    I still play it one of the best games ever. The graphics are remarkable. the career play is very intresting, competing with the computer make it worthwhile. you should try it.

    That nostalgic feeling of old NFS ! Its a amazing game for me. I very like handling of old NFS (its very action paced). Maybe even the High Stakes have best soundtrack in series ?

    Used to play this everyday when I was 16. Very fun and a REAL Need for Speed game. This is what we need a remake of. No NFS:hot pursuit is not there yet.

    I really hated the Hot pursuit series and this NFS game. I still prefer NFS II and NFS Porsche from that period of time. Strangely, I really don't like police hot pursuits, although NFS is much about that. I like racing in the dark against blondes and cruising in peace, with my subwoofer playing some melodic dubstep...

    Spent many hours as an eight year old playing this game. Recently picked up an old copy and played it again, and was impressed by how well it held up. Good car selection, customization, great soundtrack, and solid graphics for then. The best part though? Playing as the cops. Setting spike strips and road blocks is always a blast. Play this game if you like classic Need for Speed. ISpent many hours as an eight year old playing this game. Сначала я не понял меню игры и что от меня хотят? почему я нажимаю один уровень - выдаёт одну карту, нажимаю этот же уровень (хочешь переиграть) - совершенно другая карта?     Es este el mejor NFS de toda la historia? Hmm, eso es debatible, definitivamente es uno de los mejores. Los nuevos añadidos de este juego hacen en cierta medida una mejora considerable a Need For Speed 3 como el modo career (en su mayoría, ya diré porque), mayor personalización en el modo carrera simple, y persecuciones mucho mas intensas, ademas de una mucho mayor cantidad de autos. SinEs este el mejor NFS de toda la historia? Hmm, eso es debatible, definitivamente es uno de los mejores. Los nuevos añadidos de este juego hacen en cierta medida una mejora considerable a Need For Speed 3 como el modo career (en su mayoría, ya diré porque), mayor personalización en el modo carrera simple, y persecuciones mucho mas intensas, ademas de una mucho mayor cantidad de autos. Sin embargo, que lo mas importante en cualquier juego de carreras son sus controles y su diseño de pistas, y como se defiende con esto con respecto a NFS3? Bueno, para empezar, los controles no son tan perfectos como los de NFS3, quitando en cierta medida la libertad de doblar curvas cerradas de forma perfecta al soltar el acelerador en el momento justo si sos habilidoso, pero siguen defendiendose muy bien, al menos al ir en asfalto (ya diré mas adelante porque), y el diseño de pistas, todas fueron buenos añadidos, aunque... algo que en lo personal no me gusto es que sean mucho mas estrechas que en NFS3 y la pista Snowy Ridge (ya dire porque). El juego peca un poco de tener pocas pistas. Que si, que muchos me podrían decir que NFS3 solo tenia 4 pistas que luego se duplicaban, pero estas "copias" se sentían muy distintas mas adelante, tanto en la forma como en el apartado gráfico. A pesar de que todas las pistas de NSF4 sean distintas, me parecieron menos memorables y con peor diseño que las del 3, aunque otras siguen dando la talla, como pueden ser Route Adonf, Landstrasse o Raceway 2. Aunque me parecio un poco "vergonzoso" que incluyeran las pistas de NFS3. De seguro que lo hicieron para rellenar, ya que el juego sin estas pistas se sentiria mucho mas vacio, aun asi yo lo sigo notando. Y hablando de las pistas del NFS3, algunas tienen ligeros cambios en las colisiones para peor, y la IA de los policías es mucho mas tonta.
    Pasemos ahora al modo career, el punto "fuerte" del juego. Básicamente es lo que tomaría forma en futuros juegos de la saga. Elegir un coche, ganar carreras, mejorarlo, comprar nuevos coches, etc. En la base este es un gran añadido, y le da mucha rejugabilidad y personalizacion, sin embargo, a partir de los 2 o 3 ultimos campeonatos este modo empieza a decaer, y no solo porque se aplica el problema de las pocas pistas que ya mencione antes, sino porque las repiten incluso en el mismo campeonato de a montones (como 4 veces seguidas), y por alguna razón, la lluvia en este juego a diferencia del NFS3 hace al coche super duro de maniobrar y mas lento, pero la IA no recibe estas penalizaciones, de verdad, estas carreras llegan a ser a veces injugables a no ser que uses el Porsche 911 Turbo que tiene el mejor manejo del juego. Estas carreras desgraciadamente llegan a abundar, y arruinaron bastante mi experiencia, ya ni de hablar el campeonato final en el que tienes que hacer Snowy Ridge a 8 vueltas con nevada/lluvia, una autentica tortura. Tampoco ayuda que haya que pagar fortuna por los daños en los vehiculos. Algo que tambien hace peor para mi (pero esto ya es mas personal), es la banda sonora. La música del menu principal es excelente, acá no hay quejas, sin embargo, la música de las carreras, aparte de dejar de ser interactiva, también la siento mucho mas genérica y menos memorable que en el 3.
    No quisiera extenderme mas con los puntos negativos porque ya dije todo lo que tenia que decir. En la base este juego sorprendentemente supera al NFS3, cosa que creía imposible, incluso mejoro los gráficos, que al igual que el 3 se ven adelantados para la época! Pero los puntos negativos hacen que lo haya disfrutado mucho menos, por lo que en lugar de un 9 mejor se quedara en un 8. Entiendo perfectamente porque es el favorito de la saga de muchos, pero creo que NFS3 era un producto mucho mas simple y pulido a nivel general, con mejores controles, pistas, dificultad y presentación.    … Expand

    The game is overall good. A nice selection of cars, maps and modes. The music is engaging, I personally like the knockout mode. The graphics do the job, the lighting is pretty good for 1999. It takes a bit of work to get it to run on windows 10 but if you like classic racing games than this is a good choice

    Fourth addition to the series when Need For Speed was a rising star in racing games history. Still cannot believe it has been almost 25 years since I started playing Need For Speed games.

    While the PlayStation version gives one of the most atmospheric racing experiences, the PC version is one of the most fun games to play, even today. This is the second or third most mod able NFS game available and the community worked hard to bring cars, tracks and tools to raise the replay ability of the game to infinity, however even without any mod, this game holds very well.

    It has better graphics than the PS version;
    The handling is more like his predecessor (hot pursuit) while I like the realistic PS handling more, I know that this feature can appeal some players.
    More cars than the original PS if you include the official extra cars made by EA, however Titan and Phantom are absent, as the test drive chopper;
    More customizable HUD, sadly they are not as good as the PS version, but still work very well, you can select what you wanna see on the screen;
    Cockpit view made up here without need of cheats unlike the PS version;
    The cars have clear windows if you put the graphic settings on high (its 2023, who can't run this '99 game on high settings, right?) and you can remove the roof of some cars;
    All the tracks from hot pursuit come back on this PC version by default, what makes the career less repetitive, but harder sometimes;
    Unlike the PS version, high stakes mode is part of the career, and you can actually face rivals to get their cars (or lose yours!) pretty much like Most Wanted.
    The Hot Pursuit mode is expanded on this version, works more like the predecessor system, where you change around police cars on the track trying to arrest all the racers on a single race (the classic grab 1 racer at time from PS is also available), with that feature you can place roadblocks and spike strips easier;
    Overall the game can give a better experience than the PS1 version, however what this got in features it lacks in the atmosphere of driving a car on a city course, also the HUD and overall progression are just better on the PS1.    … Expand
