Though its puzzles are simplistic, Nine Witches: Family Disruption is both an audio-visual retro treat and an amusing supernatural WWII romp that is bound to be a winner for those who can handle a little combat in their adventures.

Great atmosphere, incredible immersion. it's like playing Indiana Jones 3 or 4 again. Same quality! I think this could be the best adventureGreat atmosphere, incredible immersion. it's like playing Indiana Jones 3 or 4 again. Same quality! I think this could be the best adventure game in 22 years, together with Thimbleweed Park.

The map in particular is something never seen before in an adventure, and greatly contributes to the immersion and the sense of setting. Also, the very well done (and skippable) gunfights increase the immersion a lot. (If you don't like them, you can skip them , asking for the devil's help).

Very good puzzles also. The game is not easy and you will get stuck, but all puzzles are fair. You understand a game is great when it's nice to be stuck and wander about, looking at the locations and racking your brain at the same time. This is one of the few games where this happened to me. At that moment you understand it's a masterpiece.

There are some small flaws: the game doesn't take itself seriously enough, and makes IMHO too many weak jokes. There are many funny jokes, but also too many recurring "HA HA" jokes which weren't funny to me. I didn't mind the toilet humour but there was too much insistence on it. Also, there was way too much fourth wall breaking. Finally, the keyboard controls are not configurable, and walking with the left hand was painful.

But these flaws do not alter the fact that this is possibly the best adventure game since Fate Of Atlantis. Its strengths are just too big.

TLDR: Play this game. You will laugh and enjoy the story.

When it comes to an indie game, the main question I ask myself before rating it is, "How much fun did I have with it overall?"
When it comes to Nine Witches, the answer is "A LOT".
It is one of those games that you need to meet on its own terms. The Steam page promised me a "unique story" and it sure delivered.
I thoroughly enjoyed the dialogue, characters, the 4th-wall breaks, cutesy pixel art, the meticulously designed atmosphere, the appropriate music, and especially the game's base mechanics which elevated it above your usual detective games.
I laughed at jokes and played most of the game walking around my room, wireless controller in hand.
The one tiny thing that I got frustrated with on two occasions was the fact that if you miss an item by not searching thoroughly or if you don't know 'how' to complete your next objective you may find yourself wandering about for a while; but to be fair, you may find that as a strong point of the game and chalk it up to 'not being overly hand-holdy'.

But overall, this game deserves to be talked about more and Blowfish, its developing team, are on my radar from now on.

So yeah, play it and enjoy your time with it. You will not regret it.

Expand

The art style is consistently simplistic, music and SFX are appropriate and unobtrusive, puzzles are very logical and concise – a rarity even amongst high-end specimens of the genre. The jokes are so horrible that they are somehow come around as stylishly funny. The combat may prove a little bit too challenging at some points, but for my taste it offsets an otherwise classic adventure gameplay quite nicely – however, it should be noted that combat is almost unplayable without a controller.

To sum it up, the game is definitely not a masterpies, but, surprisingly, is not an utter disgrace as well, totally worth playing.

Can't change keyboard binds. this is unacceptable in this time and age. There is no excuse for the lack of complete key rebinding otpion.
