The characters are very poorly written though which was disappointing. I did enjoy parts of the story but then the social politics aspect hits you and you're taken out of the world. If you're looking for something to entertain you and forget about the real world, this is definitely not that game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not only is Our Life: Beginnings & Always a free to play title (with optional DLC that incredibly enhances the game), it is one that easily redefines the visual novel/dating sim genre. Our Life is filled with customization, directly or through interactions, for aspects of the player's character, Cove, the new boy who moved in across the street, and their families, friends, and casual acquaintances. Whether the player's relationship with Cove over the course of 15 years or so remains more or less casual, develops into an inseparable platonic, yet soulfully deep, friendship, or blossoms into love is entirely within the player's control, and, defying expectations, there is simply no right or wrong here. Choices one makes seemingly without giving them a second thought come back to shape the future in unexpected ways, subtlety, directly, or, again, seemingly without a second thought until you realize what just happened. Inclusivity in every conceivable sense is accepted without question, be it interpersonal relationships or one's relationship to one's own self. The artwork is vibrant, the music is the perfect accompaniment to every scene and emotion, and the writing is always on point and rarely falls below brilliance. So much care was given to detail in every aspect of life, from the mundane to the truly personal, that you can easily forget you're playing a game and clearly imagine yourself in that very moment. More than anything else, this is a feel good game: you will never find yourself without happiness, acceptance, and a sense of wonder for too long, and when the story takes you out of that comfort zone you soon find your way back again; whether you offer or accept a helping hand along the journey, you're assured that you're never alone throughout it all. Expect to laugh, expect to cry (I won't lie: I cried far more than even Cove because I truly found myself wrapped up in the personal aspects of this game as if it was my own life, or one I could only dream of), and by the time you reach the end of the journey that your actions helped create you are going to come away from this game with an intense afterglow of emotions, and you are going to find yourself missing the life in Sunset Bird you just lived through, and, of course, missing the people in that life. There is tremendous replay value, considering the enormous variety of customization options and various paths you can choose to follow while playing the game, and maybe you just want to relive the same feel good vibes you already enjoyed. Coming back to Our Life is like taking an all-encompassing stroll down memory lane, and it's a journey to be grateful for. Expand
