graphics of this game are beautiful even on bass, but its problems are... racing on long tracks ends up being monotonous, an event where you have to go with a police from A to B in a certain time and If you crash anywhere time increases... (Feeling none) and worst of all... Ridiculous difficulty and you can't change And so hard that it gets ridiculous. the gameplay is also not arcade itgraphics of this game are beautiful even on bass, but its problems are... racing on long tracks ends up being monotonous, an event where you have to go with a police from A to B in a certain time and If you crash anywhere time increases... I didn't like drift at corners gameplay.

You can't customize cars. You can only choose color.

Variety of cars and car sounds are really great. There are many options.

You can play as both cop and racer.

Great locations to explore and race and some races has different weather conditions which adds to the game.

Overall a great game that is ruined by so many cutscenes.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) goes a long way from previous episodes, and by that I mean Undergrounds, Most Wanted, Carbon, or Undercover. Don't look for tuning here. From the very beginning, this was probably the biggest problem of the game, the fact that it is simply not about tuning and it is not here either. What Hot PursuitNeed for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) goes a long way from previous episodes, and by that I mean Undergrounds, Most Wanted, Carbon, or Undercover. Don't look for tuning here. From the very beginning, this was probably the biggest problem of the game, the fact that it is simply not about tuning and it is not here either. You can change the color of the car as much as possible. What Hot Pursuit is about is police chases. Yes, you hear or read correctly. In Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, there are police again, but this time we can massacre the bastards with new toys. You, as a competitor, have the task of reaching the finish line and not getting arrested by the police, and conversely, as a policeman, your task is to arrest the rider. Yes, for the cops. By that I mean that in Hot Pursuit you often get the opportunity to play for the cops and thus try the other side, which is quite interesting. It works best in multiplayer. I remember how I played with a friend in about 2013 and one of us was a racer and the other a cop. I have to say that it was really fun and that it is perhaps the best thing in the whole game. I remember that we only drove in slower cars, because in the faster ones it was already a problem for my laptop at the time. The game has its time and I would say that even today, beautiful graphics. But if you start the game yourself, you will probably be satisfied as well. For a few players, even Hot Pursuit is the best part of the series. So I don't need this part much and I would rather welcome a proper city with the opportunity to tune my vehicle. Underlined, summed up. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is a good game that deviates from the previous parts, but this change can and I believe that it will suit a lot of players. For me, a good game that I can recommend. Game is terribly toxic, people can kick you for no reason and boom you lost everything you've worked for. The pursuit tech is annoying, they should remove that crap. Can BARLEY PLAY THE GAME so many glitches send you flying from absolutely nothing. Stupid game that needed major fixing the first time around but of course EA is in it for a quick buck. The goods in this game are licensed cars, nice graphics and weapons usage, but the bad things is most of the gameplay, which is heavily based on Burnout games (including Crash Cameras).

Growing up, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 was one of my favorite games on the PlayStation 2. Unfortunately I never really liked any of the other NFS games and it was obvious EA favored the other NFS titles more than Hot Pursuit so I stopped paying attention to NFS. Then one day I saw Hot Pursuit on Steam for sale so I bought it for very cheap.

    How did the game age?

This game has aged very well. It looks good for an 8-year-old game and plays well. This may be the best racing game that I have ever played.

What is the genre and subgenre of the game?

    It's an arcade racing game

What did I think of the story?

There are two different campaigns, neither one has any story which is fine. I don't want this game bogged down by a narrative. Just let me race. One of the campaigns is from the street racer side and the other is from the police side. Both you just kind of advance by racing and as you do well you unlock new cars and equipment.

    Favorite Character?

My favorite car in the game was the Koenigsegg CCXR Edition. It was so fast but also controlled well. I could zip around corners almost seamlessly.

Are there puzzles and How are they?

No, no puzzles. Just get from point A to point B as fast as you can.

What is the gameplay like and how does it feel?

The gameplay is what makes this one of the best racing games that I have ever played. For the most part, the cars control so well and the game does an amazing job of making you feel like you're going very fast. When you're playing an arcade racer, that's what you want. You want to feel like you're going 200+ miles an hour.

What is my favorite moment or sequence from the game?

Its nothing major but there are so many cars to unlock in this game and you do it so quickly. The game gives you instant gratification by having you constantly unlocking new cars.

    Was it fun?

Yes, of course, some of the most fun that I have ever had with a racing game.

How is the sound design and music?

The music is weak in this game but luckily that's easy to fix. Go into settings, mute the in-game music and then play your own music while playing the game.

    Recap: The Good

    Controls well and feels good

    Recap: The Bad

The gameplay itself is really good in Hot Pursuit, but gets really boring to play once you step in time trial, preview and regular race modes (actually what the hell are the preview tracks?! My guess: car spam again. It's exactly like a basic timetrial). Bottom line: there's only hot pursuit worth playing, which represents approximately 7 hours, at most, of gameplay, for this mode only.

Overall I'm quite disappointed. After hearing everyone claiming "NFS: Hot Pursuit is the best of the franchise!" and also the fact that it has been developped by Criterion, behind the famous 'Burnout' 's game, to which I consider Burnout Paradise as the best racing arcade game of all time... well one would expect more.

Considering the release date (2011), I'll skip on reviewing the online part since I couldn't find anybody to play with.

    + Hot Pursuit mode
    + Real licensed cars
    + Cars' arsenal is appreciated

    - Neverending spam fest
    - unskippable feature videos
    - Race modes are not that fun

The game has been released 7 years ago. Today, you can find better anywhere else, starting with Forza Horizon, even buying the old Burnout Paradise or get an arcade racing f2p with no spam fest like mentioned above.

For the above reasons, you should not buy Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

    - There are innumerable ways you can crash and many times it is unavoidable. A minor crash and you can go from 1st to 6th in a matter of seconds after driving flawlessly for 95% of the race.
    - No description of finishing time of opponents at the end of race, the cars they were driving or anything else.

Wow EA, they did a perfect job in terms of graphics, handling and gameplay. Sounds are quite good as well. It gets boring quite fast, probably because it's always the same: chase - respond - chase - ..., you get it. I really like the fact that you can be either cop and criminal, that's what makes this game really stand out.

The AI cheats ridiculously. It keeps you at a the center of a pack at all times. When you crash or fall behind, the other cars slow down for you, which is an obnoxious way to handicap the play, but if you're winning, and pass everyone, the game gives every other car a powerboost, regardless of top speed. You can never be far ahead, no matter how many shortcuts you take or how many times the other cars crash or are stopped. EVERY other car is NEVER farther than 1 to 2 seconds behind you, and if they far behind, the AI speeds them or teleports them ahead. Ridiculous.

The cop missions are just as frustrating. The unlocks are meaningless - although you constantly unlock cars, in the vast majority of missions, you get only one, or at most two choices - most of the other cars get locked out of that mission. You always are given a car that's slower than the racers. They drift every corner perfectly and never hit walls and obstacles. And you are given a pursuit helicopter that misses more than half the time, but drops its spike strips right in front of YOUR car every time. To add insult to injury, usually after scraping by in bronze or silver, you're given the equipment you just needed in order to win mission at the end of the mission as a reward: a better EMP after the EMP mission; a car that's actually as fast as everyone else was driving.

This means the missions are designed purposely for you to lose on: you're expected to place 2nd or 3rd because you literally don't have the equipment to win, and then after 10 unlocks later, come back and actually have a chance of winning.

Most frustrating of all is the fact that to win, you need a @#$*-ton of random luck - opponents must hit oncoming traffic, your heli must actually work for once, the AI must not tip you perfectly into the nearest wall for once. So, you play and play until you get that one lucky run, but it's not about skill, it's totally about random chance - just waiting for everything to get lucky. And that makes this a beautiful-looking, but ultimately terrible, game.

Okay first things first. This is an arcade racer (with some spice). This is an arcade racer (with some spice). With that being said if you go into this game thinking your going to be able to modify cars or simulate real driving conditions then you will be left sadly disappointed. So if those functions are absolutely necessary for you to enjoy a racer then do not play this game. With that being said if you are looking for an old school NFS racer with several modern vehicles to choose from in a cop vs racers scenario then you are really really going to like this one. I have to admit I was never a big fan of arcade racers to this point but this version of Hot Pursuit definitely won me over.

The game is split between a cop story and a racer story mode that you can move back and forth from at your own convenience. Both modes share many of the same cars but have a few exclusives as well. Both modes have a version of time trial races where you are just trying to beat the clock (these are by far the hardest races especially in cop mode). Racer mode has a few different variations of races which include straight up races and races with cops chasing you. Cop mode has you taking out racers in several different kinds of race scenarios (my favorite). The racing mechanics are a very unique combination of old school arcade smash em up driving combined with a damage system that slowly deteriorates your vehicles performance with each crash and hard collision. Graphically the scenery looks good but to me is not breathtakingly beautiful. The car models are equally as good looking and detailed. Both Cops and Racers have weapon systems that increase in capabilities as you advance through events. There is an actual class system for the cars themselves, for example a Dodge Charger will not be in the same class Bugatti Veyron. I love the preview mode that describes each cars statistics and background story. There is not really a story in the traditional since but invites you to create your own through each individual event (its definitely an arcade game). Hot Pursuit can be challenging at times towards the end but the beginning could have used a bit more difficulty to prepare you for higher speeds and more advanced weapons.

This installment of Hot Pursuit goes above and beyond what I would expect out of an arcade style racer. Car classes and a damage system are things you would expect in a Sim Racer and are things you would hope to find in a traditional story line racer (but often don't). These innovation in conjunction with traditional Hot Pursuit racing mechanics make for a very fun arcade racers that makes this a must play for anyone who just wants to drive awesome cars and have some mindless fun. 9/10 Amazing

I don't play many pure racing/driving games, but this one is decent. It's unfortunate, because for the longest time I was really hyped for this game for the 6 years it was out. I finally bought it this year and, while I don't regret purchasing it, I don't really feel like I'll devote myself to this game as much as I thought I would. To begin, let's start with what I liked:

I don't play many pure racing/driving games, but this one is decent. It's unfortunate, because for the longest time I was really hyped for this game for the 6 years it was out. I finally bought it this year and, while I don't regret purchasing it, I don't really feel like I'll devote myself to this game as much as I thought I would. To begin, let's start with what I liked:

    - Cars in police livery: I just have a love of police cars and seeing a fairly large assortment of supercars in flashy police livery is just eye candy for me.
    - Police chases: I love playing as the pursuing police (even before I got this game). While sometimes I wish I had back-up, as in other pursuit vehicles alongside me, I thoroughly enjoyed the concept, aspect, and execution.
    - Graphics are terrific: Even by today's standards, I feel the game does very well visually. Not only the cars, but the environment is spectacular. I wish there was an urban setting in this game, but the countryside is beautiful all its own.
    - Cars are very responsive: For the most part (the least part to be discussed later), cars handle very well. Fishtailing happens, but it's an uncommon occurrence. There are hardly any sharp turns, so the truckish turning isn't all that a problem.
    - Power ups: The spike strips, road blocks, signal jams, etc. are a nice touch. They aren't necessary, but they're good alternatives to screwing over racers and cops alike. Still, you can get by just fine with the good old PIT manoeuvre.
    - Very fun at the beginning: This one is good and bad, but I'll just keep it in the "good" section. It's very exciting for the first few hours of the game. Whether you're taking down crazy carjackers or trying to play dirty in an illegal street race, it's initially addicting and extremely entertaining. But then you notice that the missions are just basically the same, but with new tools and new cars. While there is variance between cop and racer missions, both sides are very limited (~3 mission variants each).

    Now the stuff I not-so-liked:
    - Rubber banding AI: No matter what game it is, I will never forgive this design decision. As far as I know, this is a problem that plagues all NFS games. Cars catch up to you or speed away from you at impossible speeds to keep the challenge of the game. The way the rubber band AI works in this game almost makes it feel scripted when I'm allowed to take out racers as the police (for example). Almost like only at/until certain points are you allowed to catch up or take someone out. If anyone has played Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, it's like that garbage "Dogfight mode".
    - Stupid AI: Namely NPC traffic. Why do they not move out of the way? If you saw 7 illegal racers and a police car racing down the highway RIGHT AT YOU at 300 k/h, would you just continue driving at a casual pace? Police sirens mean you get out of the way or pull over. For a game that emphasises police pursuit, Criterion sure forgot to programme decent traffic reaction to it.
    - No cockpit view: This one is very minor, but I prefer my racing games to have a POV camera, complete with steering wheel, dashboard, etc. There is a "first-person" camera, but it's just over the hood.
    - Weird (sometimes nonsensical) physics: This happened twice in one mission, but it still frustrated me. I tilted left on my control stick and my police Corvette veered right in a crummy preview time trial. Sometimes a car is right on my six o'clock and the spike strip misses. Damage seems to be inconsistently applied. If you ram an enemy car from behind, they take damage. If they ram YOU from behind, YOU take damage (even if they're a racer with no bullbar). If you ram an NPC traffic car from behind, you will most likely wreck. If an enemy racer smacks right into oncoming damage, they don't wreck (though still take heavy damage). Newton's third law of motion, please.
    - Not all cars are available for all missions: As you progress and unlock more missions and more powerful cars, you actually lose the ability to use the earlier cars in later missions. While I haven't gotten far in the racer missions, this is at least true for the police missions. Unfortunately for me, this means I can't take my trusty Crown Victoria to try to take down Ford GTs.
    - Time trials: I hate time trials. I hate time trials that penalise you for hitting something even more. When a game only has about 6 modes and 1/3 of them are time trials, I say "no thanks". To my knowledge, you don't need to do them to unlock everything, but as a completionist, I feel sort of obligated to do them.

In conclusion, while quantitatively I listed more dislikes than likes, I still feel this is a solid game. It's just not for me. If they make a direct sequel, I'd probably be interested. But I've played this game for 3 hours, and it won't likely go much more than that any time soon. In short: Good, but not the game I expected.

Unskippable intros, the worst controls ever seen in a driving game (and just as bad with racing wheel and pedals), more cutscenes and menu navigation than actualy racing, ruining up a long event takes a second and is easy with horrible controls but restarting an event takes ages even loaded on an SSD, the cars all have essentially the same handling and are simply different for brand promotion, absolutely farcical AI that slows to a crawl if it gains a solid lead but drives impossibly fast if you get ahead... I could go on for a long time. To hell with this game, **** off Criterion you sellout piece of worthless **** developer. **** off for never bringing Stunt Island and Cops & Robbers to PC. That's what I get for buying every game you've ever made. **** I almost want to throw all my Burnout games in the garbage as a way to cleanse myself of this horrible modern Criterion decline that just keeps going and going. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An excellent alternative to other games that the Need for Speed franchise brought to us in recent years until then. This is, briefly, a hot pursuit (as the title) on a large scale. Driving in extensive roads with the most powerful cars in the world. There is no a storyline behind the career mode, only a scale level to 1 at 20, playing as a cop or as a racer. Another interesting point of the game is the shift change during the races.

The focus is on the online mode, where the new autolog system connects us with friends and we play races and intense pursuits. The game's secret is the high speed (that's why so long roads) and the escape of a heavy pursuit (where we have road blocks, spike strips, PEM, and even helicopters support by the cops). Racers also have similar weapons.

It's not a surprising game, but the gameplay is good and the proposal is well differentiated.

I just can't give it a 10 because of the **** indie soundtrack (I would prefer something more like hard rock or heavy metal -but it is not as bad as the soundtrack in Most Wanted from 2012) and because of some nitpicking... for example, when you crash, the game takes control of your car. Or when a race starts you aren't in control of the car... I can see NFS purists hating the new gameplay mechanics, but Need for Speed needed a change, particularly because of its "mid-life crisis" with the previous titles, like Undercover, Pro Street and Shift. I don't like how police seem to be faster than you always, even if you use turbo. Just a bit annoying. Maybe they just chose a faster model, who knows. I also wish you could break through the rails and drive around in the dirt and city areas, though those areas may not be rendered so that might be why the game is less stressful on your machine. No need to make the game like Just Cause 2 after all. xP

Was expecting something like the old NFS. But this has no story, no plot, you get a car after every race or so - there is no feeling of being rewarded. The game play is ok, but there is a very annoying 'feature' that will switch the camera to the cop car waiting for you, while you're busy taking a corner, and when it switches back, well you end up pretty much in the sticks.

So they pretty much took your regular highway cars and put them in a race where half of it is done on gravel but you aren't able to upgrade your car to make it so either. The cars handling is so unrealistic and awful that my 10 year old car would put to shame a freaking brand Porsche at 130 MPH according to this game. Not good commercial for those manufacturers. I will play NFS: HP on PS2 long before I play that stupid game again.

I gave it one and could have given it less. Avoid at all costs if you are older than 25 years old and have a keen understanding of handling vehicles at high speeds.

Good game for kids and beginners to racing games as it can be quite challenging but not fun for those who like to race other cars. Honestly, I have nothing nice to say about it. You get what you pay for and even at $10, unless you're a collector and want bragging rights then there is no reason to get this game.

Anything made by EA after 2008 is total garbage and this game is falling victim too.

I don't play that many driving games and only picked this one up on Steam because it was cheap. I'm not sorry I bought the game, but it is very frustrating at times. This frustration comes from a few things. First and foremost, I know a game is supposed to increase in difficulty as the game progresses, but the computer drivers are simply better than they should be at the later levels. They go faster than their actual top speed when you get very far ahead. Also, they "know" where the traffic is before they "see" it, so they can avoid it about 9 times out of ten while you are left crashing right into them about twice as often. This is especially true when you use turbo, which is basically complete luck that you don't crash into anything because the difficulty of turbo is that the gameplay speeds up about 150% so your handling is completely off & you are forced to react 50% faster (which is a little difficult to do when you are travelling at 240 mph on a crowded highway.) Cops in pursuit of the car in first place accelerate 160-500 mph in one second, very realistic there. With all this, it's pure, blind luck in winning some of the levels. Overall, not a great experience, but fun at times. Expand

This is a guideline for how to properly review games. Many reviewers like to get a “feel” for a game, and arbitrarily give a game a score that they believe it deserves. This results in wildly different scores between different reviewers, and vastly different scores between similar games. This guideline addresses these problems and scores games fairly and consistently. This guideline also gives scores that are usually similar to the metacritic score.

The review score is based out of 10 points. There are no “half” or 0.5 increments. It is impossible to have a score above 10 or below 0. The review score will change as the game gets new dlc, drops in price, or if more secrets are found through the game increasing its appeal.

The scoring is split into 6 sections. The first five sections can add a possible 2 points to the final score. The first 5 sections are Single Player/Multi Player, Gameplay, Visuals/Story, Accessibility/Longevity, and Pricing.

Notice that 3 of these sections have two parts. These particular sections will be scored based on the stronger part of the game of the two. For example, if a game has a lousy single player campaign, but an excellent multiplayer component, that section will be based solely on the multiplayer as if the single player did not exist. This allows games to be based on their own merits, as many unnecessary features are shoehorned into video games by publishers to reach a “feature quota”. Games that excel in both areas of a section don’t receive should be noted in the written review, but cannot increase the score past 2 in that section. However, it can be taken into account in the final section

The final section can add 1, add 0, or subtract 1 to the final score. This final section is the “wildcard” section. This section is for how the reviewer “feels” about the game, but limits this only to this section, rather than the entire 10 point review. This section can include any positive or negative point that was not covered in the previous 5 sections.

Best NFS for the PC. They have improved the graphics, car mechanics, crashes. The game also ran smoothly. I loved this game more than any other NFS game. Its the best. It clearly beats out its previous sequels and will be one to remember in the future.

Im all for arcade style racers but the direction controls are there to direct how much drift you get rather than actually turning corners. 3.

    3. Loads of little annoyances such as 14 seconds into a game, i've just reached 100mph in my BMW M3. I swear it said it did 0-60 in 4.2. you can never get ahead of the competition. they ALWAYS catch up! doesnt matter what car you have, its the looks and sounds that differ, handling, speed and acceleration are the same.

The old NFS's were great as arcade racers so buy them instead.

Not the cutscene with publisher/studio/etc, the cutscene *explaining the main menu*. And then it takes forever narrating whatever kind of car you first get, the fictional location of the game, what it means to be a police officer. And then it throws you into a race, without ever bothering to tell you that the four directions are not mapped to either the standard WASD or up/down/left right. This it continues to do: the spike strip is state of the art blah blah can do x y z regenerates (what? regenerates?) and then don't bother to tell you what even the default key for it is. Then every time you get a new car, it shows several lines of "NEW CAR NEW CAR" diagonally for maybe three seconds, then moves aside for another three seconds, then waits another three seconds until it ~grandly reveals~ what kind of car you got first the brand, then the model, and then after more waiting it shows you the car. Clearly there is no need for speed anywhere but when you're in the car.

Then the cars itself are boring. Your customization is the color of the car and that's it. You can't do anything in any car without drifting, and of course it doesn't teach you the optimal way to do that either. There are no amazing things you can pull off, it's a linear course each time and the top speed actually is the only relevant stat because there is no such thing as building advantages. Some older NFS games it was possible to get half a minute or greater lead on multilaps because you continually do things right; here we have a nitrous system and a slipstream. With random cars that get in the way and think it's a good idea to simply come to a halt whenever you get vaguely near them.

If you crash, you get tons of shiny particles. There's a lot of shiny things in this game. The cutscenes are shiny, the cars are shiny, the environments are shiny, even the voices are shiny. But the handling is terrible on everything, and there's no incentive to stick with any car because you can't upgrade.

It isn't fun in the slightest.

It was worth 8 of my dollars, but it wasn't worth two hours of my time.

I have been a huge fan of playing as a police officer in the previous games however I was disappointed with the campaign for cops this time around. The racer campaign was good, however it was filled with an annoying amount of drifts, way too much traffic, and at times outrageously lengthy races. The cop campaign was filled with bugs, and civilians who shouldn't have their licences (will explain).

When I started the game I was expecting the cop campaign to be interceptor, and hot pursuit missions however I was surprised by the preview and rapid response missions. Rapid response requires you to be almost perfect giving you a 2 second penalty for touching a wall and a 3 second for a civilian, not only is this difficult but it doesn't make sense. Everyone and their mom knows to pull over when they hear a siren or see the flashing lights however the civilians in rapid response choose to ignore it and continue driving. This makes rapid response missions almost impossible to play on highways due to the three lane traffic and 90 degree turns, to conclude the rapid response and preview missions were poorly thought out and are almost certain to disappoint (4 rapid response missions are the only gold medals I have left before 100%). The only other complaint I had about the cop campaign was hitting a suspect car head on does cause damage to them (it should cause the most) causing me to lose at least 3 gold medals.

Finally the racer missions. The racer missions were thought out a little more, the only complaint I really have is the poor level design. It seems like I spent the majority of the gaming drifting around sharp bends and dodging traffic. I would like to see some more hot pursuit missions, the best part of the racer campaign were the hot pursuits.

In conclusion I would not suggest buying this game unless it is less than $6 (wait for the steam shop to put it on.) Besides the disappointing times in game play, and the repetitive missions, the visuals live up to EA Dices horrible reputation of adding ridiculous lens flares making the road and traffic hard to see at times. Buy this game if you are desperate or it is on sale.

The first thing that got me was the crappy intro.... I mean come on, every good NFS title had a nice intro which gives you the adrenaline and the feeling of "i need to race right now", but not this one. The graphic options are just resolution, textures, motion blur, and that's it. It has no anti-aliasing, so, that's a 4 for graphics. Sadly, graphics are the less of my concerns.

Every time I try a new game, I check the keybindings. This was no exception, so I got to it, and... honestly, I wasted 5 minutes of my life trying to find the "shift up shift down" keys. There is no manual transmission in this game! Since automatic is for (oh, and many shift points aren't optimal), just for that I should give a 0 for gameplay, but there are other reasons, like the physics, every car handles the same, every car's acceleration feels the same, being exotics, Japanese, american, FR, FF, 4WD, every damn car feels the same! (and have an horrendous understeering too), the only difference is the top speed. The way to start a drift is just wrong, come on, even NFS SE II is better on that.... not to mention that drifting is 'faster' than gripping on about every corner. So, for all those other reasons, on gameplay it still gets a 0.
In race, "teleportation" is just stupid. On other NFS games I just unmap the "reset car" key. On this game, its not only impossible, it just happens automatically, I can't have the choice of pulling myself together, shift to 1st (or reverse) steer hard, open gas and get back on the race on my own. Not to mention the crash cut-scenes... there is nothing more annoying than that.

Another bad thing is requiring an internet connection and logging in to play career mode.... feels like xbox one.

You don't need any skill to play this 'thing'. Just slam the accel and steer, you'll be fine.

NFS HP2 is much, much better than this game. Even NFS SE II is better than this game.
Let EA-Blackbox be in charge of NFS again.... please.

If you choose to be a cop, your objective is to "BUST" (immobilize) all of the racers before they finish the race. However, what I just described is only the game's signature game mode "Hot Pursuit". There are a good few more game modes, but this is the one I find to be the most engaging. The others are things like "Race", just a normal race without any police, "Interceptor" which is one cop against one racer, the racer's objective is to get away from the police whilst the cop's objective is to catch the racer. The game uses real car manufactures, and whilst on the topic, this is a 2010 game. You shouldn't be expecting top-notch graphics, BUT in my personal opinion the graphics are great anyway! Sadly, there is no Anti-Aliasing. The only thing I found partially annoying about this game is in my opinion, the PC controls aren't that great AT FIRST. The keybinds were really awkward, and it was hard to drive. Luckily, the keys are REBIND-ABLE and you can set them to whatever you like. You can play online, you can either play Race, Interceptor, Hot Pursuit, or more with up to 8 PEOPLE! This game, is fantastic. The crashes look awesome, engaging game modes, the only game mode I didn't particularly enjoy was "Preview". Thank you for reading, in conclusion, I gave this game a wonderful 9/10. Expand

I admit it didn't feel fun. Once I used the xbox controller on my pc, the game suddenly became MUCH easier. Drifting felt like paradise. The first cars are terrible at this. Later on you feel like you can drift on a dime with cars like the McLaren F1. The problem with cars that turn well is that they get shredded by cars that don't turn well like Lamborghinis. It's kind of a trade off depending on how you like to play.

Overall, the game is a great follow up to the Hot Pursuit series. It has great graphics and gameplay. Only get this if you like arcade games. I normally only play simulator car games but this one was an exception.

Like mentioned up, the Career is divided in 2 mods, that are separate from each other, with different points, objectives and gameplay style. Racer and Police. Both mods feature lots of cars, many of them present in both mods, but even so, there are some unique cars that aren't available for both mods, for instance the Ford Crown Victoria is available only for police, while for racer isn't.

The cars are divided in several categories, such as Muscle, Exotic, Roadsters, from expensive to relative cheap cars and others.

Both Racers and Cops are having their own arsenal such as the EMP, Spike Trips which makes the gameplay exciting and very competitive.

The action takes place in Seacrest County, a fictional place located along the West Coast of the United States. It has environmental attributes similar to that of Washington, Oregon and California. It is devoid of urban areas although scenic views and wide open roads await those who take their rides for a spin.

The gameplay feels free but in same time linear, and even repetitive at some points, but this isn't a big problem for such a game.

However is a bit disappointing that you can't customize your ride, excluding paint, which takes a bit from the style of the previous Need for Speed games.

The graphics are well made, the cars have a great handling, and the location and environment look and feel like in a real racing game.

So overall, NFS:HP (2010) is a great game that deserves to be played by everyone, and as it has it's own story and location, separate from the previous games, so you don't need to play a previous game to know what's happening in this one.

race design aside, the game was really hindered by the awful (or nonexistent) driving physics. Every car drives the same, and it's not very good. I was a fan of the old skool NFS games, even the more arcade ones, because even though they felt "arcade-y", they still displayed relatively accurate driving physics, giving each car a different personality and driving style. There is not much sense of speed, its too easy to drift, to recover, in most occasions its possible to drive the entire race without using brakes at all, just hand brake at full speed :P
There are no options to raise a bit the difficulty or to make the game a bit more realistic.
Damage system reminds me to OUTRUN the coin op, and also something incredible, there is no way to drive with manual shifting.
Other issues are about the fact there is no logic in what you doing, why you are competing, and even if the idea of the Island and the free roaming is cool, i really miss championships or something to give some more sense then just beat the best track time.

But although all of these features it lacks, the graphics are stunning, the vehicle models are stunning, the physics are too. But I think all Criterion are trying to do is keep that Burnout feeling in their games: The destruction when you take down a vehicle is very much like Burnout. I did enjoy Hot Pursuit, but it does not belong in the NFS genre.

    Thanks Criterion, but no thanks.

Another great game by Criterion Games. The graphics are absolutely impressive even though it is 2012 now! The game isn't terribly long but provides lots of fun in the large world named "Seacrest County." There really isn't any problems with the game besides the fact how all the cars basically handle the same. Thank you critics for once again giving a game a misleading rating. This piece of crap game shouldn't even have the title of "Need for Speed". No customization, no story, free-roam mode is an after-thought. The introduction when you first play the game is more like an introduction to a driving lesson simulator as opposed to an actual NFS game. The introduction when you first play the game is more like an introduction to a driving lesson simulator as opposed to an actual NFS game. Oh, and don't get me started on the selection of songs. I was pleasantly surprised to hear 30 Seconds to Mars' "Edge of the Earth" on the title screen. If they had kept with the hard-rock genre I would've been happy, but sadly I was disappointed to find I was lured in and tricked, as I endured the endless amount of "indie" tracks. I'm not slating the bands or the genre, but who wants to drive to that **** 'Does it offend you yeah', 'MIA', 'Klaxons', etc. Bull****. What happened to Most Wanted's soundtrack? Give me Celldweller anyday. As for the gameplay itself, it's not bad. But then it's not good. Firstly, automatic transmission is mandatory. Yeah. Even the old Outrun game at arcades have manual transmission. Secondly, why can't I turn off the cutscenes every time I crash or take out another race? After the cutscene you're automatically driving again, which has sent me off in the wrong direction in cop mode. Another thing is when NPC cars crash, they do the same. One NPC crashed into one of my roadblocks and then he suddenly disappeared and was placed onto the track a hundred yards ahead at full speed. Was it too hard for the programmers to enable NPCs to back up and turn around? Expand

I have to start by saying this is the worst Need For Speed game I've ever played and I'm a big fan and have played nearly all of them since the first Hot Pursuit coincidentally. The handling is atrocious, no matter what car you choose it's gonna handle like its towing a caravan full of obese hippos. There's a horrible delay whenever you try and turn making avoiding other cars and traffic a nightmare and if you do manage to turn in time your car will wobble all over the place before straightening up again and to get round bends power sliding is a must although, paradoxically, the cars handle best when they're sliding sideways around a bend at 100+ mph. I can't help but feel that the handling could've been fixed somewhat by allowing you to tinker with a few simple settings such as steering sensitivity, ride height/stiffness, aerodynamics etc but there are absolutely no tweakable options whatsoever, you can't even have manual transmission, let alone purchase any upgrades for your car like in nearly every NFS game in the past decade. It really detracts from the sense of achievement and progression as you get handed cars after most races and you know that they're all gonna handle abysmally with no incentive to race them anyway to save up for upgrades. The AI is another serious problem with this game. Extreme case of horrible rubber banding where you can be flying along at top speed after a near perfect run and the AI can still cruise right on past you half a mile from the end, it just makes playing boring and frustrating. The graphics aren't too bad but there's a distinct lack of options for tweaking and no support for AA. Made by Criterion and yet manages to be worse than both NFS and Burnout. Overall extremely disappointing. Expand

Criterion Games hits the old and trusty NfS-Series with a welcome and refreshing blast from the past. It offers fast and furious oldschool-action, plenty of mileage and an overall good ride. A lack of modes, some rather bland racetypes, the always present rubberband-A.I. and a lack of challenge bothered us. But overall we liked what Hot Pursuit had to offer. A lot!

NFS Hot Pursuit will not reinvent the genre but it is great fun and perfect for quick races inbetween. If you aren't the competetive type however the game starts to lack soon.
