You play a character who has waken up from a coma and offered the chance to take part in an experiment that takes place in a virtual world to help heal your physical body. As the testing continues you start to notice that you may be lied to but the question is by who and who to trust ? There is a great set of characters that are decently fleshed out. You really aren’t given any concrete info on who is the hero, villains etc. It all depends on who you believe and your perspective. I like this as sometimes you have things laid out a little to nicely and neatly. The intro, which is a compilation of news casts over time that show the collapse of the world, was fantastic and a great way to start the game. The soundtrack is also well done. There were a few choices that would end up with your death so they were really fake choices which I dislike. I also find that the ending didn’t really make much sense given what had happened up to that point.
I played OMNIMUS on Linux. It never crashed on me. I didn’t notice any spelling errors. It did open on the wrong monitor and had to be manually moved over to my main. This is a bug with the Ren’Py engine that the game uses. The game allows you to manually save whenever you want and has six save slots. Alt-Tab works just fine. The game used up 374MB of disk space. During gameplay my GPU usage was 2-6%; my VRAM usage was 622-694MB; my CPU usage was 1-3%; and my RAM usage was 2.6-3.1GB.
Overall OMNIMUS is a solid game that has a lot to offer. If you enjoy futuristic sci-fi visual novels it should fill a need for you. I finished the game in 2 hours. I paid $2.29 CAD for the game and feel that is a very fair price. I would have been fine with up to $5 overall.
