Eternally autumnal, trapped for better and worse on the edge of a winter that will never come. Here there is also a small yet important shrine for the Angry Earth, guarded by nature itself. Though once a bastion of hope and light for the inhabitants of the island, these forests have turned feral and dim. A horrible legacy is buried underground, still echoing into the present.     Engaging and approachable, New World: Aeternum mostly nails the modern MMORPG experience with its refined and cohesive game world and intuitive combat system. Crafting and gathering remain a highlight here but all types of players will find this game worthy of its upfront price of admission. That said, those looking for a wide range of high-end raiding content will be better served elsewhere and the game also suffers from an unfocused and muddled art style.

    New World Aeternum is a re-imagining of the 2021 game with the goal of releasing it on consoles, having improved story integration with better narrative, controller compatibility, and unique elements like archetypes to make it more accessible. But it remains the expansive MMO with many possibilities to get lost in and invest many hours in its individual, cooperative, and competitive missions

    I enjoyed New World: Aeternum as an action RPG with relaxed character-building and challenging content but was never motivated to stick around and grind out an insane amount of hours. This almost feels intentional, with the quickened road to endgame and retooling of the campaign. The game certainly feels more fleshed out than it did three years ago and has settled into being a perfectly decent online game that I can drop into and enjoy in short bursts when the MMO itch comes around.
