Night Trap was, and still is, a bad game. Actually, you can hardly even call it a game. But, in all of it’s cheesiness, playing it today didn’t felt so bad as we thought it would. It is not a game you would recommend to a more traditional player, but for history buffs and B-movie/slasher fans it feels like home. A home full of traps, but still a home though.

A window into the weird era of FMV games, a rich fountain of charming kitsch and a chance to experience the game which inspired the creation of ESRB, therefore changing the landscape of electronic entertainment. [11/2017, p.70]

UPDATE: The patch has come and fixed the error of the game becoming stuck. You can now complete story mode.

    Just the facts:
-14.99 USD for the original game, behind the scenes videos, a new 'endless mode' where you try to last as long as you can and controller support
-game is currently bugged and 'gets stuck' at the 16:00 mark leading to auto game over. Developers are working on a patch as we speak.
-Game doesn't have a normal 'quit' selection. To exit, you either must wait for game over or use alt-f4.

After 25 years, the Sega CD cult classic, Night Trap has rereleased for the Playstation 4 and PC. Now, players old and new can take control of a hacker who has control of traps and is part of an elite security team called SCAT (Special Control Action Team)). Using the mouse and left clicking players can switch through the cameras in select rooms and watch out for Augers, villains with blood sucking machinery who wish to do harm to the children and teenagers inside the home. Players must time their actions wisely and right click to activate the traps hidden throughout.

Pay attention, though. The game can often trick you. Just when you think you're getting the hang of things, the code will change and you'll have to listen to the residents to see which color the code has changed to as it's randomly different all the time.

Night Trap gained controversy and sparked the outrage that it was bad for children because of its horror movie cliches and tropes. By today's standards comparing it to games such as GTA and Dead or Alive, the controversy is laughable. Even if you can take the B-horror shlock on its face the wooden and amateur acting will have you chuckling. The plot itself is contrived but the multiple point of view perspective makes for interesting watch. You just might get caught up in the drama these teenagers have only to find you've missed several Augers slipping in another room.

I enjoyed the game, but be warned that it's currently bugged. The two most prominent concern the screen locking at the 16:00 mark and leading to an automatic game over and the Xbox controllers being non responsive.

As of this writing, the developer, Screaming Villains, has been made aware of this and is currently working on a patch and bug fixes, on which they assure "are quick and easy to implement".

For the nostalgic or the curious, Night Trap is a pleasure to behold. Just wait until the inevitable bug fixes come through before jumping in.

For me it's hard to believe who has the "Brilliant" idea to remaster one of the wort games ever made and though that it could be "cool".
It has the most boring gameplay and mechanics ever put onto a game... just watching tons of terrible live action scenes that had terrible acting and cheesing dialog with the goal of prevent the bad guys to enter the house and harm the teenagers in their party.
And that's the whole game!!!! just that.
It has some minor differences from the original like different interfaces in the control room and that all, wooow what an improvement (that's sarcasm).
Don't waste your money in this game... please. Is by far the worst game of all time and this remaster is terrible as well.
