While not an essential addition, this DLC offers extra context that offers a similar emotional tale to that of the base game. Even at only an hour or so, it’s as beautiful as the mainline entry and has a few more challenges and stages that will interest fans.

Neva: Prologue provides an earnest portrayal of the unique bond that can be found between humans and animals.

Neva: Prologue is a short but emotionally resonant addition to Nomada Studio’s atmospheric platformer, offering a glimpse into Alba’s journey before the main game and the touching moment she meets the wolf cub Neva. While the DLC only lasts about an hour, it introduces a few clever puzzle ideas and reinforces the bond that defines the original adventure. Some players may miss the wolf-based abilities from the base game, but the shift toward Alba as a protector adds a meaningful narrative layer that strengthens the story’s emotional core.

Neva: Prologue‘s scale — with creativity and evocativeness on one side and restrictions and murkiness on the other — balances out to a solid experience.

Neva: Prologue is a decent addition to Neva. Decent, in fact: it does its job, it's not at all bad, and it's even cheap, but it doesn't quite live up to the core game's promise, and feels less inspired and compelling compared to it.

If you enjoyed the original game, the content here is good and it makes a nice excuse to return to this world, if only for a little while. The price is right for what’s offered, but this prologue is hardly essential even for fans of the original game. If you missed that original game, this release serves as a reminder that it’s well worth your time.

Neva: Prologue returns to the original universe by portraying the beginning of the bond between Alba and the young wolf, preserving the agile combat, challenging platforming, and striking art direction—now with a darker tone. The new puzzle ideas and enemies add variety and increase the difficulty; however, they are underexplored due to the short length. Although it delivers intense and visually impactful moments, the sense of more of the same and its brevity lessen its overall impact. Even so, it is a recommended expansion for those who wish to revisit this story from a new perspective.
